Poll: 4-way GOP fight for second in New Hampshire

Donald Trump still has a commanding lead in New Hampshire two days ahead of the primary, according to a new Monmouth University poll released Sunday, but there's a four-way race for second place.

Trump commands 30 percent support from likely Republican primary voters in New Hampshire, the poll found. John Kasich, Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush and Ted Cruz were virtually tied for second place, with 14 percent support for Kasich, 13 percent each for Rubio and Bush and 12 percent for Cruz.

Other candidates were far behind. Chris Christie had 6 percent support, Carly Fiorina had 5 percent and Ben Carson had 4 percent.

On the Democratic side, Bernie Sanders led Hillary Clinton by 10 points, with 52 percent support for Sanders and 42 percent for Clinton. The margin of error for both parties was plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.

The results on the GOP side were broadly in line with averages of recent polling in New Hampshire, with Bush and Kasich doing a little better they perform in the averages and Rubio doing a little worse. Bush was at 9 percent in the RealClearPolitics polling average and in the FiveThirtyEight weighted polling average. Kasich was at 12 percent in both averages, and Rubio was at 16 percent.

Frankly it’s a good summation of what many of us read hear from them.

That only godly people support Cruz. Or that is you take your faith seriously “there is only one choice”. Or that people that value the constitution will no doubt choose Cruz.

I admit often I don’t like the Donald’s bombastic attitude and have even said I could never vote for him in the general, but the way he preformed during eminent domain and said, “Shush up” and the local audience “booed” was one of the best back at you that I have ever scene and it was delivered in a nonchalant way. That’s what I liked about it.
I admit, I wanted Trump to crash and burn after Iowa and at 1st it seemed like it was happening, because I like Cruz. BUT, I think Trump is turning it around and acted somewhat Presidential in the last debate.
To the Trumpots I apologize, at this point I reverse myself and will vote for your candidate if Cruz doesn’t pull through.

If the poll is accurate, then the second place spot will most likely go to Cruz, due to his superior ground game. If that happens and Kasich comes in third, that will make Rubio’s chances for the nomination slim to none, which will distress the GOPe no end. They will then have only two options: to settle for politically blowing up the convention to get their guy (whoever that may be in June) nominated, or to let Trump or Cruz get the nomination, then spend the fall undermining the GOP candidate’s campaign.

Thanks. Good point. I too am guilty of sarcasm that is misunderstood due to my lack of communication skills.

“If you don’t vote for Ted Cruz, then you hate Jesus and America”

Because nothing screams Jesus and patriotism like a shaming letter. :-)

Rubio = 15.1% X 1.7 = 25.7 % and < Trump at 31.3

(taking the RCP average)

So mathematically, Trump is outside the "shooting range" of the nearest competitor.

= Trump win

Kasich has a better ground game in New Hampshire than Cruz.

We Conservatives tend to confuse the candidate with the supporters. It is natural that we like our candidate to be the best possible on the issues, and in his personal character.

But why should we expect anything of voters for that candidate. If someone likes our candidate due to the way he combs his hair, or smiles or hugs his dog, why should we object. If someone likes our candidate because he hates the opponent, why should be care?

Example:
100% Republican Liberty Caucus chat room supported the most conservative libertarian small government candidate for governor who was also pro-life, no exceptions.

One libertarian couple posted that they were pro-choice but supported the pro-life candidate anyway because they agreed with him on every other issue, especially anti-corruption.

Then campaign chair for the conservative Senate candidate posted in total seriousness that nobody could support the conservative candidate for governor unless they were 100% pro-life, no exceptions.

That is why we lose. We win with coalitions.

Every time a new poll comes out some one else is in 2nd place. 2nd place is a toss up.

How on earth could anyone consider Rubio to be “good on immigration”?

That guy was the very face of the Gang of 8, for crying out loud.
