How Donald Trump broke all the rules — and won anyway

the losers now?

Trump crushed the rest of the Republican field in New Hampshire. He received more than double the support of the second-place finisher, John Kasich. Exit polling showed that in fact there are multiple "lanes" in the Republican nominating contest. Moderates preferred Kasich to Ted Cruz. And very conservative voters preferred Cruz to Kasich. But both sets of voters preferred Trump to either of those men, and by significant margins. In other words, Donald Trump was ahead in every lane. There was no room left on the highway in New Hampshire.

Perhaps the most telling piece of journalism about Trump's campaign in New Hampshire was written by Byron York in January. York talked to the major Republicans in the state and… they didn't know any Trump supporters:

Most of the politicos in Nashua didn't deny that the polls are what they are. They just explained that they haven't personally encountered evidence that the Trump-dominated polls are accurate.

"I don't see it," said one very well-connected state Republican. "I don't feel it. I don't hear it, and I spend part of every day with Republican voters." [Washington Examiner]

The Republican Party has no idea who Trump supporters might be. That may be why the Trump rebellion exists in the first place. Like Pat Buchanan in 1996, Donald Trump's populist, blue-collar-focused campaign carried the Granite State.

Trump is not my first choice (like 40% of FR, I prefer Cruz, with Trump as #2), but it is quite possible that he will surprise me and be exactly what our country needs. The establishment has no idea what productive Americans want from government, and it’s not more free stuff or lawless Amnesty as a reward for criminals.

The question, to me, isn’t so much that Trump broke the rules. It is “Who made the rules in the first place?”

Just say it is not so. Cruz is the only "true conservative." Rush said so, and Rush is "an honorable man. So are they all, all honorable men." [Shakespeare, Julius Caesar].

If the reaction to Trump supporters here on FR is any kind of a sample of what it’s like on the outside, no wonder people don’t wear Trump stickers on their sleeve.

What are you going to believe, the vote or your own lying eyes? When are the GOPeers going to wake up and realize that they have been "schlonged."

You should see it in DC. Not only are they Trump deniers, but they are Bernie deniers. They are totally in the bag for the bag.

How Donald Trump broke all the rules, and won anyway.

So Trump and his voters won and broke the rules of the conservative plantation masters by voting for Trump!

It is wonderful to see a long standing corrupt political system disintegrating right before our eyes. A system that hates Americans, rewards illegals and those who bring them into America to freeload.

We are seeing a paradigm shift with us selecting our Presidential Candidate instead of the GOPe and DEMe elites who hate us, selecting our candidates.

There is a Black Swan event occurring with the daily suicidal self wrought destruction of the GOPe, Open Border Thugs, DC faux pundits, Faux News, ABCNNBCBS and the left wing fish wraps. Something similar is happening with the DEMes.

Many of us are looking forward to seeing the broken bones, drying blood and entrails of the Lying GOP Open Borders Elite, their DC faux conservative pundits, their mediots, their phoney pollers and focus groups, their hired tv and radio hacks strewn across the primary states as much as our victories in those states.

We have escaped from their faux conservative plantations, and we are not going back for more lies, abuse and mistreatment from our former GOPe masters.

Almost everywhere I go when I mention Cruz to someone they chuckle and change the subject with some distaste. I’m not trying to be a d_ck, just saying what I observe - and I talk to a lot of diverse people.

And that includes my church congregation I might add.

The media has done a very effective job of marginalizing Cruz except for those who truly believe him, and in him. That is also why I feel that his chances at winning the general would be almost nonexistent.

Then the ads (his own ads) merely reinforce people’s notions of Ted. The revival tent preacher telling you that you’re going to burn in hell routine might fly in some places, but not many.

The only place I find real support is here.

JMHO.

Over the last several decades a pseudo-elite have arisen in American society, and they have had a very big hand in contributing to a very large number of people feeling alienated, voiceless, diminished, and hopeless. They are ‘pseudo’ elite because they don't ‘do’ anything. They don't cure disease. They don't create new ways of thinking. They don't find avenues with which to join the unjoined and mend wounds. But they have managed to elevate themselves to positions in society that allow them to think highly of themselves. And that is what matters most to many of them.

Trump has resonated because he has the ability and willingness to destroy the illusion of superiority these people have flourished under. That doesn't make him the ‘best’ candidate for the presidency, but he does deserve credit for being willing and capable of diminishing the self-appointed political elite. It is highly unlikely, after this election, that politicians, and the people whose careers and stature derive from them (and from politics in general) will ever be viewed the same. This election has exposed the illusion. It is somewhat ironic that a man who is routinely criticized for his oversized ego has had such a huge role in diminishing elitism in our political system.

You are not wrong. The average republican voter is not going to go for Cruz. He’s too conservative and for some reason they just don’t find him likeable. I personally think he’s likeable just not able to win a general election and IMO not as qualified as Trump.

No stickers or FB posting about Trump here. Half of my circle is shockingly pro Bernie, even some who opposed Obozo. The other half doesn’t seem to know who to support, but demonize Trump relentlessly.

It’s just one observation, and I expect it can change over time as the myths about Trump fade as more start to see him as presidential. [Optimism on my part]

I am remaining quiet about who I support while observing to see where the tide turns to as fewer choices are available.

I myself worry about the popularity of Bernie way more than I do about the current negativity about Trump.

I've gotten a couple of puzzled looks too.

Some chuckle about Trump, but they also say he's really shaking things up and they don't seem to dismiss him..

Among my family, we'll all pretty much Cruz, but we're all enjoying having Trump in the race.

That's just an observation from my neck of the cornfield.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Lobbying Efforts 2014/2015:

Maintain Obamacare without repeal or adjustment.
Promotion of federal Common Core education standards.
Comprehensive immigration reform to include amnesty.
Trans-Pacific Trade Deal Approval.

We stated if Republicans (McConnell) won control of the Senate, he would find a legislative trick to pass the Trans-Pacific Trade Deal. He did, he used a maneuver to stop conservatives from blocking it; and Marco Rubio (Team Jeb) delivered the final vote needed to give Obama authority to pass TPT with a simple majority. 70% of the electorate oppose it. Again, he doesn’t care.

McConnell also used legislative tricks to pass/authorize the Iran Deal by manipulating the legislation (Cardin/Corker) amendment.

The Iran ‘agreement’, reportedly and conveniently not considered a ‘treaty’, again we are not blind.

Nor are we blind to Republican Bob Corker’s amendment (Corker/Cardin Amendment) changing ratification to a 67-vote-threshold for denial, as opposed to a customary 67 vote threshold for passage. A profound difference.

This is what the United States Chamber of Commerce; the GOPe; and the RNC and Wall Street want done, and it’s doing it...

Trump is smashing their ‘wants’ and standing up for the American People and America...

The rest of the candidates are ‘owned’ by Special Groups; Super Packs; Wall Street, the GOPe, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, that’s why they don’t want Trump in the White House, their gravy train will stop....

The question, to me, isn’t so much that Trump broke the rules. It is “Who made the rules in the first place?”

One path to success, is being able to see which "rules", which of the "things everybody knows", just aren't so.

I believe Trump will do one thing above all others, he will destroy the GOPe, sadly he will also destroy conservatism and possibly the Tea Party. If Trump is the nominee, I fully expect that he will win with the irrational anger vote, and immediately start making deals with his only real friends the politicians he has bought over the years, like Pelosi, Reed and many NY dems who are his closest payed for friends.
