If there's a single issue on which the U.S. and Russia should urgently cooperate, it's Saudi Arabia.
If the Central Intelligence Agency's role is to discreetly promote the economic and political interests of the United States, then there's one country that ought to be awfully disappointing to the agency right now: Saudi Arabia. In fact, if there's an issue on which America and Russia could potentially agree, it would be the damage Saudi Arabia has recently wrought upon the national and economic security of both nations.

Both Russia and China have Sunni Muslim ethnic communities that have historically risen up in revolt every couple of generations. They are not and have never been allies of Sunni Islamism. During the Cold War the USSR and Red China did help secular/atheists from Muslim countries. The Afghan War in the 80s started when the USSR helped socialist (and anti Islamist) Afghan commie atheists take power which infuriated the religious peasant Afghans.
The Chinese do help Pakistan (just like the USA does) because the Chinese have fears of India (they fought a border war). The hope is also that Pakistan can help against the Sunni Stan's that border China. Russia, post Cold War helps Shia Muslims like Iran and Syria because Russia's problem is with Sunni Russian populations that are influenced by the Saudis. Helping Shia fight Saudi backed Sunnis is good counter action policy and also the Iranians being Shia would not be able to double cross Russia with her own Muslims (small chance Russian arms sold to Shia would end up in Sunni hands).
China’s most reliable ally is Pakistan. The Chinese and India don’t work together.

Figure out a way to get Shia Iran to fight Sunni Pakistan... then China has a dilemma.

Actually the Russians are pretty decent at honoring alliances in war time. I can only think of one time the Russians withdrew from an alliance and that was when the communists forced Russia out of WW1 in a deal with the Germans. Treaties - Russia has been known to stretch those - but treaties are not alliances.

No such promise was given, it was a memorandum between the USA and Russia which was voided when the west backed a coup in Ukraine. Also, the Ukraine and Russia were not in alliance. Again, you seem to have a problem with knowing what alliance is or means.

Just because the coup favors the west does not make it more legal. In any case the coup was funded and planned from the west and thus it voided the memorandum before Russia did anything.
