Youth vote: Sanders 84%, Clinton 14%, Cruz 26%, Rubio 23%, Trump 20%

Younger voters turned out in droves in Iowa, nearly reaching the Obama-fed 2008 surge, flocking overwhelmingly to Democrat Sen. Bernie Sanders, while siding with GOP winner Sen. Ted Cruz, according to a youth voter analysis.

A Tufts University report just issued showed that 11.2 percent of eligible Iowans 17 to 29 participated in the GOP and Democratic caucuses, making up 15 percent of the actual vote.

The school's Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning & Engagement, part of Tufts' Jonathan M. Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service, reported:

-- Of the estimated 31,000 young people who participated in the Democratic caucus, 84 percent supported Sanders, contributing to a virtual tie between Secretary Hillary Clinton and Senator Sanders.

-- Young Republicans selected Cruz as their top candidate (with 26 percent), closely followed by Sen. Marco Rubio (23 percent). Youth support for Donald Trump, which came in at approximately 20 percent.

-- Since 1996, youth turnout in Iowa has exceeded 4 percent only twice: in 2008 (14 percent) and yesterday (11.2 percent).

-- A record-breaking 22,000 young people voted in the Republican caucus.

-- About 31,000 young people participated in the Democratic caucus, the second highest level since 1996 (behind 2008).

"Last night's Iowa caucuses demonstrated the potential power of young people to shape elections," said Kei Kawashima-Ginsberg, director of CIRCLE. "In the Democratic caucus, young voters helped to propel Senator Sanders to a virtual tie, and Republican youth broke their own record of caucus participation. One message is clear: when candidates and campaigns ask young people to participate and inspire them to get involved, they respond."

Shrillary is going to get smoked so badly in New Hampshire. Iowa was not a college state but New Hampshire is. After Bernie's showing last night, those NH students are going to be all fired up.

They don't flip coins in New Hampshire either - at least not to decide election results (is Iowa not a nutty state?).

We need Hillary to win, the little kiddies are coco for coco puff for Sanders. Sanders embodies everything children dream of, mainly, never working for a living.

Don’t think much usually of the “youth vote” - too young, too poor, too naive, too sheltered but this GOP youth vote are miles and miles ahead of the other party,

Wonder what the numbers would show if the voting age was still 21?

With a little maturity and life experiences, I think the numbers would be much different.

That’s the result of liberals taking over public education. If there’s not a CW while us older folks are around, this country is toast.

Yes, I am always impressed with the accumulated knowledge and experience of 20 year old art majors.

voting should be 21.
My 18 year old can vote, but at least he knows politics unlike many of his high school aged friends who said they will vote and have no idea what they are voting for.

“With a little maturity and life experiences, I think the numbers would be much different.”

In my experience children today remain children and accumulate no relevant life experienxes until their 30’s. Exceptions are people who join the military or get married and have children and actually take care of their spouses and children, but these people are in the minority. I know 28 year olds who have worked less than 5% of their adult lives, and the short times they do work are completely unable to get to work unless mom takes them, and the mom has the balls to justify it. It is physically revolting to me...but Bernie is proud to have the xbox generation

Liberals and socialists! We hate them, but we can’t come up with any model beyond that of selfish drudgery to take their place.

What’s actually been missing for a long time is gospel. The idea that God Himself will be generous if we but play the game according to His rules.

I have a sinking sense that Cruz, up against Bernie, would get Berned... unless some revolution in Cruz’s attitude occurs and we start seeing the positive side of the gospel out of him.

But... the fire of God’s generosity could burn Bernie. God did not make people to be utterly selfish, or even to be Robin Hoods. Those are poor substitutes for the thing the bible calls agape love, or in some translations, charity. But it is a kind of supernatural seasoning on what we have that makes it much more effective AND much more satisfying.

Now, how are we going to get that to happen.

Well I’d say to start with, a vast kneemail campaign.

This is what happens when mommy goes off to work and her children become wards of the State, schooled in Socialism, Communism, Marxism and Fascism and brainwashed into idolizing it. Che Guevara T-shirts anyone?

Single females screwed America in 2008. America's youth will screw America in 2016.

In general, a loss of family love, which in turn was made by God to be a shrine of His love.

The process can be reversed, but it takes a new concentration upon the promises of the Lord to bring it about. We’ve all got to repent of our worldliness, our ideas that we own it all, and turn to the generosity and grace of God instead. It’s actually a no-brainer trade, but our pride stops us so often.
