Mark Steyn, Raconteur, Columnist, Freedom Fighter, and Cultural Critic Needs Our Help
01.25.16 | Chickensoup

Posted on 01/25/2016 4:44:10 PM PST by Chickensoup

I have followed Mark Steyn for years. I have read his columns, followed his career, bought and read his books and now his recordings.

Steyn has over the years, fought time and time again for freedom of speech, and freedom of thought. I respect him. I find him a highly ethical man in this world of dubious ethics.

I watched him in the legal battles at McLean's magazine.

I read his forward to Geert Wilders Book "Marked for Death" where he said that Wilders could not find anyone who would be associated with the book and would Mark mind writing something. Mark wrote the introduction, saying, this man is putting his life on the line everyday, how could I not?

That is a level of integrity one finds only a few times in a lifetime.

Steyn has written books about Islam and its force around the world, these books have been prescient in their predictions and far ranging in their information. These books have earned him a life that requires courage to live, and continue on. Islamics are known to be full of payback to truth tellers.

I have followed his career at National Review and its ending, again because of first amendment issues, related to Michael Mann and the climate totalitarians.

Steyn is currently being sued by climate leftists for telling the truth about lies the scientist Michael Mann has promulgated.

Steyn is fighting essentially a one-man battle against a better funded (think Al Gore and every other leftist environmentalist dweeb you have known contributing to Mann) group.

Recenly in two columns, one last month and one this month, Steyn has alluded to the fact that the battle against the better funded Mann, is hurting financially. He slipped these statements in at the end of two of his columns. Today he said if for the second time.

Steyn is full of integrity, and I suspect that things are difficult for him, and that he needs as much financial support as can be provided. I do not doubt his need.

I support him and believe that it is my duty to support fellow conservatives who are fighting the good fight, whether it is decorating wedding cakes in good conscience, facing up to Islam like Pam Geller, or fighting environmental totalitarian lies.

I have committed to buying a book or cd each month to help the cause of Steyn. I will also send him some cash.

Men like Steyn are rare birds and need our support.

I hope I can get some amens here, Freepers.

The McLeans suid is over. I am unsure of the venue of the Mann suit but I think it is in the US, in filthy leftist DC.

Lord Monckton beat the lying bass turds. With a little help, Mark will too. But these villainous bastards will not stop their lies flowing, regardless. Perhaps the saddest aspect of all the hoopla in AGW oligarchy seeking to control the world by faux crisis is that the real pollutions are being quietly ignored while the oceans are polluted and our ground waters poisoned and out soils contaminated. For that the oligarchy needs killin’

It’s always exciting whenever Steyn appears on a talk show. You know you’re about to be entertained and informed. Let’s hope he asks for the help in funding if he needs it.

Steyn is being sued by Mann in Washington, D.C. Three years into this ordeal he’s sounding pretty bitter.

This ominous statement appears toward the end of his latest column:

The doom prediction isn't correct, by the way: National Review would survive losing the Mann suit. But I wouldn't. I'd be over, in every sense.

He is asking, just by saying it is hard.

He is enough of a Brit/Can to be self effacing when it comes to what is needed, I suspect.

Class is like that.

Interesting.

But Trump didn’t like National Review coming at him. So over the weekend he Tweeted an approving link to a two-year-old column arguing that National Review is doomed. Unfortunately for me, its thesis is that National Review is doomed because of the Michael E Mann lawsuit. So, when it comes to global-warming fanatics vs free speech, Trump is apparently cheering for the global-warming fanatics.

More to the point, the column’s argument is that National Review is doomed because of my supposedly defamatory remarks about Mann. The doom prediction isn’t correct, by the way: National Review would survive losing the Mann suit. But I wouldn’t. I’d be over, in every sense. Yet, in Mann vs Steyn, Trump is apparently cheering for Mann.

Which meant that over the weekend I got assailed by various Trump fans who’d carelessly skimmed the piece and erroneously concluded that Steyn “is an editor of National Review”. So I have the fairly unusual distinction of being denounced as both a “Trump sycophant” and an anti-Trump National Review editor. When it comes to Steyn the Trump sycophant vs Steyn the anti-Trump editor, no one is cheering for Steyn.

"It's always exciting whenever Steyn appears on a talk show."

Personalities like Mark Steyn come along once in a lifetime.

He's in the tradition of Oscar Wilde, Groucho Marx, H.L. Mencken, Dorothy Parker, Christopher Hitchens, et. al.

and maybe Emo Philips.

I just ordered a couple books from his online store.

I enjoy reading everything he writes. He has a great wit and better sense of humor.

Thanks, Chickensoup

can we keep this thread bumped along? I think it is important financially for Steyn, and as a morale builder too. I think Steyn freeps, although I am not sure.

God bless you all.

Thanks, I’ve been intending to for along time, just happen to have wallet and card right now, so I ordered. The judge who allowed this farce to go forward should be locked up.

If you haven't yet read Steyn's takedown of global warmist Michael Mann and his infamous hockey stick, do yourself (and Mark) a favor, and buy "A Disgrace to the Profession":

It is beautifully written and consistently interesting.
