Carson is not a serious candidate. You know it. I know it. Carson knows it. Trump compared him to a pathological child molester and the Trumpies cheered. But this Cruz gate. That’s despicable. LOL!

LOL! The philosophy!

Read your Scientology history. It’s a mind control cult. Read the stories of people who have escaped from it.

If Cruz is knocked out of the race, Rubio will be a shoe in for the nomination.

For that to happen, most Cruz supporters would have to have Rubio as their number two choice for prez, and not Trump.

As a Cruz supporter yourself, do you really think that's the case?

I know a thing or two about it. I wouldn't have commented to you as I did, if I didn't.

I agree it was not necessarily a smart move, and I am not sure if Cruz actually officially released it, or some campaign staffer mentioned it.

If I had a private jet or was flying charter, I might want to go home and recharge for a day or two..maybe more than just getting new clothes—who knows? maybe he had to have some sort of private medical procedure done and didn’t want to share...could have been to get his suits taylored or get new ones...I don’t know. But I do know that he did not suspend his campaign, which is what is now being reported that the Cruz campaign said...—tho not to diss Des Moines, but not sure what sort of clothiers they have for suites on a level for a presidential campaign....

Yeah, I am cutting Carson a break on it...it is because he is an OUTSIDER and inexperienced politician campaigner that people like him....If he was an experienced politician campaigner he probably would not have done it...

That said, campaigning and running the country are not the same thing....Dr. Carson did run the pediatric neurosurgery department of Johns Hopkins, a premier medical teaching facility, which is more than some of the candidates can say.

Whether he said it or a staffer said it, on the surface, it was not the best idea to go home, but I don’t think that disqualifies him from being a President.

I don’t blame either Trump or Cruz for commenting loudly about the actions of the Cruz campaign—I believe Cruz campaign was very loose with the facts and chose not to tighten them up by confirming with the Cruz campaign prior to or during caucuses...they could have and should have...if you watch the 2 videos on this thread, perhaps you will understand where Cruz and Trump are coming from.

It is one thing to lose in a fair fight, but it is another to lose in a questionable to unfair fight, and I think the race was questionable if not unfair—and even various Iowa officials agree.

Yes I do. There is no way after this sore loser man episode that I will vote for Trump in the primary. Trump is unbalanced. A loose cannon. If it is a choice between Trump and Rubio, I’m going with the sane one.

Trump gets about 30% of the Republican vote and that’s it. He has alienated about 70% of the electorate. People who are objective can see him for the egotistical unbalanced blow hard that he is and has always been. Rubio is likeable and he will get most of the center and some of the right. That’s all he needs. With Cruz out of the picture, Rubio coasts to the finish line.

I have seen the video of the van Susteren interview, and I have seen probably all the other information on this that you have and I have seen nothing new that would change my thinking in any way.

How about these links:

http://www.trevorloudon.com/2016/02/cnn-not-cruz-staff-responsible-for-ben-carson-campaign-suspension-rumor/

http://www.redstate.com/leon_h_wolf/2016/02/03/ben-carson-gets-hoisted-petard-isnt-pretty-video/

Does this information influence your thinking at all?

I repeat:
- all the information tells me that this started with the Carson camp
- Then CNN reported the news - that put it squarely in the public domain
- Then the Cruz camp and apparently the Rubio camp put the news out to the caucuses; and why not?

I don’t see anything evil, underhanded, dirty or unscrupulous here. This is a big nothing.

The biggest takeaway is that Carson has somebody on his staff that he shouldn’t have.

Well, we’ve obviously got different points of view about the leading candidates, and that’s alright. I’m not going to say you’re wrong. I see these people and the public’s reactions to them differently than you do.

My thoughts about them are more in line with what the national polls say about them. Not much more complicated than that.

It wasn’t that Carson decided to go home for a few days. It was that his staffer told the press about it WHILE THE CAUCUSES WERE STILL UNDERWAY.

OK, it was an amateur move, and OK, we can cut him some slack, but this isn’t Pop Warner football. This is the professional leagues. Carson has absolutely no cause to complain about the entirely natural and utterly foreseeable consequences of the actions of his own staffer.

...Iowa officials agree.

Iowa officials have nothing whatsoever to do with it.

Sorry, but to me, it is not what Carson or CNN did. It was what the Cruz campaign chose to do wih the information they received.

