Roger Stone Warns After Wisconsin Loss: Donald Trump’s Campaign Has No Infrastructure in The States

Veteran political strategist and informal adviser for GOP frontrunner Donald Trump Roger Stone warns on Breitbart News Daily that the loss in Wisconsin should be a “wakeup call” for the Trump campaign, which he says should invest in campaign infrastructure to sew up the party’s nomination.

“It’s an early wakeup call, as it were, for the Trump campaign,” Stone, who predicted earlier that Trump would lose Wisconsin, tells Stephen K. Bannon.

Trump’s campaign has been fueled, from the beginning, with these hot button issues and an extraordinary communications-based strategy, where you utilize these huge rallies, the incredible media coverage they have generated, plus the high-profile debates, plus — give Trump credit — any interview he could do, as many interviews as he could do to reach as many voters he can reach. And that has worked. Up until now.

“The campaign has no infrastructure in the states,” he continued.

The woman who ran Wisconsin for Trump previously ran Oklahoma for Trump. Trump lost. Prior to that, she had never run any political campaign, so there was no depth of experience. This is something I see again and again, particularly at the ground roots level. Now, I salute these people for their enthusiasm, but this is a science. This is not something we guess about. And now you move to a serious of states like Colorado, Wyoming, and Arizona [which] should be watched very carefully. And those become hand-to-hand combat at state conventions or state committee meetings, where once again the Trump people have built no infrastructure.

Stone added that Trump’s current predicament reminds him of Ronald Reagan’s failed 1976 run.

Roger Stone is a legendary hatchet man and dirty trickster- truly a vile operative. This might be sour grapes since he is officially not in the Trump campaign any longer.

I admire him being self-funded. I don’t want a candidate beholden to the donor class. Having said that, I do think he needs RNC monies to win the general if he becomes the nominee. I wonder how much, if any support he can get from them, though.

Stone may have a point. He also may just be angling for a job, so this statement may be self-serving b.s..

A person would have to be stupid (not necessarily you) to believe that Cruz is part of the GPO-e.

Who said, “He’s a liar.” about McConnell? Who fought against the Iran deal (on both ends of it!), ACA, sequestration - all of these things and MORE were approved by the GOP-e - Cruz has fought them at every step.

A person would have to be stupid (not necessarily you)...

Cruz is done after New York, he will be mathematically out of the race for the first ballot, unless his whole plan is to steal the election....
**********************************************

Trump will also be mathematically out of the race when he gets to the convention with less than 1237. Cruz will win on the second ballot, and all the Trump supporters know it.
That’s why they are in a complete meltdown mode.

Goes on to say that Cruz is the most despised man in Washington inspite of him being establishment to the core.

Stone does Trump more damage than good with statements like that. He should go sell Timeshares.

Good, steal the election. See where that gets you in November

I agree that we need that kind of thinking in D.C. but if you do not get the response you need, then what is the use in spending the money. I am not looking at WI in a vacuum. I am looking at SC,AZ,TN,MA, and VA where Trump has spent money, but refuses to spend the money needed to secure the delegates he has already won.

Stone is right, but Trump is facing something no one have ever faced before, the total opposition and enmity of the party he is running to lead. He perhaps could have foreseen this coming and begun to fund his own grassroots, but an ordinary GOPe candidate would never have had to do that, so he didn't foresee the issue.

In a normal year, if a Romney, a McCain or as they expected this year, a Bush, were in the lead around mid-March, the remaining few candidates would drop out, and the GOPe candidate would coast to victory. All party resources, including those precious grass roots, would be devoted to that person. If he needs to keep delegates in Arizona in line, they've got a guy for that. If he wants the party to convince the last holdout to drop out, they've got means of persuasion. Every single party hack who has ever been on TV would be out extolling his virtues and declaring the necessity of rallying around the guy so that the evil democrats can be defeated. He would then have a triumphal convention, and all would be right with the world.

I mentioned a few months back that Trump was going to need the RNC's resources for the general election. Names of local leaders, get out the vote efforts, etc. I wasn't sure he would be able to get cooperation, since they likely want to sabotage his election, preferring Hillary, and so wondered if his money would be enough to get him through the ins and outs of the election. Well, the issue has come to the fore even sooner. He needs infrastructure from here to the convention, and to get it will cost money. He also needs to spend money on responding to relentless negative advertising. He's come this far, it is no time to cheap out.

Trump is a used car salesman who apparently doesn’t care about returning customers.
He sold America clunkers and if he doesn’t sell 1237 of them the suckers are going to return them in Cleveland.

I think it was Trump’s plan to win on the first ballot, now it seems like this is going into a contested convention, which is going to suck for whomever “wins”

Yup. Easy to talk about infrastructure when the entire Establishment apparatus, media, and unlimited money is handed to you. This system isn’t meant for outsiders, Trump is doing as well as anyone could do.

I sure as hell wish he’d spend more on ads defending himself from some of the charges that are obvious nonsense.
Instead he made a barking Hillary commercial? That was stupid.
Time to step it up Donald, it’s obviously crunch time and a strong offensive could put this away.

I think you're right.

Cruz' strategy right now is obviously to deny Trump 1237, but also to make it as close as possible going into the convention so a win on later ballots would have more legitimacy.

You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar, and Cruz seems to have figured that out. Trump hasn't, and he'd better figure that out quickly because otherwise, he's got a real good chance of losing if he's not at 1237.

Very true, but this is quickly becoming a Two dimensional race. One that Trump is very slow to run, and unwilling it seems to pay for. One dimension is to try and win enough delegates on the first ballot so that there is no subsequent ballots. The other is securing delegates so that if it goes to the second or third ballot he gets enough votes to win.

“Actually Trump does hire great people...”

HA!

It was apparent he wasn’t hiring advisors when he flubbed the “nuclear triad” question, and he confirmed it when he said he was going to “consult with himself” on foreign policy. Not only is he not hiring great advisors, he apparently isn’t hiring ANY advisors!

not kidding. More lying to yourself that Trump isn’t willing to spend enough of his own money to set up a good ground game.

Hence, the billion dollars that hits him in the generals will crush him.

He needs to say now, and I’ve seen one person say it isn’t out of the question, that he will accept donations and if a PAC wants to help him, that’s fine.

He’s not spending a billion or half a billion of his own money. No way. No how.
