"We're not living in the Middle Ages," Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin said Friday as he called for national gun control legislation.

"My view on gun legislation is this: You will not solve this problem state by state. You need a 50-state solution, and we better come up with one fast," Shumlin said last week at Politico's Sixth Annual State Solutions Conference [1] at the Microsoft Innovation and Policy Center in Washington, D.C.

Shumlin pushed for a "50-state solution" despite coming from a rural state where guns are commonly used for hunting.

YES! One state’s CC permit should be as valid as as a Driver License is in any other state!

The constitution provides a way to get a fifty state solution. Get both houses of congress to propose, by a two thirds vote, an amendment banning guns then get the legislatures of three-quarters of the states to ratify that amendment.

Of course, that will never, ever, ever happen, any more than an amendment would have ever been approved mandating abortion on demand, same-sex marriage, and a host of other bizarre things our robed tyrants have discovered emanating from the penumbra of the constitution. So the anti-democratic left will continue to pass unconstitutional laws, and judges appointed by democrats will continue to demonstrate that they believe their lifetime sinecure gives them the power to decide that the words of the constitution mean whatever they want them to mean.

Then they will get their way, and gun possession will be effectively banned. At that point, the People will have to demonstrate the real purpose of the second amendment.

Got it on the fourth post, good work.

We’ve had a 50 state solution since Day ONE!

I agree. We need all 50 states to start aggressively enforcing the 2nd amendment. Gun control is a tight group on your target.

What does Baltimore, Detroit, DC, Chicago and others have that Vermont does not?

Significant amounts of "minorities".

Here’s irony. You need a CCP in Vermont. Vermont has the best gun laws in the nation. Very few.

Err, I meant to say: You DON’T need a permit in VT.

Because, even now after decades of liberal invasion from NY and Mass., the people of Vermont won’t go for it. Shumlin need the feds to come in and override the will of the people of his state.

"We're not living in the Middle Ages," Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin said Friday as he called for national gun control legislation.

No, indeed we're not. Here, and for the past 240 years, Americans have enjoyed equal rights, including the right to defend one's self. In the Middle Ages, only knights and the King's soldiers had the right and the means to do so. Now, thanks to the Founding Fathers and Samuel Colt, Americans are equal...such that a 4'10" lady weighing less than 100 pounds can defend herself well against a guy who is 6'6" tall and weighing 250 pounds, even if he has a sword. That's how far we've come, guv. So, I agree, we need national legislation, because not all state laws are the same. As such, I propose the repeal of the '34 NFA, the '68 GCA, the '86 FOPA, and any other legislation or regulations that infringe upon the 2nd Amendment...together with a finding by the Congress that any state or local laws that infringe upon the effectiveness of the militia (which is the WHOLE body of the People) should be null and void as being in contradiction of federal laws aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the militia. That, of course, is what you had in mind...right, guv?

If ‘gun control’ is so high on his list why not take the initiative and be the example. I think VT should get rid of that nasty Consitutional carry in favor of a highly restrictive system. Then they could be a test case the gun control mob could point to as a big success...or not.

Actually we have state constitutional carry. Open and concealed, that’s what he’s pissed about. There’s not a damn thing the progs in this state can do about it, they’ve tried but have been thwarted because it requires a state constitutional amendment and they know it won’t happen. Thank god this a$$hat is gone come January. I’ve had my fill of him, he was my state senator for years.

Already have it. It’s call the Second Amendment.

I have a better idea: How about a 50 state criminal control!

What the Guv actually means is that gun control doesn't stand a chance passed by state so he wants the federal government to do his job for him and pre-empt everyone else. But he doesn't want to try for a Constitutional Amendment for the same reason - that has to be ratified state by state.

What he actually does want is for the federal government to find a way to pass gun control without going through Congress, the states, or the Supreme Court. I'm afraid that's going to cause a bit of a fuss...

We don’t have a gun problem. We have a Black Thug problem.

We need to start addressing the problem; not the tool used.

Yeah great idea...fire on Federal troops; what could possibly go wrong...?

Send Federal troops to our homes to confiscate guns, and YOU WILL SEE what goes wrong! There will be dead Federal troops, and dead citizens, and guarantee they will run out of Federal troops to throw at us before we run out of armed citizens.
