If such a fracture of the encryption could occur once, it could happen again, which puts Apple right back in the same box they were before.

Obstructionists extraordinary, but now with vulnerabilities. Scruples and principles be damned.

Apple deserves this. They deserve the humiliation of having their supposedly unbreakable system beaten in just a week.

They made it into a pissing contest, and now Apple has lost even more than they would have had they simply helped as they had done all those many times before.

Not surprising at all. The feds must have this capability and maybe they are pretending that they don’t.

I probably do most of them without knowing.

it would be a GREAT book.

it seems to me that required passwords for CCs that can be as simple as (your first name)1234 is pointless.

i guess it’s not.

Yup. Exactly. And all network devices; not just smart phones.

Modems, routers/gateways, servers, computer operating systems, etc.

I’m betting they just remember the password they changed it to.

This was yet another play to scare the public into giving up their rights.

I disagree. Apple was given a court order. Last I checked, that complies with the fourth amendment.

Apple then launched a very deceitful fear mongering campaign, relying on lazy people not to bother checking on Apple's made up claims.

A lot of people bought the crap that Apple was selling, and so once more, propaganda defeated truth.

And now Apple's system has been broken anyways, and Apple stands humiliated.

Access to the physical phone is hopefully different from the data that has run through it to the cloud or where ever.

That’s the ticket, announce it to the world, so any of the killers buddies who were in touch via his iPhone can do more to cover their tracks. This isn’t about cracking an iPhone, and it never has been. It’s been about the FBI’s craven desire to have a back door into Apple’s products. Glad we’re good customers since the days of the Macintosh Plus.

“then breaking the encryption “

Encryption was not the issue.

They only needed to bypass the automatic erase after 10 guesses with the four digit pin.

One thing that can be learned from this, is that false flags (NOT saying this was one) in the future will be used for more than just gun confiscation/conrol.

What if NSA cracked the code last year and identified terrorist targets for wet work and monitoring last year within days after the terrorist attack at San Bernardino. Then, let MI5, DGESEF and the CIA wet work experts to handle those terrorists.

NSA

MI5

DGSE

CIA

“Foxnews announced FBI has broken into San Bernadino terrorist phone without aid from apple.”

And we believe this because the Fibber Bureau of Instigation never lies? Get real! “Let’s give up and say we did it. Yeah, that’s what we’ll do!”

That would be stupid of them. Maybe they didn’t find anything useful on the phone. Or maybe they have already made arrests.
