Trump Slams Evangelical Leader Vander Plaats on Twitter
Newsmax ^ | Sunday, 31 Jan 2016 | Greg Richter

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump unleashed a slew of Twitter attacks on Iowa evangelical leader Bob Vander Plaats Sunday morning, the second time he has done so in less than a week.

Trump says that Vander Plaats, head of the Iowa-based Family Leader, asked him to stay in his hotels for free and also requested he speak at an event while seeking $100,000 for himself.

He made the same statements on Tuesday in a similar Twitter storm. At that time, Vander Plaats said he and his family stayed for free in Trump's hotels because Trump insisted he do so in hopes of getting his endorsement. When Vander Plaats instead backed Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Trump attacked, Vander Plaats said.

As to Trump's claim that Vander Plaats sought $100,000 for himself, the Des Moines Register's chief political reporter Jennifer Jacobs contacted the group to whom Trump spoke.

The paper found that Trump was paid $100,000 to speak at Iowa's Land Investment Expo a year ago, directly contradicting Trump’s claim.

While the speech was Vander Plaats' idea, he was paid nothing, records showed.

There was no indication why Trump chose Sunday morning to reignite his Vander Plaats attacks, but caucusing is set for the Hawkeye State Monday night. Trump is in the lead in the latest polls, but Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is nipping at his heels.

Vander Plaats also replied to Trump on Sunday, saying his endorsement can't be bought.

Trump tried to buy Vander Plaats, but Vander Plaats couldn’t be bought so Trump is throwing a hissy fit.

Trump brags about buying off politicians and public officials. But when he finds one who is not corrupt, he tries to destroy him.

Donald Trump is as corrupt as the politicians he bribes. You can’t believe anything he says.

Think about that when you vote.

This has nothing to do with temperament. This has everything to do with manipulating media.

We would not even be discussing immigration at a high school level, the most important topic of this election, in a way that may avoid the destruction of the country permanently, were it not for Trump's ability to manipulate and control the media.

Think about that when you vote.

Cruz is more perfect, but Trump is more effective.

NO, Donald does NOT have the temperament to hold ANY public office, let along to serve as our President.

I thank Donald for showing his true colors one more time, just before the Iowa caucuses.

maybe Trump speaks truth as he knows it to be because he knows it’s more important than just trying to win a vote?

maybe he does have some Christ in him?
(though so many on fr want to not believe the possibility he does have a level of relationship with God.)

Just The Donald stayin classy. People onFR who support him would say his rude, vulgar, childish rants just show how strong a guy he is. I would disagree and say they show he is just a rude, vulgar, childish guy.

Vander Platt---only failure in elections kept him from being a career professional elected politician. He is CEO of a political action committee (lobbyist).Watch him for five minutes. Money grubbing phoney.

No preacher needs to stand between you and Jesus. Jesus doesn't require you give him money for him to love you unconditionally. When Platt and others start preaching for free, I might listen. He talks, looks, sounds and acts just like another money grubbing television preacher. I wouldn't believe anything he said.

Does he work for free as the head of these groups he is CEO of? He's in it for the money. Jim Bakker redux.

I don’t remember trump stating he’s conservative?

Is a conservative all that matters? when the man claiming to be conservative is showing himself NOT to be more and more each day?

wow...

WHY does Trump keep doing this kind of thing!

Back before I was a Trump supporter, I posited that one of the big worries I had about Trump was his tendency to turn vicious against those he feels have crossed him.

And that it would just be a matter of time before the religious right crossed him and he turned on them/us.

Every time I feel like I am firmly in the Trump camp, he pulls something like this that makes me question that decision.

Check this out I found these two statements.

Santorum responding to the allegation of buying Vander Platts endorsement for up to $1 million dollars:

Santorum -
"What he talked about was he needed money to promote the endorsement and that that would be important to do that," Santorum told CNN. "There was never a direct ask for me to go out and raise money for it."

Vander Plaats:

"In an interview with the Des Moines Register this week, Vander Plaats said that it was his "ethical responsibility" to essentially put some money where his mouth is.

"You can't say, 'We endorsed you. Now see you later,'" Vander Plaats told the Iowa newspaper. "That's not going to do a lot in the long run. "

- - - - -

Vander Plaats did deny it in this ABC article, but the allegations are out there. The denial does not square with the statement above that Vander Plaats gave to the Des Moines Register.

“A fake church? Why?”

Wow; you know everything don’t you?

You can’t offer any actual rebuttals with facts; so you resort to personal attacks.
Typical of the liberal Obama supporters who could tell NOTHING of why they supported Obama back in 2008; just that he wasn’t Bush.

“A great conservative is Vander Plaats. You Trump guys aught to take notice.”

Indeed, and he is also a great capitalist. Leveraging his relationship with God for cash and comfort. Hey, why not, God worked through Trump to give him nice hotel rooms, thereby proving that he has Gods favor....Prosperity Christian.

It also, apparently shows that Trump is humble before God, knowing that such a gifted Evangelical deserves to have God provide for him - through Trump.
