Cops cites preacher for 'offending' student

An Orwellian nightmare became a reality for an evangelical preacher this week when a cop near the University of Texas at Austin issued him a “disorderly conduct” citation for “offending” a student.

An intern with Campus Ministry USA was confronted by multiple police officers on Tuesday and informed he would be written up for offending a student. Video of the incident soon went viral on YouTube.

“We had somebody that was offended by the gestures you were making,” the officer said. “And that’s our job – to make sure that doesn’t happen, because these are students just walking in this mall right here. So the job here is to write you up as a citation, disorderly conduct, for offending someone.”

............... Campus Ministry USA told the website that a call to the police station from their legal representation resulted in an apology and the withdrawal of the citation.

So that means that, when those duties and civil rights coincide, you are required to relinquish the rights? Including the fact that empowering the state in this manner imperils other’s free exercise?

I completely disagree.

You are required before God to sacrifice small things in order to gain larger.

You are permitted the option of retaining the small things, however you will have no cause to complain before Him later of the lack of harvest.

It’s up to you. Pay your money, take your choice.

Christians are not required to be doormats.

I’m not sure you meant your post to be judgmental, but it sure read that way.

If the shoe fits, wear it. If it doesn’t do not.

I followed the story in the lede article and it seemed a feeble thing to defend. This was not the aggressive gospel preaching of campus ministry legacy. This was a talk about venereal disease.

If being a mat made it possible for someone to walk into the door of the kingdom, YEAH I would be a door mat! This is the position of Jesus.

Thank you for the clarification that you are trying to militantly upbraid me for not being meek enough.

Apply the bible to your circumstances. If they don’t match up, try to adjust. Progress is the key, not perfection.

Being meek isn’t being weak. It’s like the Clydesdale horses who pulled the Budweiser wagon (sadly they are no longer in this service, but they were awesome to see). You needed the huge horses to pull that weight, but they did not dash forward recklessly, they pulled slowly and steadily as the wagon gained momentum. This is meekness.

So when the islamist rapefugees are violating your kids or grandkids you’ll tell them to turn the other cheek then.

Right?

Or as some preachers put it, power under control.

I believe the Pirelli brand of racing tires has a slogan: Power is nothing without control.

Forego a small gain in order to obtain a larger one. I see this principle quite possibly being violated in the example and in the chafing I see in the conversation here.

When it comes to an extreme like this, I probably won’t compare it to talking about venereal disease in graphic terms, when you could have talked directly about Jesus.

So, wrong. I thought you could come up with better things than this pitiful strawman.
