After Trump Drops Out of Debate, Cruz Challenges Him to a ‘Mano a Mano‘

As news spread of Donald Trump's intention to boycott the Republican debate this Thursday, Ted Cruz's national press secretary tweeted out that the Texas senator wished to challenge the GOP frontrunner to a "mano a mano."

Cruz made the remarks to Mark Levin on his radio show Tuesday night. "If Donald is afraid of Megyn Kelly," Cruz said, "I would like to invite him... to participate in a one-on-one debate, between me and Donald, mano a mano."

Cruz made the remarks to Mark Levin on his radio show Tuesday night. "If Donald is afraid of Megyn Kelly," Cruz said, "I would like to invite him... to participate in a one-on-one debate, between me and Donald, mano a mano."

Cruz floated Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh as possible moderators -- but he also said he'd be willing to take him on with no moderator at all, should Trump prove to be afraid of all those people too.

He pondered how Trump could be commander-in-chief if he was "terrified of a TV host."

Maybe this how they will weld together, in public.

Could be good. Very good.

[This move doesn’t make Trump look presidential]

Yes it does. It shows he’s not going to be treated like a chump by Fox.

Do some research on how Reagan walked away from negotiations with Gorbachev in Reykjavik.

There’s a lot about the Donald that makes my skin crawl including cheating on Ivana, writing in 2007 that he’s had sex with married women, ever supporting partial-birth abortion as a thinking adult...

It is very disappointing that there are so many Trumpsters on this site. The trolls have taken over. He is a Democrat! He is James Taggart.

He is afraid of Fox News and Megan Kelly? Sounds a lot like BO and Hillary!

If this doesn’t convince people that Trump would be a disaster as a POTUS, what will? Hypnotism? Free drugs?

Trump’s playing chess, again.
Six days from the first votes, and he will absolutely dominate the news cycles all the way till Tuesday.
And as the absolute leader in the polls, there’s no upside to another debate. A lot of folks just can’t seem to grasp that the game has changed.

I agree with all this but it is something bigger going on. This whole maneuver is a run-up to a Yuuuuge Weekend Surprise.

I predict Trump wins Iowa with a double-digit margin of victory over the other guy.

Dont use Cruz, imagine obama doing this. It does remind one of when obama wouldnt answer questions from the ny post reporter during a campaign flight

Maybe we can get it worked out. For Donald only, he gets to submit the questions he is to be asked.

Other candidates deal whatever whatever is asked.

Work for you?

I voted on Trump’s poll for him to bow out, because it’s the most self-destructive political move since Ross Perot dropped out and re-entered in 1992. Cruz has Iowa wrapped up now and can make a real play for New Hampshire.

RNC rules don’t mean shit. Cruz would crush Trump in a one-on-one debate, even if Trump picked the moderator.

"Do some research on how Reagan "

Bigger.

This is like when Reagan fired the Air Traffic Controllers.

Cruz sure was out of his depth at the last debate when Trump smacked him down. He ended up looking like a childish buffoon, clapping for the guy who was beating him senseless.

And Rubio kicked his butt in a debate too. Maybe he can challenge Kasich to a debate. Kasich always looks like he rolled out of bed after a night of meth and Everclear, so Cruz might stand somewhat of a shot of besting him in a debate.

Please tell me you’re not comparing a Cold War summit to a TV debate sideshow!
