It's part of a fight against the tendency for highway projects to be routed through low-income and minority neighborhoods.

So we'll route them through $750,000 McMansions. Then life will be FAIR!!

This is garbage. That’s not what’s happening here. They’re ripping apart our good neighborhoods to build more lanes and exits etc. Same in southern NJ.

is ANYTHING liberals say or do ever the truth!!!

is anything EVER JUST Obama’s sons faults, plain and simple!!!!

The only way to revitalize urban areas and close gaps in economic inequality is to remove the urban yutes and reduce the number of welfare recipients.

You can tell any state with a dim governor or metro area with a dim mayor, by how bad the streets and roads are torn up.

Hey Detroit, government meddling turned your town into a violent no-man’s land with the worst educational and water systems in the US. We have a new plan to tear up all your busy roads and streets.

You’re welcome.

projects that connect people who live in low-income and minority neighborhoods to “areas of opportunity”

I think what this political hack is trying to say is—he want to award transportation contracts to his fellow political hacks.

Yup. And we’ll. make the victims pay for their own muggings, robberies, thefts, and murders too. Gawd it’s tragic we let this band of seditious destroyers anywhere near Washington! Absolutely tragic

We don’t want them to have to walk far to shut down highways with their protests. Obesity is a major problem in the black community.

Maybe we could employ the old AEC plan to use nukes to do various engineering jobs like digging canals and the like.

Here’s an idea: how about spending highway money WHERE IT’S NEEDED, and spend welfare money on welfare projects.

As with many other things, government planning often leads to unintended consequences. In the 1950s and 1960s, freeways were built through older urban areas in order to make the downtown districts more available for commuters and shoppers. The freeways displaced many residents, many of whom moved to the suburbs. Realtors and developers found that the same roads enabled people to set up retail and business locations away from the downtown districts. The program designed to enhance accessibility to downtown helped to facilitate abandonment of the central business district.
