I’ll give you two answers, one theological, one practical:

Theological

Jewish people are designed by G-d to be religious, and more specifically, Jewish. If they are not practicing Judaism, they replace that innate nature to worship G-d with the worship of something else.

Practical:

Due to European laws forbidding land ownership by Jews, Jewish people became historically involved in urban industries — from blacksmith to sailor to tinker to tailors. They accordingly settled in the port cities in the USA north east, now New York, etc. And like all north eastern urban people, they are overwhelmingly liberals.

The innate desire to fix the world, but also the desire to take an easier path than actual Judaism.

If he is an atheist, then he does not participate in the Jewish faith. He is, as I've heard other Jews describe, a "Cultural Jew".

Cultural Jews who are anti-Israel should be described by some other term (or terms) that strictly do not include the word Jew.

Honestly, Obama is either a muslim or a man with no real faith. I'm not sure which it is (though I have my suspicions) but now days it's quite easy to imagine someone being in the white house who doesn't fall back on prayer.

Truthfully, I think Hillary is full of it when she talks about being religious. But then she lies about everything so that makes sense.

I thought this was kind of interesting and either fun or pathetic depending on your sense of humor.
We all know that Bernie spent his second honeymoon in the Soviet Union but it looks like he might have spent his first honeymoon on political tour as well.
The point is that leftists live and breath politics and their religion is big government.

Bernie's a secularist. I don't think being Jewish is a part of his persona, but he hasn't denied it. The question of whether he's proud strikes me as inappropriate, it's not part Bernie as he presents himself to the country.
