Marco Rubio's November Electability Problem
PJ Media ^ | Feb 2, 2016 | J. Christian Adams

There hasn’t been this much excitement in the luxury boxes since the 1991 Kentucky Derby when Mane Minister showed at 87-1. Marco Rubio’s expected third-place showing set off a frenzy of spin and sly promotion in the commentary class. The conventional wisdom is that Rubio is the more electable Republican in November as compared to Ted Cruz or Donald Trump.

The conventional wisdom is wrong, just as it was in 2012 and 2008.

Marco Rubio has two significant problems that render him a problematic November candidate. The first is his record on the most important issue of the year. The second is being the newly anointed preferred candidate of the Washington establishment.

The strongest supporters of Marco Rubio are those who think the political rules of 1996 still govern election outcomes in 2016. They believe a candidate cannot win without appealing to the moderate middle. They still believe the incentive and reward system of the pre-polarized world governs election outcomes (or they are themselves politically moderate).

Right on point. They’re pushing Rubio like they pushed Bush, Fiorina, Kasich, etc.

Biggest difference with Rubio is Rush’s support. Heart-breaking.

A trained talker, absolutely worthless for anything else.

The man cannot handle $$, which leaves him bought and paid for! Marco Rubio is BAD with money! His net worth is less than mine and I never earned a tenth of the $$ he has!
Forbes 2016 Presidential Candidate Wealth List
Net worth Rubio $100,000
Florida senator has a house, boat, kids college plans and lots of debt
UP FOR SALE!!

RUBIO doesn’t do what he is paid to do and vote. He holds the all time record for AWOL in the Senate!!! ALL TIME!!

According to GovTrack, an independent congressional monitor that tracks the voting records of all congressional offices in the Capitol, Rubio is consistently at the top end in terms of missed votes. In 2014, a year before he even announced his presidential campaign, Rubio was in the Top 15, missing 45 out of the 657 Senate votes taken that year — an abstention rate of 6.8%. His record has gotten exponentially worse this year: since January 2015, Rubio has missed an estimated 32% of the votes that the Senate has held (91 out 283 on record as of October 25). In fact, from July to September alone, he missed more than half (53.8 %), giving him the embarrassing distinction of having the second-worst voting attendance during that period.

One of these missed votes included the final passage of the 2016 National Defense Authorization Act: the legislation that authorizes programs and policy for the U.S. military and Defense Department for the coming fiscal year. In short, a man who is basing a good chunk of his presidential campaign on foreign policy and national security missed one of the most important national security votes Congress took this year.

He doesn't show up to vote in the job he's already been elected to do.

rubio can go to hell, and so can the people trying to nominate him.

Limbaugh knows what Rubio is. Limbaugh sold out. It’s the reason you never hear Rush condemn the open border, muslim loving K street Lobbyist who OWN Rubio....Grover Norquist and immgration lawyer, chief of staff Cesar Conda.

ANOTHER ISSUE:

IRS complaint filed over Rubio-boosting secret-donor group

WASHINGTON (AP) A Washington watchdog group filed a complaint Tuesday with the IRS about a secret-donor nonprofit organization that is spending millions of dollars on commercials to boost Marco Rubio’s 2016 prospects.

Conservative Solutions Project has aired pro-Rubio TV ads in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, in addition to sending mail to voters in those early presidential primary states.

The group spent about $6 million on two batches of broadcast and cable TV ads and had planned to spend another $2 million on satellite television, The Associated Press reported earlier this month.

That activity piqued the interest of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a political spending watchdog known as CREW. The group argued in a complaint to the IRS that Conservative Solutions is operating primarily to help elect Rubio and is therefore breaking the law.

“This is an abuse of the nonprofit status,” said Noah Bookbinder, director of CREW. “They are collecting money secretly for political purposes, which you should not be able to do and in fact we believe that you are not legally able to do.”

Unlike campaigns and groups known as super PACs, nonprofit organizations are allowed to keep their donors secret. In exchange for that privilege, tax law requires that they stick primarily to nonpolitical activities...

I think Rubio may be the one, but not for the reasons stated here. I started out as a Walker/Carson guy. I was prepared to make my peace with Trump, but his talk about getting along with Pelosi/Reed/Schumer, and the need to “get together and get things done” confirms my fears. He is not a conservative. I live in California, and this looks like Schwarzenegger redux to me. If I could anoint the next President it would be Cruz. I share all the concerns/frustrations/ anger with Rubio. I don’t buy into the “electability” argument re Cruz. You take your case to the People. But, I think that the GOPe has more than enough steam left in them to successfully sabotage a Cruz election. C’mon, you know that rat B*stards will do it without thinking twice. Ask Ken Cucinelli if they’re stupid and vicious enough to do it. That’s why I’m thinking about making peace with Rubio. Haven’t done it yet, but...

More issues of him reinventing his history, i.e., “lying”, to make him more acceptable in linked article below. (I know, it’s HuffPo, but there are facts and dates.)

I think his parents’ political history needs to be vetted seriously.

STILL ANOTHER ISSUE:

RECORDS SHOW MARCO RUBIO SPENT THOUSANDS WITH GOP CREDIT CARD

U.S. Senate candidate Marco Rubio charged grocery bills, repairs to the family minivan and purchases from a wine store less than a mile from his West Miami home to the Republican Party of Florida while he was speaker of the Florida House, according to records obtained by the St. Petersburg Times/Miami Herald.

Rubio said Wednesday that he paid for all personal expenses billed to an American Express card given to him by the party to use from 2005 to 2008, when he left public office. The rest of the charges, he said, were legitimate party expenses.

Those expenses include a $1,000 charge at Braman Honda in Miami for repairs to the family car in January 2008. Rubio said the minivan was damaged by parking attendants at a political function and that the party agreed to cover half of his insurance deductible. The party also paid $2,976 for him to rent a car in Miami for five weeks.

The cited factors will not matter to the average voter in the general election. They are vitally important, of course, to hardcore Conservatives of the type found here in FR, but when the time comes for the general it simply boils down to a popularity contest. The reason Romney and McCain lost, when all was said and done, is that they simply did not catch the imagination (i.e. were as likable to the average shallow voter primed by the image-based mainstream media) as Obama was conveyed. It’s been that way since the Nixon-Kennedy race, and most voters are less intelligent and cognizant of the issues now than they were then. Let’s face it: at least half the US population never matured past high school.

Here are some elected GOPe Rino establishment hacks supporting Rubio:

Trey Gowdy
Mia Love
Tim Scott
Darrel Issa
Jason Chaffetz
James Inhofe
Cory Gardner
James Risch

No wonder he is so unpopular here on Free Republic.
