Peterborough, New Hampshire (CNN)Ted Cruz told a New Hampshire audience Sunday that requiring women to sign up for the draft is "nuts," breaking with the views of several Republican presidential rivals.
Two days before the New Hampshire primary Cruz veered off his stump speech to blast his GOP competitors on the issue, which came up at the ABC debate Saturday. Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush and Chris Christie all said or suggested they'd support women being required to enroll in Selective Service and be eligible for the draft, since female service members can now serve in combat roles. Cruz was not asked.
"It was striking that three different people on that stage came out in support of drafting women into combat in the military," Cruz said. "I have to admit, as I was sitting there listening to that conversation, my reaction was: Are you guys nuts?"

I read two hundred plus post threads on this.
Consider these two scenarios:
1. Women only in non-combat roles take those roles away from men who now are combat eligible. Net resort, more men KIA. This is not equality.
2. Jane 22, John 24, two kids 3 & 1. What happens to the kids when they both get drafted?
I agree with Cruz, the idea is nuts.

Some might argue that the draft itself is unconstitutional.
Probably the same thing that happened during WWII if you were the sole survivor of a farm or were in a critical profession needed for the war effort. You were exempted from the draft. So, if the husband was drafted and serving and the mother got a draft notice, she would probably be exempted.
I've seen too many females in the Army in the higher NCO and officer ranks that I wouldn't put in charge of a lemonade stand.

Women can volunteer for combat units in Israel. They apparently are not automatically assigned to them.

Common sense often makes the libs apoplectic. Women in frontline combat makes not a lick of sense from a strength perspective, from a hygiene perspective, morale, pregnancy etc.
But maybe Goldman Sachs made Cruz say this.

I rag on Cruz a lot, but I agree with him on this issue. Plus, he has 2 little girls he deosn’t wanted drafted. This country has gone mad!
There are plenty of non-combat MOSs within the military that are essential for combat MOSs to succeed in their tasks, that women can fill. The problem is that our military has leaders that are stupid, and put those non-combat MOSs in unnecessary danger. Combat zones are for Combat MOSs, ie. Infantry, Artillary, Tanks, etc.
Lets correct that to a more true statement Senator Cruz.

Funny you mention the 14th amendment. It forbids forced servitude except as punishment for a crime.
That's for the 20th century. All areas in the ME are dangerous.
Secondly, many support roles have to support combat roles, but they also have women in them, they will have to be excluded as well. Thus, there is really no point for women in the military if they can't be used for combat or anything dangerous or in a support role.
