Rubio picks up key N.H. endorsement: Romney, McCain, Bush campaign veteran backs Floridian

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire (CNN) - Marco Rubio on Tuesday scooped up an endorsement from a veteran Republican activist in New Hampshire as he looks to build upon a third-place finish in Iowa that has bolstered his credentials as a leading GOP establishment candidate.

Susan Duprey, who served as chief of staff to Ann Romney, Mitt Romney's wife, in 2011 and 2012, announced her support for the Florida senator on Tuesday night. She is married to GOP Republican National Committeeman Steve Duprey, who remains neutral in the race.

Duprey also worked with her husband on John McCain's 2008 campaign and was New Hampshire finance committee co-chair for former President George W. Bush's 2004 campaign.

"Having worked for the previous four Republican nominees for President, I know what it takes to not only win the Republican primary, but also to take on the Democratic Party machine and win the general election," Duprey said in a statement. "Only one candidate meets that standard and that is Marco Rubio."

"After his strong showing in Iowa last night, momentum is breaking his way, and it has become abundantly clear that Marco Rubio is the best candidate for our party. I'm thrilled to throw my support behind Marco," the statement adds.

News of Duprey's endorsement was first reported by WMUR.

A CNN/WMUR poll released on Sunday found Rubio in third with 11% support among likely Republican primary voters in New Hampshire. The Granite State holds its primary on February 9.

No he is not a Rino. His conservative rating is 4th in the Senate. Is an always has been a principled conservative. Even Rush admits that much. If you are looking for a rino and the establishment darlings they are in this order: Bush, Christie and Kaisch.

RE: Meanwhile, Cruz has Rick Perry & Glenn Beck. Short list there, LOL.

Actually Ted Cruz has a LONG list of endorsements in Congress.

Notice that most of them are TEA PARTY Republicans.

Among them Rep. Steve King, Louie Gohmert, Bob Barr and Tom McClintock of California.

Soooo, " Bronze is the New Gold Rubio," is now presented to us by the media as our "winner!"

The only question is, will he take fourth or fifth in NH?

It’s a “bandwagon” thing that can sway the uninformed.

Well, if Texans didn’t want Gramm, they could have nominated Ron Paul or Hank Grover in the 1984 primary. They didn’t, and Gramm was the winner on the Reagan-Bush ticket.

Santorum often called himself the most conservative senator from the Northeast, and I think he was. But the desire for a winner is too strong for most.

RE: Santorum often called himself the most conservative senator from the Northeast, and I think he was.

He supported Arlen Specter over Pat Toomey.

The dearly departed Specter was an opportunist who switched from being Democrat to Republican and then in his final years in the Senate, became Democrat again.

Go figure that.

All true, but only Bob Smith of NH was more conservative, and he left the Senate before Santorum did. Toomey is another of many disappointing Republicans, and I understand he is likely to lose this year.

Yeah right a paid staffer, I wish. I have been following free republic for years.Just got active recently sure. So of course my motives are suspect. I get that. Rubio is neither establishment nor a Rino. I am not the only one saying that. Many very respected conservatives are saying it. Believe what you want to believe. Many conservatives are rallying their support of him, because they want to win. Rubio is no McCain or Romney. He has my support. Having said that I would vote for any of the remaining Republican nominees, because I have one goal, beating Hillary Clinton. and I know I could be wrong. You watch when the Nominee is finally announced I will be here cheering them on.
