Russia warns of 'new world war' starting in Syria
The Telegraph ^ | 11 Feb 2016 | Richard Spencer

Foreign and defence ministers of the leading international states are meeting in Munich and Brussels following the collapse of the latest round of peace talks

Russia warned of “a new world war" starting in Syria on Thursday after a dramatic day in which Gulf states threatened to send in ground forces.

Foreign and defence ministers of the leading international states backing different factions in the war-torn country met in separate meetings in Munich and Brussels following the collapse of the latest round of peace talks.

Both Russia and the United States demanded ceasefires in the long-running civil war so that the fight could be concentrated against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) - but each on their own, conflicting terms.

Sudden Massive Snap Exercise and Mobilization of Russian Forces in Black Sea and Caspian Region Appears Aimed at Turkey

Pavel Felgenhauer

The present snap exercise strongly resembles a massive combat prewar troop deployment aimed to take on Turkey if it attempts to intervene in Syria to curtail the Russian-led offensive in Aleppo, Idlib and Latakia provinces, which is decimating the Syrian opposition. The Russian military deployment must deter both Turkey and NATO, ideally splitting the Alliance. If deterrence fails, the deployed troops will likely be ready to go into action.

Russia has waded deep into the political swamp. The fundamental truth is that the Sykes-Picot Treaty continues to unravel. Religious, political and tribal differences going back to pre WWI are re asserting themselves and Russia is stuck in the middle of this mess. Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, and Morrocco are worth working with. The rest not.

According to this so called treaty looks like Russia will NOT be bombing ISIS - what the treaty does (the cease-fire bit is just for looks) is divide Syria into sectors of control - Russia has the west and the US has the east including Raqqa the ISIS capital; so 0bama’s palls will go on breathing and plotting.

“Assad had done absolutely NOTHING to this country.”

Except killing and maiming thousands of US service members in Iraq. Assad supported ‘ISIS’ nee Al-Qaeda-In-Iraq from 2003 thru 2011 and provided a safe haven from US forces. Where do you think the ‘foreign fighters’ in Fallujah crossed into Iraq from? And where did they retreat to after the battles?

‘ISIS’ simply turned on Assad after he tried kicking them out.

Don’t be an ignorant asshat.

It should be US and China and Russia vs radical Islam.
Instead, the idiots in the White House want us to see Russia as an enemy, while Islam spreads further.

I admit there are just too many players and potential motives. And with Putin we have found out he plays his cards really close, doesn’t show nothing til the last moment, but when he goes in he has a sound strategy.

So for all that, I would prefer to see no US military lives involved until Obama is out of office. I would like to see all US personnel out of Afghanistan because I have no idea what their mission is there.

There have been enough US lives wasted in the ME and I don’t see any benefits to it at this point. Thing about wars, the families of those killed, wounded/maimed or mentally messed up can feel the hurtful affects for generations.

Had some cool and awesome uncles that went to Vietnam...came back ended up being alcoholics...was very very sad for all

That is not true. I am really stunned at your ignorance. But if you want to live in a made up fantasy world, you just continue to do that, Senator Graham. Assad supports Shiites— always has always will. You are so wrong. ( why did ISIS attack his sovereign country?)

That is such a wonderful analyses of the Axis you nominate so well. I do not mean, in any way, to say you are not correct. I actually adopt that entire analyses and in particular the egregious unprovoked attack on a sovereign country in absolute and undeniable violation of international law yielding the destabilization of a huge region all the way down into Africa. What was done was done. We cannot dwell on the past.
For shock value, I will tell you that I don’t give a crap about what they do in the middle east. I want them stopped from Trojan horse entry into my beloved country. I want to rediscover and repair our rusting Nuclear arsenal and delivery systems. I want only legal immigration and the removal of illegal aliens either through their inability to make a living here or their actual transportation out. I assure you that CAN be done— It was done in 1952.
Then, I realize that sovereign nations will do thing we do. I assume that not only North Korea will emerge with a nuclear capability, I assume Iran will too , like the Chinese, the Russians, the French, The English, The Pakistanis. The Indians etc etc. I don’t care what they do beyond one small caveat.
Russians in the old Soviet Union did not want to die. The unaltered brain will run from death. They has 5000 war heads (mirvs) pointed at us for 20 years. It was not out of morality or altruism they did not pull the trigger. It was the absolute assurance that they would in fact be obliterated. That is our defense, not telling people what they can and cannot do when we ourselves do the same thingand are weak as cat feces.

Saudi Arabian war abilities. And that is why my son and several thousand others were in SA 6 or 7 days after Sadam Hussein invaded Kuwait in August 1990. Without even time to phone home and say goodbye. I had hoped that the nearly universal threat from terrorist Islam would help bring Russia, US, EU, and China together to cooperate. Could the Russian “snap exercise” be staged to look like a southern move, but in fact be preparation for a lightening move west on Ukraine, like the Crimean move?

