Bernie Sanders’ campaign has finally threatened Hillary Clinton’s winning margin enough that the mainstream media can no longer ignore him. However, much of the their discussion on Sanders still revolves around asking the same, tired question: Is America ready to elect a socialist?
Putting aside the tired refrain that Bernie’s actually a Democratic Socialist — which Sanders and Larry David joked on SNL last weekend is a “huuuuuge difference†— recent polls actually have some surprising things to say about American’s attitudes towards socialism, suggesting that “socialism†is not quite as toxic of a word as the media seems to think. Indeed, many people are starting to openly and passionately embrace it.
Take a look at the results from a recent survey by YouGov. Respondents were asked whether they had a “favorable or unfavorable opinion†of socialism and capitalism. The results of one key demographic may surprise you.

As you can see, the majority of young people under 30 actually support socialism MORE than capitalism by a fairly large margin — 43 to 32 percent. More surprisingly, Democrats in general are split equally, with both socialism and capitalism being rated at 42% favorability each.
The only demographics in which socialism trails capitalism by significant margins are, predictably, among more affluent families, people older than 65, and Republicans.
Furthermore, a Gallup poll from last year asked people to vote on whether they’d be willing to vote for a president if the candidate was female, gay, atheist, etc. Notice how as the demographics get younger, people are more likely to vote for a socialist president.
I take pride in being a dirty capitalist and a heartless monster.

In general, parents have done a very poor job of educating their children.
I don’t see much difference between Hillary and Bernie’s politics. Bernie may be more honest about it but they’re both pretty much socialists or commies or leftists or whatever. Are there any big differences on major issues?

They think they’ll be the ones getting the free stuff and not the slaves making the free stuff.

Zactly. If Hillary wins the nomination, that is likely to happen as a whole. Good for us. Hillary will have a Romney effect on the Democrats. The worst thing about Sanders is that he is mainstreaming the notion of Socialism.
Big cause of this situation: The Frankfurt School.
Look it up, and what its Marxist-socialist minions desired — just what we now have.
You’re right that they are completely ignorant about it, but they know this system offers most of them nothing at all. Between outsourcing, importing of Third Worlders to cut them out of the workforce, and the general crappy economy, it is small wonder that so many are drug-abusing “gamers” that will never start their own households.
I’m puzzled that analysts say Bernie is winning young people while Hillary will carry minorities; most young people ARE minorities.
I thought the same thing; also, pretending we would be electing our first socialist in Sanders is absurd - we did it in 2008 (when he was a closet socialist) and 2012 (when he was openly Bolshevik).
I disagree that they are the least rebellious; they look at how we used to do things (get a skill, then a career, start a family, buy a home), and reject ALL of it. We are importing Third Worlders because we don’t make enough children, and too many of those want none of “the system”.
It happened in the ‘60s too - back then some went whole hog and tried to form communes - it became clear to those of the day why Socialism didn’t work - those who love it don’t want to do their part and the rest get tired of supporting the parasites.
