A Conservative Case for Donald Trump
Breitbart.com ^ | 25 Jan 2016 | Joel B. Pollak

Is billionaire and Republican frontrunner Donald J. Trump a conservative, or not?

Fox News’ Jesse Watters has made the best possible case that he is.

“Come on, let’s talk about his conservative principles on the three core issues Donald Trump is about; immigration, national security and jobs. He is the most conservative guy out there and he is setting the agenda,” Watters said on Friday, responding to National Review‘s anti-Trump manifesto. He could have added a few others, like guns.

But that’s not quite convincing enough for many conservatives. Trump’s vehemence about his views should not, and does not, obscure the fact that they are, for the most part, very new.

This is a man, after all, who criticized 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney for using the term “self-deportation” because it was “mean-spirited.” That was, for those keeping track, one election ago.

Now Trump wants all Muslims barred. (Ahem.)

True, Trump has been willing to sacrifice his own brand for the sake of his newly conservative posture–a sign that he is serious.

But let us stipulate, for argument’s sake, that Trump has a “mixed record on conservatism,” as my colleague Ben Shapiro put it rather diplomatically.

There are many conservatives who still support him wholeheartedly, and there is a real conservative case for Trump. And I say this as an observer who has been skeptical of Trump from the start.

The Buckley rule. William F. Buckley, Jr., whom Trump cites to defend “New York values,” urged conservatives to support the most conservative candidate who can win.

Sorry Cruzers, but I just don't think Ted can win and that's a violation of the Buckley Rule. I do believe that Ted is Trump's best choice for VP and wish he had pulled many of his recent punches on Cruz. Even if Ted isn't his VP, Trump's gonna need a lot of help in the senate.

There is no conservative case for Donald Trump unless we are stuck with him after the primaries.

He appears to have neutralized the Clinton Machine.

For 25 years no Conservatives have been able to pull THAT off.

But not to worry, Cruz will almost certainly kick his butt in Iowa...and here’s why:

I know Trump is conservative... he wants to conserve. Plus, he wants to avoid risk.

Any Constitutional Conservative knows this.

His answer to that question was ala Mitt Romney.

Trump is something, just not conservative.

I know Trump is not as conservative as I am, or many other FReepers.
The people who have been calling themselves conservative have spent years importing the workers for the jobs that can’t be exported and I have had enough of that.
If the only thing Trump does is build the wall and stop the illegal alien inundation, that will be enough for me.

That nonsense is like Donald the adulterer hosting marriage and fidelity conferences. Nothing about the man is consistent OR conservative. A windsock has more consistency than Donald Trump.

Trump, in 2013, endorsed communist Bill De Blasio for New York City mayor. He supports Obama's opening up to communist Cuba. He loves KGB Putin. He, in his mid-50s, supported gays in the military AND partial birth abortion.

DONALD TRUMP [on Larry King Show (2009), referring to the then newly elected communist president]: "Well, I really like him. I think that he's working very hard. He's trying to rebuild our reputation throughout the world. I mean, we really have lost a lot of reputation in the world. The previous administration [GW Bush] was a total disaster, a total catastrophe."

And I'm not saying I agree with everything he's doing. I do agree with what they're doing with the banks. Whether they FUND THEM or NATIONALIZE them, it doesn't matter, but you have to keep the banks going."

That’s ok and there’s much truth in your post.

But many want to ignore or just plain fight against many of the truths about Trump that should be of some concern to them. There’s little to no debate/discussion, just a lot of poo flinging.

One of my problems with Trump is that he supports an “assault weapons” ban...

Many friends ds and family members of mine spread across Iowa think Trump is mean and a bully.
These people go to caucuses. They don’t just answer opinion polls.
I don’t think Trump will win Iowa honestly. It isn’t the end of the world and I could be wrong. Trump needs to tone downtown the rhetoric against republicans and turn up the make America great again.

Trump neutralized the Clinton machine at the very moment Cruz was declaring BJ Clinton off limits. You Cruz, you lose.

Check out the latest poll, which, given their overly ambitious turnout model and Ted Cruz’s ground organization, means Ted Cruz probably has a significant lead in Iowa!
