United States of Torture: When it comes to “enhanced interrogation,”...
SALON ^ | April 1, 2015 | ELIAS ISQUITH

As far as we know — which often isn’t much when issues of national security are involved — the U.S. government stopped waterboarding suspected terrorists around 10 years ago.

And as the current administration is quick to remind people, one of the first things Barack Obama did after being sworn in as president was issue an executive order banning so-called enhanced interrogation techniques.

Well, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos online poll, the American people aren’t so sure:

Nearly two-thirds of Americans believe torture can be justified to extract information from suspected terrorists, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, a level of support similar to that seen in countries like Nigeria where militant attacks are common

“In his post about the poll for New York Magazine’s website, Charley Lanyon jokes that one explanation for the size of the pro-torture contingent may be that “we’ve just watched too many episodes of ’24.’” He’s referring, of course, to the seminal Fox show, created by a self-described “right-wing nut job,” in which Kiefer Sutherland saves the world — usually after torturing some bad guys along the way.”

They could send them to NY for interrogation.

One Luca Brasi story in The Godfather book would work wonders in getting people to talk.

Salon, of course, is worried that a Muslim might lose a fingernail or be kept up past his bedtime.

I believe that using cruel and unusual methods to punish people for crimes is an abhorrent idea.

But as far as interrogation of unlawful comatants is concerned, I think absolutely anything goes.

I don’t care what means we use if the terrorist aren’t upholding their end of the Geneva convention.

With Salon protesting torture, it’s a matter of professional courtesy. The traitors at Salon are protecting their Nazi mooslem brothers.

I'm sure Americans would support other enhanced interrogation techniques, but waterboarding is at least as bad pledging your average college fraternity, and we can't do anything as mean as that to genocidal muslims...

So, rather than pouring all that water on them, we could switch to kinder, gentler methods where no real physical discomfort is suffered by the poor terrorists... er..."victims".

I'm thinking, you just put them in a cage, and have the interrogator simply walk up to the cage with a gas can and a Zippo lighter, and give them one more opportunity to talk.

It's worth a try.

I know of one technique that used to work wonders.

Find a picture of a terrorist wanted by the Israelis which matches the person you are talking to, walk into the room with the wanted poster, drop it on the table, and then state that the Israelis think he is their man, and will be picking you up in two hours.

Then walk out. Time and imagination will work wonders.

Although the left would like you to think so, the Geneva conventions do not apply to ‘unlawful combatants’.

Agree. But if any combatants don’t play by the rules, we should take it to another level.

Waterboarding is NOT “Torture”, as there is no bodily damage or injury.

As proof, our military officers undergo waterboarding as part of their combat training.

We understand that the folks at Salon faint at the sight of Chalk Talk regarding Trump, but that doesn’t make it “torture”.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, I invite you to read the 1950 commentary on the Geneva Conventions, paying particular attention to Common Article 3, of which the President's Executive Order uses baseline for our interrogation policy. It is located on the International Red Cross webpage, easy to get to. Look at the rationale and original intent.

There is no way ISIS, AQ, Taliban, or any other Muslim extremist could have possibly met the standard for the most basic protections. In fact, the rhetorical question asked was (I'm paraphrasing), "What belligerent would reject the accepted norms of warfare and the protections being provided (in this document)?

In other words, an outlaw, brigand, bandit, or any other party that has no interest in respecting the norms of warfare, are not eligible for any protection offered by the Geneva Conventions (all four of them), or any other international law or accepted norm of warfare.

Quite simply the writers did not envision Muslim terrorist, even after facing the evil manifestation of Japan's militaristic application of Shintoism. If you really feel freaky, copy/past into a letter to your elected official, and to either the Trump/Cruz campaign.

Can anyone name a conflict since 1947 where our soldiers were protected under the Geneva Conventions?

Anyone?

Buehler?

I trust what the Israelis do - because for them it is life or death - if it does not work they would not use it.

‘Losing’, as per a pull, I’d have issues with (what’s next bamboo under?). Sleep deprivation, fake drowning and the like? Have at it, boys.

Put ‘em down for good. They talk, it’s quick and painless. They don’t, you queue up the pork fat/blood feeding tube THEN off ‘em; but you make DAMN sure they know what’s going down.

Then, you let every ~500th low-level free to tell his friends.
