No, Roberts was the name of her stepfather. Different person.

A big-big BIG time uber-Lib.

She was a Democrat, like a lot of people who grew up in the Bronx during the Depression. Compared to her TV husband, Peter Boyle, she didn't come across as very political or outspoken, so far as I know.

Boyle was quite a character. In the '70s, he was as far left as Jane Fonda or Susan Sarandon. Wikipedia says that he started out studying for the priesthood and returned to religion after an on-set heart attack.

Robert's real-life second husband was an up-and-coming 1950s novelist, William Goyen, who never fulfilled his early potential. It sounds like he was difficult to live with.

She was amazing in her guest spot on St. Elsewhere, winning her first Emmy. That episode scores 9.0 on IMDb and also won a guest emmy for James Cocco. She may of been a huge lib, but unlike many libs in Hollywood this lady could ACT! And I loved Krebs on Steele, especially when she was faking her own IRS agent role for them.
