GOP focus group describes Donald Trump as 'inevitable'

They like and are planning to vote for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas). But most Republicans surveyed in a new focus group in South Carolina, the next state to vote in the GOP primary race, saw a Trump victory in the state as "inevitable." The focus group, conducted by Bloomberg Politics and the firm Purple Strategies, gave evidence of some of Trump's potential weaknesses in Southern states. The nominating contest will shift heavily there in the coming weeks, with South Carolina voting February 20 and many of the so-called SEC primary states voting March 1.

The voters in the focus group shared concerns about Trump's religiosity and his supposed crassness.

None of the 10 voters who participated believed Trump to be a religious person. Most raised their hands when Bloomberg's Mark Halperin asked whether they were troubled by that.

Halperin then played clips in which Trump used or mimicked profanity in numerous stump speeches. One woman buried her face in her hands.

"It's crass," she said. "It's not how you want your president to present" himself, she said.

Trump was not pleased that Halperin showed the group one example in which he mouthed the profanity:

.@MarkHalperin showed a focus group on @Morning_Joe me using a very bad word. I never said the word, left an open blank. Please apologize!

-- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 11, 2016

Still, while all but one voter picked Cruz over Trump for their personal votes, the vast majority expected Trump to come out on top in next week's South Carolina primary.

It occurred to me that “Conservative Media” serves the same purpose “Civil Right” leaders do for the Democrats. Their sole purpose in life is to keep a certain group of voters quietly on the GOP Establishment plantation.

Adding a little reality to a phrase can help get the reality across.

Poor lil Trumpie, his childish BS is biting him in the @ss.

His NYC ‘values’ wasn’t as big of a hit as he thought it would be.

A focus group, by definition, is focused on a certain position. They all meet the same selection criteria.

The way he fights the media and stands up for himself against some really despicable people is telling. I really hope he pulls through, because that is exactly what it is going to take to get things done.<<<
Yup...even if the things he gets done advance the liberal agenda...

I love the mindless idiocy of the “Conservative Media Establishment”. They all worship this myth that Reagan went to DC, took off his coat, and proceeded to kick everyone’s butt.

No, the real Reagan went to DC, and cut deals with a Democrat Congress to get what he wanted done and the “Conservative Media Establishment” of the time all when into hysteric about “Reagan betraying the Conservative base”.

If Cruz wins, he will go to DC and do exactly what Trump would do and the “Conservative Media Establishment” will go into hysterics about it just like they did with Reagan.

And that position has different takes. Those takes represent differing opinions. To make it applicable to a state you need a legitimate random sampling of the state. In SC, to reach 5% MOE, I’d guess you’d need a minimum of about 250 in your random sample.

Excellent Johnnie:

It occurred to me that Conservative Media serves the same purpose Civil Right leaders do for the Democrats.

Their sole purpose in life is to keep a certain group of voters quietly on the GOP Establishment plantation.

For decades we have listened to these bsers and stayed on the GOPe plantation. No longer!

It wasn’t a true focus group... it was a group of citizens who were shown some anti-Trump films then bullied into conforming to a position.

Mark Halprin needs to leave ‘focus groups’ to the professionals.

No Republican is inevitable so long as the Democrats can play the “forgive all student loans” card.

Right, a focus group of Cruz supporters and they all know Trump will win.

That’s just Trump being Trump. Bold, brash, crude, crass. Its all good and all Trump. Won’t hurt his numbers one bit. It’ll actually boost his support.

Yes, too small a sample size results in bias.

The problem for the anti-Trump effort is that in NH Trump won all groupings that are traditionally used to find out what a population is thinking. This will be repeated in the upcoming states until Trump’s opponents succeed in phrasing their answers better then the Donald. This may not be possible.

As to the crassness, a lot of us take this as showing how silly the movement to Political Correctness has been. Trump can cut it out the same as anyone else when he wants. Right now, it is not a stretch to say that Trump is using this as a way to reach the voter for whom a little crassness is not a factor. (The non-proper, non-elitist, hell someone like me)
