Trump and his staff have told some individuals -- including potential donors -- that as soon as the billionaire businessman secures the nomination, he will pivot and begin fundraising for a general election fight, the source said.

In the event that he wins, Trump will have to quickly scale up his campaign -- particularly if he's competing nationwide against Hillary Clinton's behemoth political organization. In private conversations, Trump and his aides have acknowledged that the Republican Party will need to be well-funded for the general election, and that Trump will work with the party to ensure that's the case.

Wasn’t one of the arguments for supporting Trump was that he wasn’t beholden to big money contributors?

This exchange of words will not work unless both of us have cogent responses.

One of us is not even on the same page...and since you replied to me, guess who it is..

Is your moniker Yiddish for “grandfather?”

Sort of. It's what I called my grandfather growing up, which was a bastardized pronunciation of the Yiddish word.

He said this in the very beginning. He is funding the primary run then when he gets the nomination he’ll change to party funding

Every nominee gets funding from the party. No reason for Trump to turn it down.

Sure there is!! Mr. Trump has rightly declared that he is entirely self-funded!! This is his major appeal!! He CANNOT be bought, like those "politicians"!! Are you insinuating that Mr. Trump would suddenly change course and begin to accept money from the Establishment, from the GOP-e?? How dare you!! You are implying that Mr. Trump is a HYPOCRITE and a LIAR!! You must be a paid Cruz troll!! Mr. Trump tells it like it is!! Mr. Trump will accept NO money from anyone else!! He will not be bought!!

“for Pete’s sake” it throws DT’s entire appeal of not being bought or owned by special interests or GOPe out the window. Not that I ever believed that cause he’s always been owned & corrupt.

But think as your told

It’s going to cost a billion dollars to run in the general election. Trump’s gotten a lot of free media because the liberal media want the conservatives caricatured with an anile and irascible 70 year old white coot with no control over his mouth. There never was anyway he’d fund himself. He’s conned people on that one, too.

Don’t be obtuse. Every Republican that runs in the presidential general election as the Republican candidate is financially supported by the RNC. They all get it and its expected that the candidate will use it. I didnt diss Romney for it and neither did you.

I guess Don is going to have to fleece more people to get the cash needed to self-fund his campaign, plus lawyering up to defend himself in the fraud case he says he'll be involved in for the next several years. So what can he do? Well, let's see. Hire more foreign workers for his hotels, so he doesn't have to pay Americans. Maybe move his clothing line from factories in Mexico and China to some sweatshops in Sri Lanka or Zimbabwe, where they'll work for less. Open more Trump University franchises, to reel in more suck students. Build more casinos, to take in more money from people with gambling addictions. Line up advertisers for a new reality show, "Who Wants to Be a Vice-President?" Yes, the possibilities are endless!

But Mr. Trump is different!! He’s entirely self-funded!! Will not be bought, will not be owned!! To change that once he gets the nomination would DESTROY everything he’s been saying on this!!

“No reason for Trump to turn it down”. Except then he’d be an insider, bought by the “GOPE” that you all claim to hate.

“Do his arguments apply equally to the primary and the general? Of course.”

Even more so. Because in general GOPe itself will be funding him. BEHOLDEN

Any candidate IS potentially for sale and to think otherwise is dangerously naive.

That’s why character and principles matter. Cruz has both in abundance; DT has a long history of having neither. Cruz has always resisted being bought (ethanol just latest example); DT has long history of Crony Capitalism buying & being bought.
