Rand Paul suspends presidential campaign
Washington Post ^ | 3 Feb 16 | Robert Costa

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) announced Wednesday that he is suspending his presidential campaign, bringing an end to a bid that began with aspirations of expanding the libertarian base that his father, Ron Paul, built into a powerful national coalition.

"It's been an incredible honor to run a principled campaign for the White House," Paul said in a statement. "Today, I will end where I began, ready and willing to fight for the cause of Liberty."

Too bad, I like Rand and it was good for him to get his views out there.

Good on Rand. Not his year and he knows it.

I enjoyed Rand teaching Trump what the Constitution actually says.

I have a soft spot in my heart for small-l libertarians.

It’s too bad, I was planning on voting for him. He needs to take the time and build up his name. It is the year of Trump so it’s hard for him to really compete

TRUMP WILL HAVE TO COMMUNICATE SUBSTANTIVE POLICY OR HE TOO WILL GO THE WAY OF PAUL.

The strange subliminal thing about Rand is he looks a lot like an older Lee Harvey Oswald.

7 posts on a thread about Rand Paul, and 3 of them are about Trump.

Too funny.

OK I will try to help even out the post:

Paul’s supporters are more ideologically aligned with Cruz and this should help him.
There.
Oh, did you hear about Trump’s meltdown?
He wants a new caucus after getting his ass beat in Iowa.
Pathetic.

It remains to be seen. I would think his voters would split between Cruz and Rubio, but who knows?

Do we still have to caucus for a presidential candidate in Kentucky or can we have our primary back?

He would have been still chugging along if he didn’t try to distance himself from his dad’s beliefs.

I like Rand too, and I enjoyed his lessons in the Constitution, but he was going nowhere, and we need his strong voice in the Senate.

I don’t know if his time will ever come, but this was certainly not it. It’s good that Rand was realistic enough to acknowledge that.

I suspect that many of his people will float to Cruz.

What are we down to now, 10?

Ran’d not quite the radical libertarian that his father sometimes seemed to be.

I have my disagreements (and areas of agreement) with libertarians, but there are reasonable ones and radical ones — perhaps the difference between the small-l libertarians and the Capital-L Libertarians. I think they enrich the conversation. (The Rothbardians vs. the Reasonm Magazine crowd.)

Anyone who is for restoring constitutionally limited government is OK in my book, even when I disagree with him or her on a range of issues.

Sorry to see Rand go, but he was getting no traction.

Why would his supporters go to Cruz? Rand hates Cruz, calls him a fraud.

I love Rand Paul especially when he is ambushing Rubio in the debates. And he’s a good senator. He needs to stay in the Senate.

Split between Cruz and Trump I suspect. Where else can they go, aside from maybe Carson but after NH he will be an after thought in this race.

Rand is my senator and I will vote for him in his re-election bid but I am still royally pissed he jumped into bed with that sleaze bag McConnell and his re-election campaign. McConnell is just pure traitorous trash to the core, a soulless money whore.

Rand Paul On Shutdown: "Even Though It Appeared I Was Participating In It, It Was A Dumb Idea"
I said throughout the whole battle that shutting down the government was a dumb idea. Even though it did appear as if I was participating in it, I said it was a dumb idea. And the reason I voted for it, though, is that it's a conundrum. Here's the conundrum. We have a $17 trillion debt and people at home tell me you can't give the president a blank check. We just can't keep raising the debt ceiling without conditions. So unconditionally raising the debt ceiling, nobody at home wants me to vote for that and I can't vote for that. But the conundrum is if I don't we do approach these deadlines. So there is an impasse. In 2011, though, we had this impasse and the president did negotiate. We got the sequester. If we were to extend the sequester from discretionary spending to all the entitlements we would actually fix our problem within a few years.

Rand Paul: Time for GOP to soften war stance
...by softening its edge on some volatile social issues and altering its image as the party always seemingly "eager to go to war... We do need to expand the party and grow the party and that does mean that we don't always all agree on every issue" ... the party needs to become more welcoming to individuals who disagree with basic Republican doctrine on emotional social issues such as gay marriage... "We're going to have to be a little hands off on some of these issues ... and get people into the party," Paul said.

Rand Paul's immigration speech
...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...

This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.

Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reform
Latinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... [and the buried lead] "Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers...
