US Senate leader McConnell says wait on replacing Scalia
Reuters via The Jerusalem Post ^ | February 14, 2016

Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on Saturday that the next US president should be the one to nominate a justice to fill the vacancy left on the Supreme Court by the death of Antonin Scalia.

"The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court justice. Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president," McConnell said in a statement.

The nomination will never get out of committee, much less to the full Senate, if one is made this year.

We all know how this ends: McConnell caves.

This is what will happen: Obama and the Democrats will, along with the media, begin a full-blown nuclear-scale political blitz to get a vote on a nominee, fully aware that complete authoritarian, dictatorial, god-like control of everything and everyone in the U.S. in within their 5-4 Court majority grasp.

The Chamber of Commerce will step in behind-the-scenes on the GOP side and offer a compromise via proxies - A Socially liberal, Lefty cultural fascist Judge who is a bit Libertarian toward business. The Democrats are happy, the Chamber is happy, so as far as our rulers in Washington are concerned, everyone is happy.

The GOP will claim they have no choice but to offer the vote, and that if people don’t like it, the “real verdict” can be cast in November (I.E. People can punish the Democrats for their appointee by electing Republicans). Will full control over the process, McConnell will claim impotence; in their arrogance, the GOP will assume Conservative voters will come out in droves to punish the Democrats for the takeover.

The Senate will allow a vote, and Obama will get to appoint the Justice that gives the Democrats the 5-4 Court Majority that will make the entire rest of our Democratic Republic completely pointless.

I pray to God I am wrong, but I really think it will happen somewhat along theses lines.

I have an idea...

Instead of confirming Obama's nominee, maybe the Senate should give the President confirmation power subject to a Senate vote to reject the nominee afterwards?

That scheme worked so well twice before, I'm surprised that McConnell didn't lead with it.

Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president," McConnell said...

Sounds squishy.

"Should not"? Really? He should have used the word "Won't".

Also, not a good sign that he speaks in the 3rd person. He is not using the first-person "I Won't Confirm a...", but the softer "A confirm should not happen", as if he is some bystander to the process.

not Politics playing Ted Cruz.

You really don't have a clue...politics playing Ted Cruz will be the one leading the fight. Just as he has since he's been there.

It’s unlikely we win the White House but lose the Senate majority. Can’t rule it out, but it’s unlikely.

Time for these jerks to prove their worth.

I believe, theoretically, that Obama could appoint a vacancy SC justice during a Senate recess. The appointment would stand until the end of the current Senate. He has shown before that he is willing to make moves like this. Nothing these people do surprises me anymore.

Somewhere there must be a black female lesbian Muslim lawyer looking for a job.
Obama will nominate her and call the GOP racist sexist homophobic islamaphobic bigots for not confirming her.

Jan isn’t a recess, it’s an adjournment. I think there’s a difference.

His use of the word ‘should’ gives him away.
What ‘should’ have and what ‘must’ or ‘will’ happen is two different things.

More weasel words from the top weasel. They’ll screw this up, I’m more fearful than ever.

How is it that with a government designed with THREE branches, we end up on the edge of our seat over what ONE guy ultimately decides?
