It’s not about whether Phil is correct or not. For those of us who observe GHD it’s a Milestone of the Year like Twelfth Night, the fire festivals across Northern Europe, Mardi Gras and more.
It’s the celebration of the emergence of animals from their burrows and while it many times does not really indicate that Winter is winding down, the end is in sight.
No matter what the weather, SPRING IS ON THE WAY.....HOORAY!

Cruz is my pick, too and I was doing a happy dance when he beat Trump last night. But, I must admit, Rubio had the better speech. There is something to be said for brevity
In the other years, he saw his shadow, which means 6 more weeks of winter. This year, because he did not see his shadow, we will supposedly have an early spring. Actually, I believe the Farmer’s Almanac says early spring. The guys at Gobbler’s know probably get their prediction from that!
