Last night's speech by Cruz proved he is no change agent. - VANITY
Me

Posted on 03/02/2016 7:55:01 AM PST by HamiltonJay

I have offered my analysis of this race here, as I see it for a while now... My analysis for quite some time has been this thing is Trump's to lose.

In spite of this, I have never been someone who hated Cruz, on most of his policy stands I agree with him. However, when analyzing him overall I have felt that he cannot effect major change, because despite what he says, he is taking money from the same folks who have been screwing over this country to pad their pockets as the rest of the establishment... I have also believed, and still do, that Cruz is a weak general election candidate, who would win already red states by larger margins, but generally lose swing states because he preaches to the choir not the general electorate, and he is probably the easiest candidate for Hillary to paint as the Boogieman.

My latter opinion remains my opinion, the prior though last night Cruz showed, unequivocally, to be fact.

Last nights speech Cruz delivered the establishment message, 100%. Hillary Clinton was not the enemy, Donald Trump is. He went on to attack Trump and preach that he must be stopped at all costs. That's the establishments argument, that's not putting America first, that's putting the establishment first. With that speech, with every bitter and spiteful sentence that came out of his mouth Cruz showed he is the establishment. He is not an agent of change.

I ask those that support Cruz to go listen and watch that speech, the words from Cruz's mouth through that entire speech could just as easily been coming from Rubio, McConnell, Hatch or Karl Rove. Close your eyes and listen.. he literally delivered the establishment line hook line and sinker.

For those of you backing Cruz, because you honestly believe he will and can be an effective agent of change against the establishment, just go listen to the speech, close your eyes and tell me that you can't see any or all of the names I have just mentioned delivering the exact same message.

Last night Cruz lost all integrity on any claim to not being the establishment and able to fight and effect change. He has now laid bare he is with them, 100%.

Trump is not the enemy, Hillary is.

Cruz may be self serving, who in politics isn’t at some point? Realism dictates he has to take on his chief opponent who is clearly Trump. His talking points will sound like McConnell and Co. because they are the sorts of things one can say in 15 seconds. Many individuals here are small ‘c’ conservatives who hate the electronic medias impact on discourse. It is what it is. We are not going to get the ‘Lincoln-Douglass Debates’ because no one would listen more than a couple per cent of the voters. So even intellectuals such as Cruz are reduced to sounding like Chevy Chase rather than Hamilton or Jefferson (TJ actually hated speaking. He was a poor and hesitant orator).

The issue isn’t that Cruz attacked Trump, the issue is Cruz has made a pillar of his campaign, from the very beginning I can and will fight the establishment. Yet last night he literally had a moment in the sun to grasp, he won 3 states, 2 more than anyone was really thinking he would win, and what did he do?

He literally delivered verbatim the establishment line, 100%. This isn’t that he attacked Trump, its that he undermined his own work, claims and public persona. He’s the conservative who can fight the establishment, then he went out and delivered the establishments message 100%. He completely has lost all credibility when he claims he isn’t part of the establishment now.

It was almost as bad as Rubio’s self inflicted gunshot wound to the head debating Christie.

Cruz didn’t lose integrity in my mind because he attacked Trump, he lost it because for months he’s been out on the road claiming he is the guy who can fight the establishment... and what does he then do? Deliver verbatim the establishments message. Any claim from this point forward he can fight the establishment is completely empty.

This is the sort of brainless comment that confirms my earlier post on this thread.

I’m aware of the conditions that dictate the nature of contemporary discourse.

Cruz still could’ve said something more substantive and spoke to a positive vision, rather than the shrill tantrum he threw last night. He was entirely undignified.

So according to you, anyone who goes after Trump is delivering the establishment message? I respectfully disagree.

“It was a sad commentary that his victory speech mentioned Trump more than it did himself or his supporters.”

True enough and says a lot about the man.

I thought it was a fairly clever barb. Gotta give them credit for using the word ‘corpuscles’.

I haven’t heard the speech yet but I have one question...

Was he attacking Trump from the left or the right?

Was he saying that Trump was “too extreme” or “too religious” or “too conservative”?

If he is warning his supporters and the American people that Trump, who is a hair away from being our nominee, is supports liberal positions and is too far to the left to represent our party....then I see nothing wrong.

“Trump destroys the conservative movement with his election.”

The Bush family and Filegate have already destroyed the conservative movement. What Trump would do is burn out the neocon hive, which is an improvement in this wasteland.

Since there are no coincidences in politics I would imagine Cruz had several substantive remarks speeches drawn up but he and his tacticians believe that the only way to dent the Trump juggernaut is to go trash talk sound bite speak.

I think Cruz absolutely wasted a moment. He had a moment in the sun, he won 3 states, he had a chance to speak unfiltered to an audience... and then he went on and delivered what was effectively the establishments message 100% verbatim.

Attacking your opponent at that time I think was tactically a generally bad move, however that’s not what caused me to decide Ted lost credibility.

Why Ted lost credibility to me, was simply he has spent the entire campaign arguing I’m the real conservative and I’ll fight the establishment...then he just completely parroted the entire establishment message 100% verbatim regarding Trump..... That speech completely undermined any claim going forward that he can and will fight the establishment.

As I have said, I don’t hate Cruz, but I really really think he majorly damaged himself last night. Those that support him because they are looking to fight the establishment, and yes, that’s at least some of his supporters, are going to rethink their support after that speech.

I think it was an avoidable self inflicted wound. I really have to wonder who’s giving him advice.

I completely agree. I watched his speech because I was glad that he won Texas and Oklahoma. I was glad that he and Trump practically ran the table (with Trump doing most of the lifting) because they are the two candidates best able to stand for change to the status quo.

But then that speech took a dark turn. No talk about Obama. No talk about Clinton. No talk about the washington cartel. Just non-stop we must stop Trump or we are doomed. Non-stop half lies. Non-stop don't give a crap about Trump supporters because gee if you support Trump you're a piece of crap like him.

Disgusting. I turned it off. Never again.

When you say it’s ‘at least’ a 9th grade vocab word, you’re implying that it might be a higher level too.

Tradition says you forgo politic on election nights

Oh boy...A Drumph supporter who is concerned with "tradition"

Is it tradition for a candidate to make fun of the appearance of other candidates or women?

Is it tradition for candidates to publicly swear and call people names?

Is it tradition to threaten to sue other candidates when you don't like their campaign commercials?

The feeling I got was that Cruz knows that the nomination will almost certainly go to Trump. Cruz was simply doing the bidding for the GOPe and poisoning the well of his supporters in an ongoing attempt to keep them from supporting Trump in the general election. No matter how much some want to believe that Cruz is an outsider, he is still a career politician that is funded by the exact same groups that fund all of them (both parties). Cruz had his marching orders and he faithfully worked as directed.
