The Carrier workers have also discovered that other jobs in Indianapolis do not pay as well. The new Amazon plant only pays $15 an hour instead of the usual $20 at Carrier. Carol Bigbee, 59, earned $22 an hour.

“I think it will be extremely hard to find a job that pays $22 an hour,” she said. “You have to be really blessed to find a job that pays that kind of money.”

Gee, those evil Americans were making $22.00/hour. The horror.

Always gets me how Carrier has their name on this,

and it has no air conditioning.

Doesn’t matter if the company moved to where they have “work councils”.

Yes, they were a union shop.

Plus, the company cites “new regulatory requirements”, i.e. government regulations.

Plus, I’m sure they loved the labor cost savings.

AND, when they come to Mexico, workers gladly work bunches, and bunches of hours, and no sexual harrasment law suits, or need to build bathrrooms for trannys and put in sex less day care for children, as well as Gluten Free, Tobacco Free, noise pollution free zones. People are GLAD to get a job.

The correct date of the article is March 19th. Not all buggy whip manufacturing left America on March 30th, the day we’re having so much fun.

To me this is the unfortunate side of the Trump campaign. He has wrongly directly GOP voter ire from government regulation regulating jobs out of existence in the US to trade. People freely buying and selling does not cost jobs, government regulation of business does. But Trump in some ways seems the crony capitalist and they love and seek protection.

When asked the CEO of Carrier could not come up with any regulations or taxes that spurred their move to Mexico.

I am still waiting for the announcement from Carrier Corp of across the board price reductions due to lowered labor casts. Still waiting to hear form Nabisco too.

Syracuse never recovered from Carrier leaving there.

That’s wrong. Trump indeed has spoken about overregulation of industry. He speaks of trade but he has also spoken about too many rules and regulations. He has spoken about both issues.

It usually matters if it was unionized. However, I read an article, and it interviewed the mexicans who were being employed — their wage 1.75 an hour (starting wage is actually 1.25$ an hour). So, how can even a minimum wage US employee compete with that?

NAFTA. TPP.

This is why I left the Cruz camp (I have given him money over the years many times) and went to Trump.

Why would they reduce prices, why not reap higher profit?
(Assuming their prices are competitive currently)

The Carrier workers were unionized.

And what kind of politicians did the union support with its members'dues? What kind of politicians did the union recommend that its members vote for? What kind of policies did the union support? Did the union support anything that would help Carrier?

Do I even need to ask?

Exactly! The US consumer sees no benefit at all from off shoring and so called free trade. Thank you, I couldn't have said it better!

If you were right, they would have gone to Peru rather than Mexico. But alas Trump has deflected concern from government regulation.