In the other Van Susteren interview, the Cruz campaign said the Carson campaign was suspended...that implied it was stopped.

Sorry but my take-away is that the Cruz campaign ran with very loose facts—come on—did you not see Steven King’s tweet?!?!

The Cruz campaign could have and should have confirmed. They chose not to—they took advantage...perhaps not illegal but very bad form. If I had a kid like Cruz or King on my soccer game, they’d get a yellow card at least!

It reminds me of playing cards with someone—maybe someone not as adept (A POLITICAL OUTSIDER) and inadvertently seeing one of their cards and using that info to win the game...may not be illegal...but it was really poor form what the Cruz campaign did in my and many others’ opinion,

BTW, what is the second video you talk about? The post had a link to the van Susteren interview (which I had seen live) but I don’t know what the second video is. I’d like to know so I can confirm whether or not I have seen it. Probably yes, but I can’t know for sure.

Sorry, I have to disagree. I think it was entirely fair and in fact I would say that Cruz was obliged to make it known once CNN broadcast the news. I suppose you could fault the Cruz people for believing ANYTHING sourced from CNN, but that’s another issue entirely.

The Cruz people were totally in the right using this, and so were the Rubio people, even though that story is not getting as much airtime - since the MSM is not interested in harming Rubio.

Look, I LIKE Carson, but this is hurting him more than Cruz, and Trump is looking like a total loser.

Responsibility for the entire fiasco rests entirely on the Carson staff.

If 4 Carson supporters in each of Iowa’s precincts switched their vote to Cruz, they would have accounted for Cruz’s margin of victory. There are 1,681 in Iowa and each of the precinct captains received word that Carson was dropping out and a Carson vote was just as good if it went to Cruz. I think there was a fairly good chance that some of them went to Cruz which accounted for his over-performance. And some of them went to Rubio, which accounted for his over-performance. In short, this dirty trick created havoc in the vote.

The fact that a Carson staffer leaked something has little to do with his ability to run the country.

Cruz and his campaign took advantage of situation and played fast and loose with the facts...They could have and should have confirmed. They chose not to and led caucusers to mistaken believe that Cruz was out. I think it was really bad form, and the more that comes out, the less I trust TRUSTED. Not showing much integrity.

Frankly. I don’t want a traditional polished slick politician campaigner who has done nothing but work in the public sector for their whole life—I want an outsider to turn Washington upside down and inside out. If they make an amateur move or put foot in mouth because they are on a learning curve, so be it.

You might want to rephrase that term, “last man standing.” He’s like a little kid playing at being president. Besides, if you love losing our republic, then by all means, vote for Rubio. It’s politics - they slam and body slam each other. It’s the nature of the game. It isn’t for weenies because it is a rough and tumble business. After it’s over - the majority of them kiss and make up.

Attacking a person’s arguments for the truth through personal attacks which have nothing to do with the argument is always a false argument. People who have studied debate methodology know exactly what this is. It is a cheap trick.

The fact that a Carson staffer leaked something has little to do with his ability to run the country.

When did I EVER suggest any such thing?

Cruz and his campaign took advantage of situation and played fast and loose with the facts...They could have and should have confirmed.

I do not believe that they played fast and loose with anything. I agree that they could have confirmed with the Carson campaign, but then so should have CNN before putting this on the air. They're supposed to be responsible journalists, remember.

They chose not to and led caucusers to mistaken believe that Cruz Carson was out.

That was CNN. Have you ever watched the broadcast? Even several Fox newspeople have said that they thought the information from the Carson camp indicated that he was dropping out.

I think it was really bad form, and the more that comes out, the less I trust TRUSTED. Not showing much integrity.

As you might imagine, I disagree. This is a mountain made of a molehill. And the molehill was one of Carson's own making - or his staff's.

Frankly. I don't want a traditional polished slick politician campaigner who has done nothing but work in the public sector for their whole life - I want an outsider to turn Washington upside down and inside out. If they make an amateur move or put foot in mouth because they are on a learning curve, so be it.

If that's true, then Cruz ought to be your guy. Especially since you think Cruz made a clumsy outsider's move in passing on CNN's news story about Carson.

At any rate, I think we have the same goal with respect to Washington DC. I think that goal can best be accomplished by Ted Cruz.
