Trump on Drugs - The Donald adopts another dumb Democrat health care position.
TAS ^ | 1 Feb 16 | David Catron

Donald Trump has never met a dumb health care idea he didn’t like. We learned during the first GOP debate that he has an affinity for Scotland’s incredibly dysfunctional system of socialized medicine. We have subsequently discovered that he would replace Obamacare with “something terrific,” the details of which he still declines to reveal except to say that “the government’s gonna pay for it.” Now Trump has endorsed another bad idea that Democrats — including Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, and Barack Obama — have long advocated despite evidence that it won’t work and could reduce access to crucial medications for millions of seniors.

Trump’s latest brainstorm is to permit Medicare to “negotiate” prices directly with pharmaceutical companies. He claims that this would save us YUGE amounts of money “by getting discounts as the biggest buyer of prescription drugs.” Because he is notoriously lazy about doing his homework, Trump doesn’t understand that Medicare does not negotiate prices. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) uses the leverage of the federal government to dictate prices. This is how CMS gets away with paying health care providers less than cost (and I do mean cost, not charges) for treating Medicare patients.

And, like all government price control schemes, this has created shortages. It is why Medicare patients have long endured a shortage of primary care physicians. Given the authority that Trump advocates, CMS would dictate absurdly low prices, whereupon the drug industry would stop offering medications on which they are thus denied a profit. To protect seniors from the resultant drug shortages, and prevent the stifling effect it would have on innovation, Congress prohibited CMS from engaging in direct negotiation with pharmaceutical companies in 2003, when it expanded the Medicare program to cover prescription medications via Part D.

At the best for your case, Trump has embraced positions that can be made to seem contradictory.

Trump, when taken in context, gives assurances that make sense. What you seem to expect is a 10,000 word position paper in a 1 minute campaign speech.

It is an absurd expectation. It is the reason that most politicians feed us rediculous kubuki theater instead of plain talk. Words so carefully crafted, that they mean nothing, and we are expected to read between the lines as a sort of code about what they will actually do.

For example: George W. Bush and the Clinton Assault Weapon Ban, said that “He would sign it if it came to his desk.”

Second Amendment Supporters were expected to read that to mean that he would do everything he could, behind the scenes, to make sure that it did not come to his desk.

Now Trump, speaking plainly, clearly unscripted, unrehearsed, without a teleprompter, is expected never to utter a word that can be taken out of context to show an apparent contradiction.

The expectation is absurd.

This is one of the main reasons that Trump resonates with so many. He is not the ultimately scripted politician who has all of his speeches run through focus groups, then is careful never to stray from what the consultants tell him to say, because that can get you into trouble.

These sort of “Hate Trump” gotcha posts are what I expect from the GOPe and the Media cartel.

Like I said you’re a perfect Trump man. Your Putinista candidate is perfect for you and your vile approach to political discourse speaks for itself.

Why don’t you take a break? Take a few breaths before you post. Say some prayers. Go for a walk. Get some exercise. Try to get more sleep. Realize we’re all God’s children when you want to lash out in anger. Don’t form an idolatrous relationship with a politician. They’re all too leaky a vessel to put your emotions into.

Do a google search “Trump single payer.” What you’ll find is that Trump has been on both sides of the issue and back and forth again. Who knows what he thinks or means?

Knock off the name calling.

The simple fact is that the Donald has no track record to which we can refer to ascertain his positions, only his words, and they are contradictory and change often. If he wants the highest office in the country, I, for one, would prefer something more tangible than, “we’ll replace it with something great,”. What in blazes is that supposed to mean.

Quit clogging threads with nonsense that we have heard a thousand times before. I just want a fully vetted candidate, and one whose values make me feel secure with their decision making ability.

Trump is neither at the moment, but I reserve judgement. Would have been nice if he hadn’t skipped the last debate.

I understand you’re angry. I think it’s best you relax and not get carried away. So I’m going to say goodbye for now. Take care....

Hey, when you're telling off these scumbags as they harass us in these threads as cult members, followers of Mussolini and whatnot, I'll take you seriously, okay pal?

What in blazes is that supposed to mean.

Yeah okay, because Trump hasn't said exactly what in dozens of speeches.

Yep, that first paragraph alone is full of lies and distortions. The “government is going to pay for it” was clearly in response to a question as to how he’d cover the indigent. (Hint: the government pays for it now and would under any current presidential candidate.) He praised Scottish healthcare while explaining that he had advocated that route in the past, but he believed in the free market approach for the US that was his official campaign position.

Trump’s brand is for making deals and fighting special interests, so of course he’s going to play that up him campaign as much as possible.

Gosh that article despite being ridiculous didn’t invoke the Godwin Law, it only called Trump Mussolini not Hitler. Aside from that it neglected to mention that he said in the first debate single payer would not work here.

I’ve noticed that. Everyone is stupid if they don’t agree with Trump. Trump is the Messiah. And everyone who quotes him showing him in his own words is dishonest.
**************************************************************************
Yes, to many here now, TRUMP (PRAISE HIM! PRAISE HIM!) is a messiah who will deliver us into a perfect world. We question that at our own risk since ANY questioning or bringing in of facts creates COGNITIVE DISSONANCE and a resulting ANGER within his worshippers.

I do not find his positions contradictory. They are only so if that is what you wish to see in them.

What you are suggesting is simply the matter of trust.

We know that most politicians have been shown to be untrustworthy. The media/washington cartel have far too much power to corrupt them.

Do I trust Ted Cruz? Yes, pretty much. Do I think he can be elected? There is a chance that he can be.

Do I trust Donald Trump? Not entirely, but he has shown an ability to fight and defeat the media/washington cartel far more than any other candidate.

And that is worth a great deal.

Donald Trump on trade, healthcare and more (CNN interview with Jake tapper)

Donald Trump Endorses Universal Healthcare, "The Government's Gonna Pay For It"

I'm a conservative on most issues but a liberal on health. It is an unacceptable but accurate fact that the number of uninsured Americans has risen to 42 million. Working out detailed plans will take time. But the goal should be clear: Our people are our greatest asset. We must take care of our own. We must have universal healthcare.

Our objective [should be] to make reforms for the moment and, longer term, to find an equivalent of the single-payer plan that is affordable, well-administered, and provides freedom of choice. Possible? The good news is, yes. There is already a system in place-the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program-that can act as a guide for all healthcare reform. It operates through a centralized agency that offers considerable range of choice. While this is a government program, it is also very much market-based. It allows 620 private insurance companies to compete for this market. Once a year participants can choose from plans which vary in benefits and costs.

And how does all that not mean, if not technically "Single Payer" something akin to greatly expanding Medicare and or Medicaid or emulating the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program and isn't that what the liberals have also clamored for? And won't you and I pay for it via increased taxation? No Trump says he will pay for it out of the "Yuge Savings" he'll get somewhere else. Big on promises but light on details.
