Army and Marine Corps chiefs: It’s time for women to register for the draft
Washington Post ^ | February 2, 2016 | Dan Lamothe

...said they were in favor of the change during an occasionally contentious Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on the forthcoming full integration of women in the military. They offered their opinions in response to a question from Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), who said that she also is in favor of the change.

"Senator, it's my personal view that, based on this lifting of restrictions... every American who's physically qualified should register for the draft," Neller said.

"Senator, I think that all eligible and qualified men and women should register for the draft," said Milley.

The comments are a first in the Defense Department. Previously, senior defense officials have said only that the issue would need to be researched following Defense Secretary Ashton B. Carter's historic decision in December to open all jobs in the military to women without exception.

Carter's action allows women for the first time to apply for a variety of physically punishing positions, including Army and Marine Corps infantryman, as well as Special Operations jobs, including Navy SEAL and Green Beret. The Defense Department plans to begin implementing associated changes in training and evaluation by April 1.

The Selective Service System has existed for decades, and was created to make sure the military has enough manpower when it is short-handed in a time of war. A variation of it was first adopted in 1917, as the United States prepared to join enter World War I.

But Selective Service laws have never required women to subject themselves to the draft and face the prospect of being forced into military service. The current version of the Military Selective Service Act requires that virtually all men in the United States between the ages of 18 and 26 register, most within 30 days of turning 18. That includes non-U.S. citizens...

Israel? Scripture? There are times that God specifically judges nations but if I recall it is for abominations such as child sacrifice.

My nephew just did 4 years as a Marine and didn’t see combat. My point is, there are a lot of people doing a lot of things in support of combat roles. I’ve known plenty of women that would do those jobs, and one that got pregnant to avoid a non-combat deployment.

If I were to be drafted, I assume it would be in a time of war. My chances of seeing combat would increase quite a bit, no? All of the people you speak of chose to enter that field. I really do not believe I would do well in the military. At all. I don’t want the chance to find out either. I have several people in my family in the Navy and Air Force, and I really do not envy them.

Female? I was thinking women could be drafted, in the interest of equality, to fill admin positions, thus freeing up a lot of men for combat. Believe me, there are plenty of men in the military with no interest in seeing combat.

Female what? My relatives? No. My cousin and her husband. Some other male relatives, too.

If that is the case, these men won’t appreciate women being drafted. Still, what’s to guarantee that women will fill these positions and won’t be sent out to battle immediately? In the interest of “equality,” of course. That would be a stupid strategy, but these people exemplify stupidity.

There are plenty of administrative duties that women could perform, freeing up able bodied men for combat.

That is a really uniformed position. All the cushy REMF jobs to rotate into after an arduous tour of duty are going to filled by female REMFs. /sarc

Does anyone know how the military works? You can't keep rotating the same guys thru all the dangerous and sucky tours of duty until they quit or die. They deserve down time which is what ever REMF job really is.

They opened the doorway, they were not content with being secretaries of safe support jobs behind the lines.

I personally don’t approve of women in combat, homosexuals in the Military, or Transgenders, they have no place in the Military. They make heterosexuals uneasy and create tensions that are not necessary. They leave a Trooper open for charges of sexual harassment when there really is none. The few rape cases are like the college ones, or the church ones. You just can’t sweep it under the rug, or shuffle them around they must be court-martialed and discharged when proven correct, no more he/she said, hard DNA evidence is needed or witnesses. PC run amok.

There are a lot of people (in and out of FR) saying that we absolutely should do this, because if men are subject to the draft, so women should be as well...what’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

I could not disagree more strongly to this shortsighted point of view.

Having women in combat is bad. It is wrong. It is wrong, from the ground up and from all points of view, it is wrong, and it is going to get people killed, and we are going to lose battles and wars as a result of it.

Any thinking person should be against women in combat as a basis for any other decisions on the draft, deployments or anything else.

The US Navy and US Army have already made the choice to allow women into combat roles, and the decreased readiness, capability and morale are evident.

On the pessimistic side, this is all a fait accompli. It is a done deal, as is open homosexuality in the military. It isn’t going to get undone now by anyone, I don’t care who gets into office. Mark my words. Any politician, general, or anyone else who says they are going to reverse this is lying, and they know it.

And the liberals who pushed for this (to turn the military into Scandinavian Job Program-like organizations) have known this from the start, what the end game is, the destruction of the military as an effective force with a global reach. That is why Obama has used executive orders to advance this, and his administration has purged anyone from the military who might stand in the way and has replaced them with pliant stooges. The ones who remain see full well what will happen if they speak out.

As this progresses, we are going to see a lot of military leaders (and personnel at all rank levels) saying how wrong people were who were against this, that readiness and capability is better than it has ever been, and everything is going to be good. They will say this, and may even believe it themselves, because it will be good for their careers. That will all be understood.

Then, when the SHTF, and there is death, humiliation, and defeat, as is the case in any military endeavor that has any liberal fingerprints on it at all, the people responsible for this will be long gone. If they aren’t long gone, they will be screaming the loudest and the longest about how could all of this have come to pass, and who is responsible for this!

I oppose draft registration, but if it’s there, it’s there for all. Military service and combat are not synonymous, however. I met lots of men I wouldn’t want to be in a combat situation with.

I did the math, once, when I was bored. The Chinese, at the time, could have their male population decimated three times and still have a 1:1 ratio of male to female. Scary.

I would suggest that you do not appreciate how the political game is played in Washington. Often, the way to success is through in indirect approach. Politicians are worms and weaklings, they will collapse like a cheap suit with confronted with the consequences of their political games. The Marines are complete masters of this game. Read about the Chowder Society if you want to know how the military can play the game with their political masters. A female will never be drafted by the United States, ever.

I am not promoting women in combat, if the liberal women are demanding equality, then give it to them, along with all of the “perks”.

Once reality hits them square in the face, maybe they’ll rethink it.

Maybe this is also what is needed to help stem the social experimentation that the elected pukes in DC keep insisting on.
