CHICAGO (WLS) -- A series of fast food worker protests are planned in Chicago and across the country Thursday.

Members of the "Fight for 15" movement organized the rallies. They're demanding a $15 minimum wage and union rights.

Thursday morning, protesters gathered outside a McDonald's on East 79th Street.

During the afternoon rush, groups plan to march on the Magnificent Mile. The demonstrations could flood into the street and block traffic.

Wednesday, SEIU Healthcare Illinois nursing home workers, childcare and home healthcare workers rallied and marched as part of the Fight of 15 movement, going to two nursing homes on the North Side and accusing Governor Bruce Rauner of "holding the budget hostage in an effort to drive wages and benefits down into the dirt."

Very stupid. Manufacturing is in free fall, leading to a degradation of the entire economy. Demanding that much money for the barely-literate is stupid.

If you really look at this $15.00 an hours situation, robots come to mind...car manufacturers use a lot of them, have decreased the number of human workers...they used the reasoning as: no sick days, didn’t have to cover insurance, cheaper labor...

Well now, you look at that, and most employers will shut their doors, and then no one will have a job anywhere, also, libs are famous for this crap, more RAT voters to vote...and also think about those poor illegal immigrants that won’t have to come here illegally, they can’t be ‘robots’...

While they are all together protesting, they should vote on which half of them lose their jobs if and when the increase goes through, that will save everyone time later.

“Why not just demand $100 per hour?”

Because then they would only work 1 hour a week!

Aren’t the wages much higher for “distributing” crack cocaine?

“Aren’t the wages much higher for “distributing” crack cocaine?”

well, yes, but these are not distributors, they are consumers. Big problem there. Short b-plan time though.

Buy.
Use.

If someone is 17 or 18, and flipping burgers to earn spending money or help pay for college, that’s commendable. If that same person is still flipping burgers for a living at age 40, that’s tragic. What the left is trying to do here is trap another group of people, in this case fast food workers, into a lifetime of dependency on the left for their economic survival. What the left is really trying to do here is establish fast food restaurants as modern day plantations, with fast food workers as the modern day equivalent of sharecroppers.

If you really look at this $15.00 an hours situation, robots come to mind.

Let's not forget the self checkout POS terminals in retail stores that are already becoming more common.

And here is a good example of what you are referring to:

The bank and credit union branches in the area where I live are all moving to on-line live tellers.

It's like doing your banking business at a drive up window.
You are talking to a live person but they are in a central location somewhere.

Formerly our local branch usually had 4 to 6 tellers working.
Now they have been replaced by 4 walk up kiosks with ineractive teller machines.

We have been doing business there for many years and had come to know some of the tellers quite well.

Now they are gone and we will be dealing with anonymous people behind a machine.

The Irony.

Even if these wipe-offs HAD $15.00 an hour, they would still be in Mom’s basement only to leave to protest some stupid stuff all day in the streets.

Instead of working.

That’s an excellent analysis. Provided the next job step on the ladder has not been exported by some free-trade treaty.

Idiots like this make me want to buy stock in automation companies. They are also the reason I will push my daughter as hard as I can to build a career as a roboticist.

They also kinda sorta make me wish for the world of a recent SciFi story I read (the title of which escapes me and which my google-fu has failed to turn up). Those who lose their jobs are forced out of society, sent to live in gigantic public housing developments where they are essentially warehoused until death. They are provided a minimum sustenance, and basic clothing, and nothing else. The “Hero” discovers his long-forgotten purchase of shares in a company entitle him to leave this dystopia, but most of the residents are Useless Eaters like these Chicago Protestors. I say kinda sorta because in the story, even intelligent people are not afforded the chance to retrain or find other employment; if their job disappears, they’re SOL and sent to the warehouse.
