INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Feb. 10, 2016) – Carrier plans to relocate its Indianapolis operations to Mexico over the next three years, a move that will affect about 1,400 jobs.

Jobs will begin transitioning to Monterrey, Mexico, in 2017, with completion estimated in 2019. The company manufactures heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems at its plant located on West Morris Street.

Copper...hell I can tell you during the maquilla era in Mexico even cardboard shipping boxes had to be kept under lock-and-key. They were not “boxes” to the indigenous populace, they were “building materials”.

2000 people with no jobs, nobody to speak for them, no political representation. This has been going on for so long its a crying shame. International corporations acting like NGOs making decisions that affect countries and sovereignty and not a peep from anyone. The founders created sates that were for all intents and proposes little countries. There are 50 of them now but Carrier HAD to move to narco state to stay in business? Right....

TPP hasn’t been voted on, yet.

Maybe the fix is in.

A better solution would be to eliminate the crushing regulations and fees and taxes that make it unprofitable to do business in the US.

Ironically if George H.W. Bush had been re-elected in ‘92 NAFTA would have been a dead-letter. The Democrats would have voted against it, just out of spite.

And that's how capitalism works

Fair enough. But tariffs are an example of how politics work. Capitalism does not operate in a political vacuum, it is laughable but the Free Traitors™ think.

want/need to make more = greed.

Which is good as long as you keep it inside the guard rails. You go across borders then I get to have a say, like every other American. Unfettered trade inside CONUS is great. Outside, not so much at all.

Yup. Big companies who don’t like The Donald are just cementing his election with moves like this.

How are you going to do that? The president has no control over how expensive it is to build in Mexico.

Then why are so many illegal construction workers still here? I don’t ask to be a smart a&& truly want to know. It’s hard to compete with them when they don’t have the same overhead (insurance, taxes, workers comp etc.) I sell my work on quality and that keeps it moving forward but I still feel the pain. Meantime each year the red tape gets thicker and more expensive too. A lot of that red tape was supposed to correct the damage done to construction workers but due to select application of it only hurts me and those like me more. I get the general feeling democrits truly want to destroy small business and republitwits are foaming at the mouth to gobble up small business and replace us with illegal minimum wage labor. This is my sole attraction to Trump btw.

The tariff can be justified by pollution and labor wage discrepancies. I’m just a small town pizza lawyer but free trade should be between level economies with similar environmental rules or not at all.

When we hit 75% not in the workforce no one will anyway plus a lot more trouble. And if what you say is true why are they still here and we can afford it today? Expecting thoughtful and informative reply.
