Ted Cruz leads a prayer with 14,000 cheering evangelicals in S.C.

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Many of the Republican presidential candidates descended Friday on Greenville ahead of Saturday's CBS debate.

But only one was savvy enough to get himself enlisted as the opening act of a throbbing, trembling Christian rock concert that packed 14,000 evangelicals into a downtown arena on Friday night.

So here came Ted Cruz, striding onto the catwalk of a stage, beaming under the spotlight, leading the crowd in prayer, asking them to unite behind him in next Saturday's primary election, and jumping up like a basketball player high-fiving fans as he walked into the locker rooms in the bowels of the arena.

"Welcome to Winter Jam -- and to God be the glory," the Texas senator said.

Winter Jam is a touring, four-hour show featuring born-again Christian rock and rap artists. It performed at Greenville's Bon Secours Wellness Arena on Friday night.

For any Republican politician, this was a captive and prized audience. Evangelical Christians are an especially influential voting block in South Carolina, especially in the Greenville area, known as the Upcountry.

Cruz gave about six minutes of remarks and prayer at the start of the concert. He thanked the crowd "for standing unapologetically with Jesus, for confessing your faith with love."

Cruz talked about religious liberty being "under assault," but said that across the country "people are waking up."

"Our nation was founded on Judeo-Christian values," Cruz said. "Those values of life and marriage are under assault, religious liberty is under assault, and yet the American people are rising up."

Cruz did not attack any rivals, nor did he make an overt political pitch. But he cast himself as a champion of social conservative principles,

I know this would be way over the top but Trump could have her on stage and ask “Where are your accusers?”

She replies “They have gone.”

Then Trump says “Then neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more. And remember, not voting for me would be a sin.”

A little late night humor before I go to bed.

A heart that misses the deeper part of Christian values is pretty shallow.

She was offered a role, not to speak as herself. Let the world titter about porn star, porn star, so what.

Here’s where Cruz could have been gracious. This would have spoken volumes... of goodness. It would have drained off a lot of the negative energy that has been surrounding him.

"Vermin Supreme" (Old Boothead) - Demonic-rat presidential
candidate who finished fourth (!) in the 2016 NH primary.

(Story link here)
(With that strong losing finish, is this the Demonic-rat Party's version of Ted Cruz?)

I would consider it scant comfort to be right about conservatives fleeing away from the process, still going on, of compiling a TRUMP agenda.

I agree. And that’s the first thing I thought of. The woman has broken no laws. I haven’t seen any of her films but I doubt she posed in any way less bawdy that Megyn Kelley. As far as I’m concerned Cruz passed judgment on her and I doubt he’s seen her films either. This will hurt him.

I’m not sure I understand you. Are you saying that if we vote for a leader based on our Christian values we shouldn’t be voting? Or are you saying that if we only want to vote for a President that has strong Christian values that we aren’t focusing on Christ we are focusing on Caesar?

“Ted Cruz leads a prayer with 14,000 cheering evangelicals in S.C.”

I was going to congratulate him on a crowd as big as Trump’s then I see they weren’t there to see him. Never let a concert go to waste.

What do they mean by soft porn anyhow. Basically, sex-appeal ads? She models for Victoria’s Secret in a PG-13 manner?

Sometimes prudism can go into the ridiculous. Christians ain’t supposed to be out of control, madly lusting Muslim animals. They can embrace a context when seeing things like negligees.

When he plays the game of donating to all sides after he is elected are you going to be happy with that?

He can do anything he wants with his money, but He will be more involved with "Making America Great Again"! I doubt he has any interest in giving to anyone not wanting to advance that goal. I doubt that he will contribute anything politically! He is above all, a pragmatist*.

But you can say anything about him. He will prove to you that we made a good decision when he is our next President. Teddy Bare would be too busy arguing with his side!

*To describe a person or a solution that takes a realistic approach, consider the adjective pragmatic. The four-year-old who wants a unicorn for her birthday isn't being very pragmatic.

The opposite of idealistic is pragmatic, a word that describes a philosophy of "doing what works best." From Greek pragma "deed," the word has historically described philosophers and politicians who were concerned more with real-world application of ideas than with abstract notions. A pragmatic person is sensible, grounded, and practical - and doesn't expect a birthday celebration filled with magical creatures. ...

If you're pragmatic, you're practical. You're living in the real world, wearing comfortable shoes. If you're dogmatic, you follow the rules. You're living in the world you want, and acting a little stuck up about it.

Pragmatic people have their feet on the ground and their heads there, too. No time for dreaming! They're realistic. A pragmatic approach to something is the sensible one. A pragmaticway to fix a bike is to use the tools you have rather than the ones you wish you had.

I’d say we should be careful whether we are voting for a pastor or a manager.

‘Trump supporters are selling Conservatism down the drain.’

Got it backwards. People support Trump bc career politicians sold conservatism down the drain.
