The first rule of the GOP convention is that there are no rules
The Washington Examiner ^ | 3/22/16 | By Timothy P. Carney

It was a blatant mockery of democracy.

On the floor of the 2012 Republican National Convention, a handful of delegates had compiled the necessary signatures to propose an amendment to the rules package passed out of the Rules Committee. Those rules took power away from state parties and disenfranchised delegates for Ron Paul.

So it’s perfectly constitutional for a state not to have an election for President, but rather have the electors chosen by the state legislature.

"So it’s perfectly constitutional for a state not to have an election for President, but rather have the electors chosen by the state legislature."

With all due respect quietly desperate, the Constitution clearly says nothing about the states having a popular vote for a president. I think that you may be overlooking the federal government’s constitutionally limited powers.

Again, one of the very few constitutionally authorized domestic federal spending programs that probably most citizens regularly use is the US Mail Service. And I would guess that ordinary citizens would lose interest in the POTUS if having problems with the US Mail Service was the main thing that they might discuss with the president.

Other things that citizens might discuss with the POTUS are trade issues, treaties and military issues.

Note that the only federal entity that the Founding States gave ordinary citizens the power to vote for is members of the House of Representatives (HoR), not federal senators, the POTUS or Supreme Court justices. This is because the HoR is the only federal entity the Founding States authoritized to initiate tax appropriations bills (1.7.1).

The Crony Capitalists will pullout every stop necessary to ensure their continued flow of cash and power.

Abe Lincoln was their opening “American” salvo unto all those who would dare oppose their agenda, thirst for power, prestige, and wealth.

The Judaeo/Christian world is under attack.
The money changers are in control.
Europe is lost.
America is in ICU with little prospect of survival; little to none.

This is why I am supporting and voting for Trump rather than for Cruz (my first choice). Cruz cannot win on the first ballot, and I want the stronger of the two candidates to have as many delegates as possible to (1) ensure a first ballot win, and (2) have a buffer in case the shenanigans encourage some delegates to defect even on the first ballot.

Yes, there will be repercussions for nominee Kasich/Jeb/Christie/Whatever if the establishment cheats (again). However, that just means President Hillary will drive the final stake through the heart of freedom or take the final action that triggers what is at least currently an avoidable second Civil War. I’d rather just see if President Trump can roll back the losses freedom has sustained over the past two generations and especially during these eight terrible years.

I am not a Ron Paul fan. Far from it. I am glad Ron Paul was stopped in 2012.

The reason I posted was because it appears that many Republicans in power are pushing for a brokered convention.

The First Rule of GOP Club, is that you don’t talk about GOP Club.

So what? Any one who supports anyone but Trump is pushing for a brokered convention. I don’t consider Cruz, even though, he’s pushing for a brokered convention, exactly part of the establishment GOP.

The Paulettes were trying to steal the convention in 2012. A lot of the same guys are now lined up behind Trump.

“The stupid party could see hundreds of people vote Republican in the Fall.”

Trump, the opportunist, said if he were to run for President he’d run as a Republican because they’re stupid.

Every convention is entitled to its own rules. The 2012 rules are in effect until a majority of the convention accepts or rejects them, same as always.

A majority of convention delegates are necessary to change the rules to allow a new GOP-E candidate. The same majority that would be necessary to select the nominee.

Seems to me that objections raised have nothing to do with Establishment cheating, but rather are panic at the thought so few like-minded people participate or even have knowledge of their own state’s delegates.

I wasn’t criticizing the constitution. There could be benefits to not having popular vote for president. People would pay more attention to state elections if they knew it would affect who becomes President.

"I wasn’t criticizing the constitution."

Thanks for clarification.

Are you aware that one of the main reasons that the Founding States established the federal Senate was so that the Senate would kill House bills that stole 10th Amendment-protected state powers and state revenues?

The problem is that the ill-conceived 17th Amendment destroyed that firewall, state lawmakers unthinkingly giving up their voices in Congress by ratifying that amendment.

In other words, corrupt senators elected by low-information citizens now help the House to pass unconstitutional bills.

Otherwise, regarding the federal government’s very limited power to serve the people, the states reserving uniquely to themselves the lion’s share of government power to serve the people, it’s almost as if the Founding States had expected ordinary citizens to have to guess who the current president is.

You sound like you want a brokered convention. Who do you want them to choose?

“Every convention is entitled to its own rules. The 2012 rules are in effect until a majority of the convention accepts or rejects them, same as always.”

The 2012 convention passed rule 40 (b) as a temporary rule applicable only to 2012. In order for 40 (b) to apply to the 2016 convention, the 2016 convention would have to pass it again. As it now stands, Rule 40 (b) doesn’t apply and if there is a conspiracy to deny some one something, that conspiracy began in 2012.

I only have one criteria for the republican nominee, some one who can beat Hillary. I would much prefer Cruz or Trump choosing supreme court justices than Clinton.

The selection process should follow the rules. First candidate to 1237 wins.
