People in Germany and Italy drive +120mph every day as part of their daily commute. I don’t see the problem if the speed is safe for the conditions and the car.

I drove my first 100k miles in Germany on the autobahns. How about you? And your analogy failed and I will tell you why.

If everyone is traveling at relatively the same speed it’s not much of an issue. The problem occurs when most of the other vehicles on any given roadway are traveling at much slower speeds. That’s a recipe for death and disaster.

That’s idiotic logic.

Gezz Megan, the only thing idiotic here is your very foolish retort or comment above.

You clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

And if you don’t believe me Megan, next time you get into your vehicle, drive at 120+mph through traffic moving at about 65 or 70. Let me know how that works our for you.

I too drove in Germany the autoban was a nightmare. Cars in the right lane going very slow cars in the left lane flying.

My analogy did not fail because if we allowed higher speeds...

Once again, that's not the case is it Megan? This story here is about folks driving at 3 or 4 times the speed limit here in the USA. Btw, there are now speed limits on the autobahn too. That was my initial comment you responded to.

So your analogy failed big league. Wow...

I know exactly what I am talking about, you clearly do not. Tell you what, next time ya head to your grocery store, go ahead and drive 115 mph to the store, and then drop down to about 75mph in the parking lot. Report back.

Yes the Germans know how to drive. You figured it out.

In the U.S. ya get people driving at 55 in the #1 lane. (That’s the fast lane). Most of them do this in an attempt to meter the flow of traffic. Are you getting the picture?

And what the idiot Americans are doing at 55 in the #1 is forcing everyone else to attempt to pass them out of frustration. Do you have any idea who many collisions that causes in the U.S.?

I did that on a Honda motorcycle back in my early twenties. I still cringe just thinking about it.

Back in high school I got a ticket on MN Hwy 61 doing 90 in our Opel Manta. Luckily I had slowed down from 105 mph.

I checked the lyrics to

My Opel Manta does 1-0-5.
I lost my license....

(I did lose my license for 6 months. I was 17 at the time>)

It wasn’t just the poor that got nailed by the Vega. People were feeling the effects of the 1973 Arab Oil Embargo and were wanting to try small, high fuel mileage vehicles. A friend’s dad bought two for the family, and they were solidly middle class (Army major).

That’s one of the first years for the water cooled bikes. I was working at a Suzuki-Honda shop in high school when those came out.

Going Thursday morning to pick up my brand new BMW S1000RR.

That bike is such a hoot, after decades of BMW refusing to budge from the stodgy stuff, they pop that out.

I am too old and busted up (and busted) to consider buying such a beast, but would love to ride one once or twice. Take twice to acclimate.

My old FZR1000 used to scare me in 1st gear unless all set for it. Power wheelies when not ready can be unsettling. The BMW is far beyond that.

The new ZL1 has 640 horsepower and a top end of around 187 mph. Stock it does the quarter in under 12 seconds. Pretty nice ride. Not cheap.