Russia’s role since intervening in Syria in late September 2015 has been to bolster the regime of Bashar al-Assad and a primary tactic in that overarching strategic aim has been the attempt to destroy all opposition to Assad that the international community could possibly deal with, and to create a binary situation where there is only the regime and jihadi-Salafist terrorists, primarily the Islamic State (IS), and secondarily—in areas where they do not threaten key regime interests—Jabhat an-Nusra (al-Qaeda). Moscow will eventually turn on IS, but in the short-term Russia has engaged in indirect coordination with IS to weaken the rebels and push them out of key strategic areas, notably in eastern Aleppo where Russia bombed rebels out of the way who had been holding IS out for years.

Possibly, and the Saudis are pumping hot air in the Northern Thunder drill:

There will be 21 Arab and Muslim countries taking part in huge drills,” Assiri told London-based newspaper Al Sharq Al Awsat. “It will serve to boost fighting capabilities, exchange information, benefit from experiences and expertise and enhance coordination between the participating countries. There will be joint military command centres,” he said.

Assiri added that “when participating countries feel that there are coordinated and interdependent efforts, the results of the exercise will be positive. We have models based on real experience of being in the Arab coalition in Yemen where operations are running excellently and positively,” he was quoted by the daily as saying.

Is this an indication that Russia is planning something against Turkey:

Patriarch Kirill also said that the preparation process was continued in preparatory commissions and at the 4th Pan-Orthodox Pre-Council Conference in 2009. “In March 2014, I took part in the Meeting of the Primates of Local Orthodox Churches which took place in Istanbul. It made the decision to convene a Pan-Orthodox Council in 2016, “if unforeseen circumstances do not prevent it,” His Holiness noted.

Hitler invaded Poland in SEP 1939 when he realized Germany’s financial mess was only getting worse, with or w/o war.

The Russian economy is in Deep S-t:

A former deputy chairman of the Russian Central Bank has said Russia’s economic crisis is worse than Moscow admits and that the Kremlin’s optimism about future prospects “has not been based on reality.

Aleksashenko said the real problems facing Russia’s economy are a lack of investment, high inflation, and the declining ruble, which has lost half of its value against the U.S. dollar since early 2014.

Further, he said, the bulk of Russian exports - as much as 80 percent - consists of raw materials and commodities.

But the economic slowdown in China has eased the global demand for such products.

"Kasparov: Putin's Goal in Syria Is Chaos"

Same thing apparently for Europe...

From Aug 23, 2015:

"a recent investigation conducted by Novaya Gazeta, one of the few independent newspapers left in Russia, complicates this cozy tale of counterterrorist cooperation. Based on extensive fieldwork in one village in the North Caucasus, reporter Elena Milashina has concluded that the "Russian special services have controlled" the flow of jihadists into Syria, where they have lately joined up not only with ISIS but other radical Islamist factions.

In other words, Russian officials are adding to the ranks of terrorists which the Russian government has deemed a collective threat to the security and longevity of its dictatorial ally on the Mediterranean, Bashar al-Assad."

Czech Defense Minister: "Russia is Orchestrating Muslim Invasion of Europe"

Posted By: TRT NEWS October 31, 2015

Prague, Czech Republic - Russia is orchestrating, coordinating, and funding the ongoing invasion of European countries by Muslim, military-age males, the Czech Defense Minister shared with IDNES.cz on October 10th, 2015.

According to Martin Stropnicky, the Defense Minister for the Czech Republic, he was informed by the Hungarian Defense Minister Istvan Simicsko that Russia was financing the busing of military-age Islamic males across the borders of the Balkan nations.

-snip-

Speculation has been rife for some time now that Russian forces have been plotting a ground invasion to retake the former satellite states of the Soviet Union, and eventually capturing the European capitals.

The overwhelming of these nations' borders, social services, and law enforcement mechanisms would destabilize and weaken the internal security controls when Russian military units would make their move.

"The Russian Federation does not desire a unified and cohesive European Union," Stropnicky said in the interview. "I do not envision the current invasion ceasing anytime soon."

As the Russian Federation has modernized its military forces and transformed its military theory to a hybrid combination of special forces, infantry, and airpower, it has made impressive advances in its latest generation tank and fighter jet, both of which purportedly claim to be superior to American counterparts. ..."

Understanding Provocation [Provokatsiya]

March 29, 2014

One of the most powerful tools the Kremlin has in its secret arsenal of Special War is provocation, what they call provokatsiya.

While Moscow cannot claim to have invented this technique, which has existed as long as there have been secret services, there's no doubt that Russians have perfected the art and taken it to a whole new level of sophistication and deviousness. At times, it can become a strategy all on its own (not always, mind you, with edifying results).

Provokatsiya simply means taking control of your enemies in secret and encouraging them to do things that discredit them and help you. You plant your own agents provocateurs and flip legitimate activists [in this case, dupe actual Jihadis -ETL], turning them to your side.

When you're dealing with extremists to start with, getting them to do crazy, self-defeating things isn't often difficult. In some cases, you simply create extremists and terrorists where they don't exist. This is causing problems in order to solve them, and since the Tsarist period, Russian intelligence has been known to do just that.

While this isn't a particularly nice technique, it works surprisingly well, particularly if you don't care about bloody and messy consequences. ..."

In other words, it's like starting a fire, or pouring gasoline on a fire, in order to be the 'big hero', being first on the scene to put it out. Except in this case, you get to grab control over the buildings and town you helped 'saved' from the fire you helped to start.
