God punishes the woman in his own good time.

Sickening. Go away.

I addressed this in post 23 and will not repeat it. However, until a new Supreme Court reverses Roe vs Wade or the Constitution is changed or until Congress restricts the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court, it will be difficult to change the law. Personally, I have withdrawn from micro-analyzing the specifics of politicians’ or lobbying groups positions’ on abortion. In most cases, they either don’t plan to follow their statements with action or they have no ability to impact the law. I conclude with one question. What would happen to the ability of lobbying firms (disguised as not for profits) or politicians to raise millions from us if abortion were eliminated from our nation? As in other situations, it might be informative to follow the money. Abortion is big business and so is the pro life movement.

DMZ, thank you for sharing your point of view.

Trump’s views on abortion have been consistent throughout the campaign. The persons trying to trip him up this last week were partially successful, but only if you take the comments out of context.

One of the things that I appreciate the most is that Trump is willing to share his thought process before having his backroom advisers carefully craft his words. This does sometimes create opportunities for others to manipulate what he was trying to articulate, but it is a small price to pay for the inherent honesty that we get from Trump in comparison to a typical politician. I am very tired of all the lawyer and politician speak. We have reached a point in our history where we can no longer afford to always be politically correct.

Donald Trump once again exposed the Establishment for the cowards they are. They love pounding their chests about what fiscal and social conservatives they are, but when a real nerve is exposed they run and hide every time.

Bears repeating. Trump spoke from a reasonable conclusion and shocked the "conservative" politically correct crowd. What should he have answered? No punishment if someone performs an illegal act? Just talk about the vileness of abortion? Don't take any real measures to stop it or you may be dressed down by your fellow pro-life Republicans?

"Which of his five positions on abortion is Trump right about?"

That is the power of Trump. His followers only see the position they agree with, and they filter out the rest. It does not matter that he is pro-Roe v Wade today: he can still be fantasized as pro-life.

Let us please keep this civilized and decent.

First off, I am pro-life. I’m also pro-sanity.

What Trump is guilty of, is what many of us are guilty of — with age, comes wisdom. Most of us change our views of things as we get older, becoming more conservative.

It is one thing for a man, between marriages (and sometimes not!) to be feeling his Wheaties when he is his 30’s & 40’s during his mid-life crisis. It is quite another when you are reaching almost age 60, with adult children and facing being a grandparent. And now he is a grandparent, several times over. He has a lovely family, must feel like the luckiest man alive. Who can reasonably blame him for being pro-life now?

There is no reason to believe this guy has positions based on politics. God knows that he has stepped on his own you-know-what enough times, without backing down.

I believe him, and so should you. Looks like we have a realistic grownup running.

All the best...

So it’s okay to cheat in your 30’s and 40’s but anything over that is not okay. Well the Donald was cheating on his second wife in his early 50’s with adult children and I assume facing being a grandparent.

Is it still okay?

I find it amusing that you call yourself “pro-sanity”. It is never “okay” to cheat on your spouse and it is certainly never “okay” to brag about it in a book you write. Young hornddogs just become dirty old men.

I don’t know you or your age.

Are your opinions exactly the same on every issue since you were a teenager? People change their mind on issues as they get older and gain wisdom. You might want to try this sometime.

When I was younger, I was “pro-choice” but am now pro-life.

You wanna pick a fight about this, I’m going to give you about a 20 hour or so headstart. Because I have to go to bed, given my graveyard work shift in the Mountain Time Zone.

You go for it, sparky. Make the case for everyone having feet of clay in their beliefs over the course of a human life.

I’ll check back tomorrow to see your pearls of wisdom.

Of course it’s not okay.

But if I had a nickel for every person that abandoned their moral underpinnings in a time of weakness, I’d be posting from a hammock in the South Pacific.

“I find it amusing that you call yourself “pro-sanity”. It is never “okay” to cheat on your spouse and it is certainly never “okay” to brag about it in a book you write. Young hornddogs just become dirty old men.”

I’m going to save that post in case events of the next few weeks force a review of your piety.

:)

I will only assert that you can’t take the position that the mother in an illegal abortion should have no legal consequences and still claim to be a strong rule of law advocate.

It depends on what law is written, and who is the object of a penalty. Would have been nice to have been heard 'the current system of killing a child for, well, whatever reason, is a very terrible system of justice.'

Agreed that laws can be written in a number of ways. However, we don’t see other instances where it takes two parties (joint perpetrators) for a crime to take place in which only one party is subject to legal consequences. The penalties for the two parties may be significantly different, but I would like to see more than trivial examples where the principle is that one joint perpetrator of an illegal act is by law completely free of legal consequence. As you know, under current law there is no consequence for either party so long as one party is a licensed MD and no state laws with respect to medical safety or stage of development of the child are breached. Remember that Trump’s response was a hypothetical answer to a hypothetical proposition that might not have a chance of becoming real in our lifetimes.

I think he needs to get someone that will practice these gotcha questions.

Republican candidates are going to get these questions simply because they are Republicans. He has lots of interview experience, but most of these were business interviews or Hollywood type interview. Generally they do not ask gotcha questions in those.

Yes, and we have distorted values that seduces the unaware youth into their situation. Can you imagine how many women there must be who had an abortion because they thought their career came first? Later they were passed over for a promotion because the boss found a younger one.

I have witnessed employment situations where women (of any marital status or parent status, childless or not) were passed over for promotion/raises in favor of younger men who were married and just starting families.

Before we as a society discuss punishing women for abortion we need to go back to the sexual revolution and remind women that sexual intercourse outside of marriage is bad for them in every way.

This is a laudable goal. It will be difficult to change the culture; it's been at least 60 years' worth of damage (if you count when The Pill was made available to married women, or more than that if you count when diaphragms were first invented, was that the 1920's?).

While we're on the subject, what sort of incentives are being offered for men to save sex for marriage and starting a family?

I agree we are reaching a new stage in the primary. He is going to have to act more like a traditional candidate.

Thank you very much for your kind and possibly undeserved comments. I am definitely more guilty of getting carried away than many people here. I have to remind myself frequently that we are all on the same side and the real goal is to defeat Hillary and the Democrats regardless of who eventually gets to be the nominee. If we manage to somehow hold both houses of congress and get a Republican president it will be an historic opportunity.

I will be happy if we get a president who makes good Supreme Court nominations, doesn’t veto important legislation, is a good commander and chief and helps rebuild our image in the world. Both Cruz and Trump should be capable of that. I would be even happier if the person we nominate does a hard reverse on the direction that both parties are currently headed.

Agreed. It won't be the last one he faces, and he just has to watch his assumptions. We have complained for years that R's have to answer these unfair questions. DT has handled many of those questions better than most. Not this one...

Very rare around here these days!
