Trump campaign manager will not be prosecuted, sources say
Politico ^

A Florida prosecutor has decided not to prosecute Donald Trump’s campaign manager for battery after a March run-in with former Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields, sources with knowledge of the situation told POLITICO.

The decision not to press charges against Corey Lewandowski is scheduled to be announced on Thursday afternoon by Palm Beach County State Attorney David Aronberg.

Fields may still pursue a defamation case against Lewandowski, a source said.

Fields filed a police report last month after Lewandowski grabbed her by the arm and moved her out of Trump’s way following a press conference at Trump National Gold Club in Jupiter. She said he left bruises on her arm. Police later charged Lewandowski with simple battery, releasing video from surveillance cameras that shows Lewandowski reaching for and grabbing Fields.

Aronberg would not comment, but in a POLITICO interview last week, he pointed out that Jupiter police had a low “probable cause” standard to cite Lewandowski for battery. But the responsibility for moving forward with a full-blown prosecution rested with Aronberg’s office, which had to consider whether a crime occurred and whether they believed a jury of Floridians would prosecute.

“We have a higher standard to go forward with a prosecution,” he said.

I’ve seen people go to jail, lose their gun rights forever, and marriages fall apart over less than what Lewandowski did

Ah but the headlines were worth so much !!!!

This poor prosecutor happens to be a Hillary! supporter in FL so everyone jumped on him from the gitgo when he said “BACK OFF!” He hadn’t even received the file much less been able to read/analyze it to determine if it was worth prosecuting. Methinks he wasn’t interested in becoming a FL Nifong.

Two questions:

Where is Michelle Fields working now?

Who wants to get within 10 feet of her?

Fields may still pursue a defamation case against Lewandowski, a source said.

And she may pursue a nobel peace prize for new discoveries in quantum physics.

But I am saying that a decision to not prosecute is NOT the same as saying he was innocent.

Is that the way our justice system is supposed to work? Being charged with something automatically implies guilt? What happened to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty?

I guess people jump to the conclusion Cruz supporters were with Fields because Cruz himself mentioned it several times as part of Trump’s supposed culture of violence.

But Ted is the one who should apologize.

"I’ve seen people go to jail, lose their gun rights forever, and marriages fall apart over less than what Lewandowski did"

I highly doubt it, if you are talking about what actually happened as opposed to what she CLAIMED.

-- ... what do you think it means when the prosecutor doesn't even believe in his case enough to prosecute it and thus drops the charge? --

In this case, the prosecutor declined to charge. There was an investigation on suspicion, and nothing more. Lewandowski was never charged, although from reading the news reports, I'll wager 90% of the public believes he was.

I think the whole thing was kind of silly, and never would have gone that far if he had just apologized.

I am dubious about the assertion that an apology would have made it go away. The only thing Corey did wrong is not realize what the hell she was talking about when the accusation was made and assert he had not touched her.

Her behavior was absurd and outrageous, and the only reason she was able to get some sympathy was that people who did not like Trump found her story of being yanked hard and "violated" fit a false narrative about violence and were anxious to jump on it. And also she is a young woman and there is a strong impulse to come to a lady's defense.

When the overhead view tape went public and people could clearly see her story of being yanked down was wrong. She suddenly stopped appearing to talk about it...and now it slips quietly away...

Yes an apology is owed, but I don't think she has the guts and integrity to give it.
