WASHINGTON -- Iowa's secretary of state on Saturday blasted Ted Cruz's campaign over a controversial mailer that aims to drive voters to the polls for Monday's caucuses by claiming they have committed "violations."

"Today I was shown a piece of literature from the Cruz for President campaign that misrepresents the role of my office, and worse, misrepresents Iowa election law," Paul Pate, a Republican, said in a statement Saturday.

“I’m confident he WELCOMED the opportunity to “rip Cruz.” He has always struck me as the personification of the term “Republican establishment.” “

sounds about right, but doesn’t detract from the reprehensible of the mailer, AND I believe ANY SecState would have had to make some kind of announcement refuting the untruthful insinuations relative to the function of SecState’s office.

Sending an apology to you for my earlier comment. I just found your posting from yesterday where you mentioned Rubio’s “shame” report card. “

LOL!

thanks for the apology, but I’ve been so inundated with both good and bad responses I can’t remember them all, and tend to just ignore the bad ones anyway, so I’ll have to go back and see the one you’re apologizing for :-)

at any rate, apology accepted!

“Pssssst. Dirty little secret......the Iowa Republican Party did a similar mailing in 2012. Don’t tell anybody.”

please provide proof. if not, then i think we can all safely ignore your claim, which pretty much amounts to the playground taunt of “Nah, nah, nah, NAH, nah, some one else did the dirty toooooo-ooh before youuuuu-ooh.”

the reprehensible of the mailer

Agreed. At best, it's one of those idiotic made-to-look-official pieces of junk mail that I've come to despise simply because they hope to deceive me. The only reason I ever look at one is to make note of who's lying to me.

In fact, if I'm an unethical campaign operative and wish to make our opponent look bad, I'm looking for a way to do something exactly like this. Send out a despicable piece-of-sh*t mailer with "Paid for by" HIS campaign on it.

Of course, I'm pretty sure the government masterminds behind campaign finance reforms have done everything they could think of to make that (nearly) impossible to pull off.

Here is what Rubio sent out, now explain to me exactly how it's "the same thing".

I'm not even sure how to respond to you. Did you "miss" the print on the Rubio picture you posted where it says "Iowa Caucus Report Card"? Did you miss that Rubio used the SAME public voting records to give a "score" on how an Iowan didn't vote in earlier elections?

I was really disappointed to hear about this, then my tinfoil hat started tingling and I disbelieved. I need to hear Cruz's explanation on this one.

I'll always remember how Dingy Hairy made a last minute false claim about his fellow Mormon Romney not paying any taxes. When asked about the lie he said "we won didn't we?". What a filthy business Dems have made politics.

Why is this front page again? I understand the need to saturate FR with Hatred of conservative candidates, but this is getting ridiculous.

Why not just tell people to caucus based on their guys positive qualities instead of attacking others?

I need to hear Cruz's explanation on this one.

At the pre-caucus rally here this afternoon (4:30 at Grace Baptist on E. Post Road at Hwy 100 in south Marion, if you're interested), I really REALLY hope he calls on my raised hand so I can ask him about it.

Deception is NOT what I'd expect from his campaign. Did he know about it? Or, did he fire whomever approved it? Gotta think others want to know, too.

This couldn't have come at a worse time. It will certainly result in more votes for Trump and Rubio (which also works in Trump's favor).

(Trump says whatever he believes his prey wants to hear. That is "The Art of the Deal." Always.)

I don’t find Rubio’s to be intimidating at all.

That sort of thing is acceptable, IMO.

Cruz went way too far.

Thanks for posting it because I keep hearing how Rubio and Cruz sent out the same thing. Apples and broccoli.

I don’t see a grade, or neighbors’ names and grades.

I suppose that is what makes the difference for me, as well as the big VOTING VIOLATION stamp.

I think you missed my sarcasm. It definitely seems laws may have been broken. Meanwhile, here is an interesting analysis of just how and why the Cruz mailer was bad, wrong, and technically ineffective or counterproductive.

LOL_ the last line of the article :

” Ted Cruz’s mailer is an excellent case study in how not to use social pressure in order to increase voter turnout.”

Yep.

It’s the neighbors names and the made up grades, and the sharing of that information that constitutes libel, and it also constitutes creepy things that creeps do.

As far as the VOTING VIOLATION stamp goes, no voting law was violated, so that too is a false accusation.

The Creepy Cruzers can’t seem to wrap their heads around that, or they just don’t want to, but their attempts to pull others down to the level of their creepy candidate makes them creeps too.
