D'oh! Cruz Campaign Concedes He Had Insurance Coverage All Along

Update:

In a reversal from claims made on the campaign trail, Ted Cruz's presidential campaign is now saying the senator and his family do have health insurance and never lost coverage. The late night Friday revelation came more than 24 hours after Cruz had told a New Hampshire audience that he and his family were without health insurance and were scrambling to obtain new coverage--and used the claim to slam Obamacare for the mess he was in.

In statements to Bloomberg and Wall Street Journal, campaign spokeswoman Catherine Frazier blamed Cruz's false assertion that his family had lost their health insurance on a misunderstanding. She said an insurance broker told Cruz that BlueCross BlueShield of Texas was dropping his PPO plan, but Frazier said that the broker did not tell Cruz his family was automatically being transferred to the carrier's HMO plan.

In computer programming, there is the concept of "graceful failure": a popup screen, a coherent warning message.

So too with politicians. If actually nailed by a "gotcha" (or even an unforced error, though under pressure), we expect them to come up with a believable spin, or at least not wet their pants in public.

It's the nonverbals, the tone of the response, which people judge. Trump blusters, and yes, that lacks substance, and can look...easily inflamed, which is not so good with a military commander-in-chief with his finger on the nuclear button, BUT...he is not cowering or easily intimidated into throwing America's interests overboard because he personally feels threatened.

After the GOPe, and 8 years of a Commie Muslim cryptofaggot who hates America, and who has openly subverted several major American institutions, this is a welcome thing.

I don’t know. He strikes me as someone driven by ego and power. I think now he is staying in to split away voters to try to prevent Trump from getting a mandate. JMO

Cruz back when he was running for senate and attending many grassroots events often in Houston, declined to sign our petitions to get a ballot measure to overturn sanctuary city. He was asked again via his staff about this from other activists helping to get signatures, to no avail. At the time we needed 20K signers and looking back knowing the forces we were up against it probably would have come to naught-i.e. protracted litigation.

Very interesting, Thanks. I’m not shocked at all Cruz did not “lead the fight” to stop sanctuary cities because as far as I can tell he was a careerist mainline GOPe conservative pre 2010 TEA revolution.

Sadly, I’ve come to see Cruz as the biggest “campaign conservative” of them all due to his running against the “Washington Cartel” while being a member of it.

the last few comments seemed liked desperation.

the NY one. the no health insurance one.

both are beneath him.

plus where is he going to get 20 percent in a month? not that that’s a reason to change votes, but this thing’s over, i think.

i have not seen such vehement support for a republican (Trump) since Reagan’s second term.

for better or worse, he’s unstoppable at this point

so, Cruz premiums would not have jumped 50% if he had been comparing his PPO to the new HMO they dumped him into. However, further down in the article, comparing his old PPO plan to the new one he is joining, his premiums jumped 50%.

apples to apples.

How ironic that Cruz complains about Obamacare. His recruiting of his long time friendJohn Roberts is the reason we have Obamacare!

The Right Stuff
John Roberts should be a quick confirm.

This Cruz comment is just an odd petty lie .
This supposed brilliant Harvard educated DC power couple with Kids did not know if they health insurance.
Isn't Heidi a brilliant Goldman Sachs financial advisor who handles Millionaires portfolios but can not keep up with her kids insurance coverage? I would move my account if that is the case ! Ted is supposedly the genius Harvard lawyer !
The two of them don't keep up with there health insurance coverage and have two kids ?
And Ted wants us to trust him with the executive branch when he is confused about his families health insurance !

Why does this guy tell so many lies that can be thrown back in his face ?

Completely agree with your sentiments!

I’m more of a Trump supporter at this time, but as I mentioned, I would happily vote for Ted Cruz should he win the primary. This insurance disclosure, and other things with Cruz are NOT deal breakers for me. Ditto Trump!

As you said:

“After the GOPe, and 8 years of a Commie Muslim cryptofaggot who hates America, and who has openly subverted several major American institutions, this is a welcome thing.”

Hillary or Sanders are NOT options!

Is every politician a devout liar? Even Trump, Carson and FeaRINO seem truth challenged. Once again who is the least bad gets my vote. I like Cruz, but dammit if he’s not as squeaky clean as he pretends. And yet, the Teflon Don is Teflon for a reason. Nothing stuck to Reagan either and for a good reason, it was wrong.

How interesting. Ted had no problem signing Grover Norquist’s ‘pledge’, which is nothing more than an oath to all things Norquist...open borders, amnesty, more Muslim/3rd world immigration. If you oppose it, a candidate finds himself with Norquist & crew taking them out.
Trump has not signed it, and hopefully he will not.

He didn't know if his own family had insurance coverage? That's really a responsible family man right there. Right.

...he argued with wife about it so that means neither understood that they still had health insurance?

And it never occurred to either of them to just call their fricken insurance guy and ask him? Yikes.

The Cruz family was getting insurance through Goldman. It came up during the Obamacare debate a couple years ago. They might not have been dealing with brokers for a while. There is no timeline here so it’s hard to tell what is going on.

As Cruz wrote Judge Roberts is brilliant. A summa cum laude Harvard graduate

The members of this smarmy smart-alec "it's a tax" club may be clever, but they aren't wise. Their summas and magnas can decorate the rail on which they ride out of town when they are tarred and feathered.

So according to the article, it is true that his insurance company, Bluecross, cancelled his insurance coverage, and it is true that a replacement policy from another company with the same coverage as he had last year is going to cost him 50% more, but in the interim Bluecross has unilaterally switched him over to their HMO.

My insurance company did the same thing this year. Have you ever been switched to an HMO?

Congratulations you have insurance! Too bad no doctor or hospital that you use is on the list of HMO providers. Here is a list of doctors that you can use. Good luck making an appointment to see any of them since none are accepting new patients until July. But you are free to continue to use your current doctors, we just won’t reimburse you for any of the cost.
