Donald Trump: Thin-Skinned Tyrant
National Review ^ | January 28, 2016 | ANDREW C. MCCARTHY

Posted on 01/28/2016 6:00:20 AM PST by reaganaut1

Is Donald Trump the sharia of American politics? I'm having trouble finding much daylight between Islamic law's repressive blasphemy standards and the mogul's thin-skinned sense of privilege.

None of us wants to be insulted or smeared. But sharia forbids not only ridicule or slander against Islam; it bans any examination that casts Islam in an unflattering light. Worse, truth is not a defense: Even if one's questions are based on undeniable past actions or verbatim quotes from scripture, tough questioning is considered blasphemous. Retribution, moreover, is often completely out of proportion to the scale of the perceived "offense."

How is Trump different?

They say politics ain't beanbag: People in and around it eventually get slammed by opponents and other critics. But to Trump, the mildest criticisms are "vicious" attacks.

Let's take the exchange last summer with Megyn Kelly that prompted Trump to whine that he was unfairly treated and to heap abuse on Ms. Kelly in the aftermath. (Before I go on, note that I support Mr. Trump's rival Ted Cruz, and that I am on friendly terms with Megyn Kelly, on whose program I periodically appear.) Given the limited time, the slew of candidates to engage, and the grave problems faced by the country, could Kelly have made a better choice than to grill Trump on his derogatory remarks about women? As they say in the debate biz, that's debatable. But the questions she asked were hardly irrelevant..

Right it is cowardly to NOT challenge the slime tactics of the Junk media and “brave” to knuckle under to their demands!

Senator Cruz, if elected are YOU going to be in charge or is Fox News going to be dictate TO you then also?

A thinned skin billionaire who want to take his thin skin to the Whitehouse so he can implement his life-long love affair with crony capitalism, socialized medicine, Democrat fundraising, and attacking conservatives, while praising conservatism enemies.

“You just made two confirming it”

No, not really, but for the sake of argument are two opinions out of multiple millions confirmation for you? You must be a snake oil salesman’s dream.

I wish folks here would look at the bigger picture and see how most things trump seems to be offensive about or reacting too strongly about have deeper roots then just the instant or moment of what is happening.

Also take into account various people’s and parts of the country are more animated/have regional or familial quirks. Traveling through our states I’m often amused or temporarily offended by over animated gestures and comments that can appear fake or callus or over the top for what I perceive the situation to be, or slow action that seems like unconcern for the matter at hand that seems more urgent to me, etc etc.

I suggest, we stop focusing on any small detail and see how it relates to the facts and happenings around it and also the fuller picture. I dislike every candidate for numerous reasons i read of their past or present, until I stepped back and started viewing from the fuller picture of the person, our circumstances, options, assets they bring to the table, etc.

by many comments on fr we got some mighty thinned skinned folks here too.

Drawing wild, unwarranted conclusions to bolster the author’s preferred candidate’s chances.
Cheap and worthless analysis.

I really can't read past the first sentence, comparing Trump to sharia. Inexcusable.

I have a long list of issues with Trump, but not only is he not in any way comparable to Islamists, he is no more arrogant or petty than Obama or Clinton.

I spend a lot of time on FR these days pointing out the sycophant behavior of some Trump supporters, but this article is a sycophant attack against him.

There are plenty of things to criticize Trump on without jumping the shark, or pretending that his arrogance is the worst we've ever seen. Most open maybe, but not the worst.

Did you read my comment? It has no iota of support for or opposition to Donald Trump.

It decries the fact that the GOPe and NRO apparently have given up on persuasion and moved on into insulting coercion.

Much like your attempted shaming of me because I did not leap to the conclusion you prefer, instead noticing that I am being insulted by the article.

And yet the establishment and NRO (is that redundant?) resort exactly to the same tactic they decry.

Now what was it that is considered the most sincere form of flattery?

I am not especially a Trump supporter. I am most assuredly an anti-establishment conservative. When the establishment tries to browbeat me into submission, I tend to rebel. Those voices screaming loudest are the first ones filtered out. In this election, the establishment may have belatedly discovered they went too far in the past - and hysterics are all they have left to get the base back on their special corner of the plantation.

I agree, but I’d phrase it differently. Conservatism died on Jan 30, 1989 which was GHW Bush’s first day in office. God bless Ronald Reagan, but we are still paying for the fact the GOP elites saddled him with Bush as Veep. I fear a nominee Cruz would have to make the same sorts of deals to get GOP elite $$$ and backing. Trump’s unrivaled ability to bypass the media, or, in his case commandeer the media, to speak directly to the American people insulates him from that. Oh and a few billion dollars. That helps too.

To add to that, sadly McCarthy is not being objective on this topic as he already revealed his bias joining the other 21 big voices in NR.

He is missing the point by a mile and tries to wrap it up in this idiotic tyrant nonsense.

I think it was a brilliant move by Trump and did exactly what it needed to do - expose all the duplicity of FOX and how they are NOT for Americans in any way. All in the tank for their made up NWO quackery.

Megyn with Moore? Now that is just too rich for words. And yet, Trump haters somehow defend it. Talk about being inconsistent! Add in their praise for Beck’s show and I’d say the double talk is in high gear.

I wonder, will FOX dare to ask Cruz about amnesty or are they going to continue focusing on Trump when he’s not even there?

Mussolini was also a brash and obnoxious

And so was Churchill but he was the man needed at the time. I am not saying Trump is Churchill.

But our culture religion today is TOLORANCE and avoidance of confrontation. I am just saying to all of us, note where our attitude toward brashness comes from. Our founding fathers were brash and I am glad they were....................
