LA Times ^

The call from Lincoln High School’s principal’s office came unexpectedly, as they often do.

Cedrick Argueta’s friends joked that he might be in trouble. Cedrick didn’t think so.

He was right.

It turned out that Cedrick, the son of a Salvadoran maintenance worker and a Filipina nurse, had scored perfectly on his Advanced Placement Calculus exam. Of the 302,531 students to take the notoriously mind-crushing test, he was one of only 12 to earn every single point.

Under common sense immigration laws, he and his family should be on the short list to become Americans.

As it is we, let in freeloaders, and guys like this just get lost and shoved out the door.

Muy bien Cedrick.

Just a question - I presume his parents are here legally - so they, and Cedrick, are American citizens. Why the continued division of Americans into hyphenated categories? Rhetorical question...

Lincoln High school is one of the worst schools in the worst school districts, Los Angeles Unified School District. However, this kid is highly motivated. Most of the kids in his school probably cannot pass Algebra I. This kid voluntarily enrolls in the hardest classes, works hard, and has good parents. Money does not have anything to do with it.

If you are going to do the math, then do it right...every time. Reality depends on it.

“I read it as one of 12.”

So did I. I guess for some reason, maybe his ethnicity or
something makes this a very rare case.

“the son of a Salvadoran maintenance worker and a Filipina nurse”

I get it, he’s a genetically modified student.
Funny, they did the same thing with rape seed. They
call it canola.

Good for him. He will go far in life. My wife and her brother both got perfect scores on their Math SATs. She went to Johns Hopkins, her brother the Naval Academy. She had a miserable childhood though with very strict parents. She still harbors some resentment despite her success in life. It’s good for me too as I only have to see my mother-in-law once or twice a year...

He apparently has curiosity and finds enjoyment in his studies. Plus, he’s really bright. His parents have raised him well.

I was going to take the test but I thought that test moderators were going to be biased, so I decided to have my own test and invite other test takers to join in.

You should have seen the moderators, they had blood coming out of ....

Not so. According to the story, his math teacher has a remarkable record because he treats math and his students like a sports team....many practices, “team” sweatshirts, etc. A stunning A.P. calculus performance from the whole class! Need more of THAT teacher.

Pay his teacher a bonus. Take the money out of the administrators salaries.
