Dallas county health authorities said Tuesday they have received confirmation of the first Zika virus case acquired through sexual transmission.

In a statement, the Dallas County Health and Human Services said the patient was infected with the virus after having sexual contact with a sick person who returned from a country where Zika virus is present. Dallas authorities said they received confirmation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

For medical confidentiality and personal privacy reasons, Dallas health authorities said they are not providing additional identifying information.

Hmm. Dallas. Ebola, and now Zika. Wonder why the Obama administration might be targeting Texas?

Are there any other mosquito born viruses that can be transmitted sexually?

Always been surprised mosquitos have not been shown to be a transmission vector for aids.

First the little stinger, then the big stinger, then the problem????

We can keep it South of the Border and let them deal with it, - if we want!!!

But no, it's like AIDS - everyone's gonna get it!!! Right!

I’ve never heard of one and that makes the Zika virus very suspicious to me. I could be wrong.

Years ago I read a piece with an explanation for why AIDS wasn’t transmittable via mosquito. I have clue what it said, sigh.

Damn good thing it’s not or we’d all be dead.

If your not pregnant or if you’re a man should you have anything to fear from this virus?

Actually no. The infection is generally mild, and most infected people don't even know they've been infected. The association with microcephaly is a new finding. Unfortunately, the mosquito that spreads zika is also the vector for dengue and chikungunya, much scarier diseases.

The Dallas-Fort Worth area has been a hub for settling refugees since the 1970s, major attraction for illegal immigrants AND home to an international airport that gets lots of traffic from around the world.

So between people from all over the world coming here to stay without disease checks to being brought here by the feds without disease checks or visiting / passing through without disease checks, this is not a surprise.

It’s blood borne.

STD transmission is in some part responsible for the outbreak in the shanty towns of south and central America.

Once a mosquito feeds, it’s set for a while. By the time it bites another victim, any HIV virus left on its stinger should be dead from being out of the body for too long.

The fact it potentially damages babies is the most upsetting part of this. Men can be fathers...

“Always been surprised mosquitos have not been shown to be a transmission vector for aids.”

Me too. And if mosquitos were indeed a vector, do you suppose political correctness would suppress that inconvenient fact?
