Leopards Can't Change Their Spots… But They Can Change Tactics

In the closing weeks of the 1980 presidential campaign, it would have been hard to find anyone more vocally critical of Ronald Reagan than AFL-CIO President Lane Kirkland. As a surrogate for President Jimmy Carter, Kirkland attacked Reagan as "displaying colossal ignorance" in his criticism of the President's plan to create a nation Industrial Development Authority that would have allowed labor more liberal access to its members' pension funds.

Thirty-five years later, labor has gotten smarter. Infiltration has replaced the frontal attack. Unless, you want to believe that Donald Trump and current AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka really are collaborating.

In the decades since the frontal assault, the AFL-CIO has learned that the direct approach is not always in its best interest. One of its more effective tools has been forming groups like the Economic Policy Institute (EPI), chaired by Trumka and with a board of activist Democrats like liberal hero Ray Marshall, President Carter's labor secretary, and Robert Reich from the Clinton Administration, now Professor of Public Policy at the University of California at Berkley.

Instead of attacking the Republican front runner, they have embraced him. Trump's own policy papers cite Professors Ronil Hira and Hal Salzman, from the EPI staff. Both have a long and checkered history not only for liberal activism, but for fabricating the facts. After Hira's testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee last year on the high tech industry's labor policies, the independent, Information Technology & Innovation Foundation analyzed Hira's remarks and found piles of errors.

But The Donald is not one to let conservative thought get in the way. In his position papers on his campaign website, Trump uses Hira and Salzman's testimony and research (prepared and paid for by the AFL-CIO) to make his arguments against their being a shortage of high tech graduates from U.S. colleges. There is no shortage, "We graduate two times more Americans with STEM degrees each year than find STEM jobs, Trump proclaims. Well, like the AFL-CIO, The Donald has a problem with the facts.

Trump believes the AFL-CIO rhetoric that a shortage in IT graduates is a myth. Despite the fact that recent college graduates with IT degrees can command starting salaries around $90,000 per year and, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and unemployment rate of 1.5% for database technicians or 1.7% for Information Security analysts - Trump sees no shortage.

Why is Trump blind to the shortage? Why would he collaborate with the AFLI-CIO. Well, motives are hard to determine in Trumpland. The AFL-CIO's motives are fairly clear, they want to fewer college-graduated IT professionals and more lower skilled IT workers in the high tech industry. They would prefer that companies push work from college level professional staff to the trades that the Communications Workers of America and AFL-CIO represent. In the IT workplace whether a college graduate or a union members designs the network architecture could be the next hot topic of debate in the battle against unions.

The most likely answer to The Donald's blindness to the shortage and collaboration with the AFL-CIO propagandists is that without principals the answers to complex questions are often hard to find. Hira and Salzman had a rolling bandwagon and The Donald climbed on board.

Maybe that is part of the explanation for my former fire department colleague’s nearly universal support for Donald Trump. There will be full scale revolt if Fire and Police Unions try to shove Hillary down the membership’s throat after she has been out on the trail pandering to Black Lives Mater with posters portraying Trayvon as a cute pre-teen.

Right that why Disney fired its IT staff and required them to train their low wage Visa replacements. Because there is a SHORTAGE!

Robespierre, Napoleon, Hilter, Mussolini, Stalin, Obama ...

All Ego-maniac power hungry, deceptive, populist, lying (both sides of the argument) ... riding a wave of angry voters.

Is this America's Donald Trump in 2016 ?

As a FreeRepublic (Class of 1998) patriot, who's posted many times applauding Donald Trump's ideas and courage ...

I continue to be "incrementally" dismayed at Donald Trump's demeanor and apparent personal immaturity.

How about You ?

How are we supposed to support a candidate who has a "Howard Dean Moment" once a week ?

Will a Donald Trump "better deal at this time (2017-2018)" cancel-out "The Mexico Wall" ?

Frankly, it would be GREAT if Donald Trump could "morph" into the "more civilized" candidate that he's promised to at some point.

Finally, let's consider General George S. Patton Jr. for a moment.

Patton was a fierce warrior against the Nazis.

That was good.

Kinda like Donald Trump regarding The Mexico Wall, halting Islamic Visas temporarily, ending Sanctuary Cities, rebuilding the military, and several other points.

But General Patton voiced his genuine respect to German General Erin Rommel.

"Rommel, You magnificent bastard -- I read your book !"

Does Donald Trump ever do that ? "No" or very rarely.

No ... Donald Trump rarely behaves like Gen. George Washington.

Indeed ... Donald Trump perfectly mimics the "Do ANYTHING to ACHIEVE Power and Wealth" like the 1880 American "Robber Barrons".

Ouch !

Kinda like the GOPe "bastards" who screwed Chris McDaniels in Mississippi in 2014.

Kinda like Hitler's Nazi Brownshirts who viciously attacked ANY and ALL who dared voice ANY criticism or dissent against their DEAR LEADER.

It's estimated that almost four-million Conservative Americans REFUSED in 2012 to vote for Mitt Romney ... considering Mitt a galaxy-class @sss-hole.

I personally held my nose and voted for Romney anyway.

But 4,000,000 America Conservatives told Mitt Romneny to GO TO HELL.

Donald "Scorched Earth Victory at any Price" Trump risks the same fate.

The painful TRUTH is Donald Trump has become an @sshole.

Kinda like a nausetating version of New York's Chuck Schummer.

This is such a Shakespearean tragedy in light of Donald Trump's great ideas (see above list).

These words will "certainly" represent a moment of "cognitive dissonance" for many Donald Trump supporters at FreeRepublic.

Film at Eleven.

When you find a candidate that can change the political landscape the way Trump has by doing things the same way as everyone else: you let me know.
