Cruz: Drafting women is 'nuts'
Politico ^ | 02/07/16 | Katie Glueck

Posted on 02/07/2016 2:23:04 PM PST by Isara

PETERBOROUGH, N.H.-Ted Cruz on Sunday said he opposes requiring women to register for a potential draft, breaking with Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush and Chris Christie, all of whom indicated support for opening up the Selective Service to women during Saturday night's debate.

"I have to admit, as I was sitting there listening to that conversation, my reaction was, 'Are you guys nuts?'" Cruz said Sunday, speaking at a town hall here. "Listen, we have had enough with political correctness, especially in the military. Political correctness is dangerous. And the idea that we would draft our daughters to forcibly bring them into the military and put them in close combat, I think is wrong, it is immoral, and if I am president, we ain't doing it."

To applause, Cruz went on to note that he is a father to two daughters, and he wants them to follow their dreams.

"But the idea that their government would forcibly put them in a foxhole with a 220-pound psychopath trying to kill them doesn't make any sense at all," he said.

The previous night, at the presidential debate, Rubio said he had no problem with women in combat, and added, "I do believe Selective Service should be opened up for both men and women in the case a draft is ever instituted."

Bush made a similar argument but stressed that there is no draft and he is not calling for reinstating one.

Christie was less explicit, but more broadly indicated openness to allowing women to register for the Selective Service.

But you cannot have it both ways. If women are equal to men and should not be descrimunated against, and therefore serve in combat...then why shouldn’t they be drafted?

Why should your granddaughters matter more than another person’s grandsons? Are their lives more valuable?

Women have tried to push into every career that’s available to men, so it’s finally only logical that women be registered for the draft. But should a draft ever be necessary, we can be sure there will a very long list of deferments and exemptions for women, far longer the same list for men.

The number of women drafted would be much smaller than the number of men. Pregnant women and women with minor children will not be drafted, and there will be other exemptions.

Cut the nonsense. Cruz didn’t even know what happened, and he apologized. Stop milking a dead story.

In the age of obsession over overpopulation, your womb theory is really obsolete.

Fair can be uncharitable, and indeed unChristian.
Whatever the sins of the foolish leftist fathers of foolish leftist daughters, we ourselves are not excused our own sins, if these decisions are in part up to us.
There are more important things than revenge, or winning arguments.

Now that women want complete equality and all that, they should be subject to the draft. Just because someone is drafted doesn’t mean they will be in combat. If you want my son and grandson then my granddaughter should go to.

“Women of child-bearing age are the ultimate limited resource...”

You may be right, but we have arguments that are just as strong, and less controversial, than that one. The percentage of women who are drafted to serve in the military in any capacity who would not have to leave young children behind, who would report for duty, and who would not get pregnant within a year of boot camp would be very low. So, let's not start the whole mess.

That is no theory, it is nature, and never obsolete.
We have no overpopulation anyway.

Interesting. I thought Israeli women were drafted. I thought that 90% of our military were in non-combat roles such as medical, intelligence, planning, logistics, supply, maintenance, etc.

Carson wants Cruz to fire people 1) because it gets him free media time and 2) because Cruz has a much better team than he has and Carson wants to weaken them, and 3) because Carson doesn’t want to admit his team messed up. Team Cruz did exactly what they should have done. Cruz is being nicer than I think he should have to be.

Carson is the new Al Gore.

The moment they start coming home, in large numbers, maimed, and their pretty faces in black bordered pictures all over the media, this policy will change very rapidly. Human instinct cant be denied.

‘I thought Israeli women were drafted.’

They are, but they are in “non combat” roles.
The Israelis changed their minds about this >50 years ago.

I have no clue what you are talking about, nor do I care.

In case anyone else is curious, then . . . I am acting like a JoSixChip-type Trump supporter. Small wonder you don't understand.

I would hope he feels the same way about our sons.

I don’t think that men in the military really want a bunch of women with them on the battlefield. If a woman wants to do that and she can pass all the tests, fine. But most women won’t.

It is a non issue because there a zillions of wombs to spare. Also in the age of abortion, womb value is greatly downgraded. For the purposes you set forth — human existence — there are more than enough wombs to spare. AND, it is irrelevant because legally there is now no difference between men and women. It is all a social construct, doncha know?

Thank you for this reply. Women are not the same as men physically or emotionally. Involuntarily sending them off to war would be the act of an uncivilized nation.
