Byron York: Trump debate dodge fuels doubts, boosts Cruz

BLOOMFIELD, Iowa - James and Brooks Schooley are raising a young family in this tiny Iowa community. They support Ted Cruz and brought their kids to an old church near the Bloomfield town square to hear the candidate, along with Iowa Rep. Steve King and former Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

The Schooleys like Cruz's faith and his fealty to the Constitution. But their choice is also shaped by their wariness of the Republican front-runner, Donald Trump.

"He's not principled," James Schooley told me, referring to Trump. "He just goes by emotion."

"I feel like he doesn't stick to the Constitution the way Ted Cruz would," added Brooks. "Once you go away from that, then where's your standard? I mean, you can do anything."...

Too early to know, those in article were already Cruz supporters.

You missed it by about 9 seconds.

Nope, primary votes are getting to see what a Trump presidency would look like...unstable and embarrassing.

Byron York is an idiot.

Your level of political discourse is just as precise, insightful and mature as your hero's - that is to say, on par with a 5 year old throwing a temper tantrum.

Right. “Boosts Cruz.” York slides back into his comfortable Trump bashing mode.

This hurts Trump in no way. None.

It COULD have benefitted Cruz is he had walked out as well. “You know, Don has said a lot of bad things about me, but right is right. This is a set up, this panel is horribly biased, and I won’t put up with it either.”

His numbers would have risen. Not skyrocketed-—nothing will do that, but he would have looked very principled. Too late.

If Fix News was planning an ambush type debate, and that resulted in one of the candidates, i.e. the target of the ambush, declining to show, then it’s their own problem that they blew up their own debate.

It’s not Fix’s job to attempt to manipulate a race.

If you can’t do a proper debate, then don’t do debates.

Have you ever noticed that Donald Trump has an affinity for bashing and maligning conservatives?

1) Your little snipe is slimy.

2) This is EXACTLY what Rush Limbaugh proposed A CANDIDATE (not “all” as some claimed) should have done to the media a long time ago.

3) This is exactly what Ronald Reagan did in response to a biased DMR debate before the primary in 1980.

So, yeah, it’s pretty brilliant, and your little snark is pretty tacky.

Have you ever noticed that so-called “conservatives” just don’t seem to do “conservative” things much?

Where is Cruz walking out? Why does it take TRUMP to lead the way all the time? Leaders lead. Followers follow.

Why is it that all the RINOS hate Trump, that all the RINO bloggers on Twitter are urging people to join Cruz to stop Trump? Hmmm? They sure don’t “hate” Cruz there.

This entire charade seems pretty clear to me. Cruz embarrassed Trump in the last debate when Trump thought he had Cruz on the “natural born” topic. It is obvious Trump does not want to take the chance he might be embarrassed again this close to the Iowa caucuses, so he has used Megen Kelly as an excuse to bail out of the debate.
