This was the moment when Ted Cruz lost the debate

No one looked particularly good. But Cruz is the only one who lost.

It might not be the exact moment that sinks Cruz's candidacy. Donald Trump appears to deserve the credit he's taking for that. But it was definitely the moment when the bitter animosity people feel toward Cruz — his fellow candidates, his fellow senators, and even, apparently, Fox News — broke out in the open.

At the heart of the attacks on Cruz is that behind his claims of conservative purity, he is, in fact, no better than the establishment candidates on the stage. He may not flip-flop as often as they do, but he's just as interested in doing what it takes to get ahead.

That attack, especially when applied to such a touchy issue as immigration, robs him of his key appeal to the conservative base. And it leaves his chief nemesis — Donald Trump — not only with an uncontested claim to immigration hard-liner cred, but as the only Republican candidate who actually speaks from the heart.

Do we believe DT knew that Cruz would get the brunt of the attack if he bowed out, or that he got lucky?

Vox is linked into Yahoo all the time. That’s where I see the articles. I don’t go looking especially for Vox but for various reasons, I look at Yahoo several times per day.

Must be some moment in some alternate reality. Cruz owned that debate and the GOP hates him more for it. They need a player at the top, not Cruz, the spoiler.

LOL — And Fox News did all it could to pump up RUBIO with minimal success IMHO.

We're seeing the situation the same way. As the front runner, it was up to Cruz to use his opening statement to take on a Presidential aura and insist that the level of discourse be elevated. Doing that cutesy thing with poking fun at Trump's tendency to vivid description of people made Cruz seem, well, not prepared to move on and discuss the issues.

I thought Santorum and Huckabee were winners. They gave very appropriate and commanding statements at Trump's event. They demonstrated that they were adults with a great set of priorities, and the audience responded real well.

I think Trump knew that Cruz would get the spotlight, and the good and bad that go with it. I mean, who didn't know that?

I think he suspected Cruz wouldn't hold up. I don't think he did, but that is a matter of opinion.

But I think it really had to do with slapping down Fox News.

But it is apparent what Rubio plans to do with the illegal immigrants already in this country, nothing at all. He says so.

So he has a stamina issue? He should ask Trump what his secret is.

Trump isn't high energy - he's just got the manners of a dry drunk - i.e. blind aggression is what Trump passes off for energy. In his low energy state, he can't answer questions - he throws a drunk tantrum and avoids them by accusing his questioner of bias.

I didn’t watch any of the debate either, and like you, I don’t know where Ted Cruz really stands on the issue of illegal aliens. I am convinced, however, he will not deport them on the scale that Donald Trump will. And that single issue alone is the reason Trump has my vote.

They haven’t seen “blind aggression” yet. That’s what you get when the people see first hand that they don’t get to select their candidate.

Yeh, you wish. Dream on. Don’t underestimate Cruz and the segment of grassroots America that support him who believe in the Constitution and our Judeo-Christian values. Keep pushing but don’t be surprised that we will push back in our own good time and choosing. Maybe only a little here and there, but we will not go silently in to the night.

American has become a circus. We don’t need another ringmaster. We need a patriot with the intelligence and leadership to execute the Constitutional laws of the land and who is able to navigate the political waters of government to reunite and restore us. Not a deal-maker that would compromise our values to win popularity and sustain his ego.

Cruz is not in show business, or real estate investment. He’s not out to make money. He’s in the business to represent and defend your values from the political elites and their special interests who have abused our form of government and it’s Constitution for money, special favors, and personal gain.

The opposition is getting nastier by the day. They would like to see him and his supporters in Hell. But if that happened, I as a Cruz supporter, would not be surprised to see old Ted debating the Devil and winning. And speaking of deals, the Devil is a master deal maker. He’ll cut you a deal if that’s what you want. If you don’t believe the Devil exists, look no further than Washington D.C. and note what his handiwork has done for our nation lately.

The TDS is strong with this one...

The Derangement Syndrome thing refers to speculation that Bush would take on emergency powers under the rubric of the War on Terror, become a dictator in all but name and start to rule like a king, becoming President-for-Life. It's transferred to Obama, with the idea that he won't step down when his term comes up. It's got nothing to do with making accurate observations about Trump the sleazy casino and diploma mill operator, whose principal response to difficult questions is to say that his questioners are being unfair to him.

Bah! Everybody knows that polls don’t mean a thing when they don’t say what we want them to say!

That seems to be the case.

I don’t support Rubio at all, and I won’t vote for him.

Trump definitely has my vote in the primary and in the general if he wins the nom. I will also vote for cruz in the general if he wins, but it does seem like he is being intentionally vague about illegal aliens in the country, and I don’t appreciate that.
