Climate Scientologists pray to Saints Lysenko, Barnum and Hubbard.

Science is as superstitious as ancient Paganism these days. The cult of scientism hides behind the notion that the scientific method is immune to corruption.

Setting the stage for that. Too big an elephant in the room to point out without setting the stage.

The concept of “peer review” as a guarantor of quality and veracity has been severely compromised. Medical journal articles are fundamentally influenced and their conclusion affected by the vested interests that advertise in the journals and fund the “research”. Academics themselves are modern day Lysenkos who grovel in politically correct pose to secure their grants and tenure. Be skeptical of “experts”.

That’s why we used to say the lab isn’t for those over 40... that and the fact you begin to lose eyesight and dexterity

Instead of waiting until someone's best years are behind her to award her academic freedom and prestige, abolish the PhD and grant fellowships to the best 22-year-olds, giving them the biggest budgets and the most freedoms for the first five or 10 years of their careers.

You then have the problem of "Who decides who the best 22-year-olds are?"

The deep, underlying problem comes from funding. As "Climate Science" has shown, the funding goes to those who tell the issuers of the funding what they want to hear.

To fix science, we need to fix how it's funded. We also need people whose primary job is to ensure the rigor of research. In the past, that was the job of the elder professors, whose reputations rode on their validation of the research performed by their proteges. There needs to be penalties for fraud, and the penalties need to also be applied to the elder scientists who had a duty to supervise.

Thanks for reminding us about the “scientific-technologic elite.” Most people only remember the “military-insustrial complex” but both bear close scrutiny.

...shift them away from research to teaching or some other harmless activity.

Good article...until I read the above. How can "teaching" be considered a "harmless activity"?

I worked in the medical community for 40+ years. I was working at a very prestigious hospital in the 80’s when a doctor doing cancer research there was found to have faked all his data. He left the prestigious hospital for lesser institution and was banned from doing research ever again. That’s it. I presume he was able to continue with a decent career. So, truth in research has been compromised for decades. Whoever funds the project WILL get the result they desire. Is there ANYTHING left the Left hasn’t politicized??

“Big Science”?

Instead of calling it Big Science, why not just call it what it is? After all, taking the long way is not something they don’t do all of the time anyway.

Excellent point. Ike warned of all the things we suffer from these days. The 1950’s were last great decade of the USA. It has been downhill since.

And it’s just a coincidence that this has taken place after the academic world was usurped and conquered by the corrupt, idiotic worldviews of the liberal left.
