Cruz Takes Heavy Fire in Trump’s Wake at Crucial Final Debate Before Iowa Caucuses

In the absence of Donald Trump, the Republican debate moderators and GOP candidates found a new punching bag -- the frontrunner's closest competition in Iowa, Sen. Ted Cruz.

Thursday night's Fox News debate at the Iowa Events Center had some competition for ratings, after the field's frontrunner decided not to show. Trump instead held his own event less than three miles from the venue, raising money for veterans and ensuring sole access to the spotlight with just four days until Iowa voters head to the caucuses on Monday.

Wallace attempted to turn Cruz into a piñata at first but things settled down after the first round. It was a good debate.

It was a mistake for Cruz to attend this lynching!

Fox is part of the Hegelian Dialectic-—they are controlled by the same cabal who are in the process of Menticiding the Masses....and did you notice how “Rubio” was the “winner”. LOL

I repeat: As Ray Bradbury stated—all MSM is a “dog and pony” show to waste time and control and addict people-—keep them from truth and “entertain” them so they will remain ignorant and slaves..

You go to original source documentation-—not some biased source for real “News” that is dressed up in sex appeal and pseudo-intellectualism so that you can “feel” the “truth”. Your time is better spent reading a book by John Milton.....and looking at actually vote records in Congress or reading the Constitution.

This morning, I find myself wishing TC had made a visible signal of peace last night with DT, perhaps by withdrawing also. TC was doing better before engaging Trump directly.

TC's advisers are not equal to DT's.

Yup, Anything that keeps Cruz from being Trump’s VP is also keeping him from his only chance at ever being president...IMO. And we need him as president!

Had Cruz and Carson pulled out of the Fox Ambush and joined Trump, it would have sent a message to the DC Uni-Party that their rules no longer apply.

Cruz and Carson surrendered to the DC Uni-Party, aka The Cabal, last night.

..Fox tried the nuclear option with Cruz, and would have with Trump. The only damage was to Fox News IMO...

Ted should have pulled out too.

Proper title for this thing would have been The GOPempire Strikes Back.

I’m actually surprised that the GOPe played their hand with Cruz at this stage. A lot of us were thinking that were just using Cruz to take down trump, and then would unload on Cruz.

Well, we got the second part right, they HATE Cruz, and if Cruz thought getting Trump out of the way would clear his path to the nomination, he learned a BIG LESSON last night. I think a lot of Cruz/Trump supporters (people that are ready to vote for Cruz, but also like Trump) also learned the same last night.

One thing was apparent, which is that Trump is FAR BETTER at handling these types of attacks that Cruz...I’m not disparaging Cruz here, no candidate should be attacked as he was by moderators, but that is what happened there.

Of course Cruz took the arrows.
And based on what I am reading and the few clips I’ve seen,
Cruz did not hold up well.

That was nothing compared to “The Treatment” he would get in general. He showed he can’t stand up which is why he is “No Longer Surging Ted.”

“TC was doing better before engaging Trump directly.”

Indeed.

Cruz’s persistent second place in the race with a slightly downward trend has rattled him. Cruz should never have gone negative, particularly against Trump. Instead Cruz should have played to his strengths and made himself useful by attacking Hillary and Obama and espousing conservative positions. Cruz could even have subtly supported Trump.

As a consequence, still being a young man, could have positioned himself for the future, in the mean time participating at a high level in a Trump administration and becoming a wiser, more mature, and more powerful man. Instead, Cruz may be doing irreparable damage to the Cruz brand.

That is true, but practically every major and minor media outlet has this exact same take on the debate.

Yep not a good night for Teddy and just prior to the caucus. Trump should be sending flowers and candy to Meggie for deep sixing Cruz.

“I’m actually surprised that the GOPe played their hand with Cruz at this stage. A lot of us were thinking that were just using Cruz to take down trump, and then would unload on Cruz.”

Trump’s last minute withdrawal threw them into a tizzy. Reports were that up until nearly the last minute literally, FNC still wasn’t sure whether Trump would or would not actually show up.

They were all set to blow Trump up, but when he didn’t show, it was too late to back off of their attack scenario, and the simplest thing to do was slightly re-aim it at Cruz.

That pretty much is my thinking too. Problem for Cruz is, he really thinks he can outsmart Trump with oratory.
