Hi Pat,

Hope you have heat and food and can open your doors enough to let the doggies out now and then (apparently some people had their doors buried in snow, too).

Re daughter: My optimistic side says that was nice and very thoughtful of her.
While I’m not normally pessimistic or cynical and I probably shouldn’t say this, based on what you’ve told about her - wondering if she was trying to hurt herself and blame you. There are a lot of stories about back injuries and heart attacks, etc. due to people shoveling snow.
I hope it’s the former and not the later.

I know you know not to respond to her texts, IMs and calls.

Re church: God would not want you injured trying to get to Mass - I’m obviously not a priest, but IMHO you have a pass today and have not committed any sins. If it makes you feel better, say a couple of Hail Mary’s, Our Father’s, Glory Be’s!

Yes, I remember putting cloths on statutes prior to Easter, think at least some churches still do this. Definitely the crucifix after a certain date. As well as no music, then a huge full-throated choir for Easter :-)

Enjoy Kaitlin tonight!!

Best,
SC

Did you hear what that overrated actor Leo DiCraprio told us before he jetted to Switzerland to meet other hypocrites at Devos, Switzerland? He told us to save energy because our energy use is contributing to global warming. I guess he doesn’t know his PRIVATE JET uses more energy than I do in a week...

Well since you mention that bit about fossils making oil I will share my experience as a nature kind of guy.

All my life I’ve had a compost pile. We begin with leaves blown into a big pile at autumn’s end. Then all year we put potato peels, vegetable cuttings, egg shells....that kind of thing....and toss. By spring if tossed all year, the leaves and scraps will have turned into an aromatic dirt. This is not anything most backyard gardeners don’t already know.

After a few years of working the compost pile, I began to notice that all around the bottom of the pile, where the dirt has formed, an oily like substance began to fill the concrete pad I used to toss my pile.

It wasn’t oil, exactly, but my curious self could see that it was an oily liquid, this after a few years at the bottom of my rather smallish pile of decaying material.

Damn, there were times when one of thoe plastic bags that they use for groceries somehow got in my pile and after a few months even THAT would turn into that oil at the bottom of the pile.

Way I figure, oil is formed by many thousands, even millions, of years of the decaying earth breaking down as done of a miniscule scale as in my compost pile, the oil forms and seeps down into the earth to become pockets of....well....oil.

This ain’t rocket science but hey, I speculate and ruminate.

Yeah, all my life I heard about dead dinosaurs becoming the oil we use today but that ain’t no more true than Hillary’s going to be indicted.

I’m jus’ sayin’.

Hi RG!

I’m doing well, thanks! Hope you and yours are, too.

We’ve just had rain on and off - temps in mid to high 40’s, so not too bad - fairly normal for this time of year in the PNW. At least I don’t have to shovel rain ;-)

Ah SC....thanks so much for such a nice, thoughtful response.

As for daughter....like you I’d like to think she was worried about me and in a fashion, I think she was. But she could, just throwing it out there, drop the damn PFA and let us heal.

Except she has not yet healed for it is summer that she yearns for the hospital so much that she fakes illness, lost custody of her daughter....it’s sad but as I learned in that class I took for relatives of mentally ill people, she has to admit her addiction, be at rock-bottom, before she can start to heal.

As for church....heh....you remember that silent thing for those three days? I do remember the cloths over the statues but the no musical instrument thing is new to me. But I’m fine with adhering to tradition for Gods sake but some choir people quit the church because of it. Father Tom even came to choir practice last Thursday to explain why he was doing all this, God bless him, he’s really a great Pastor but at times the old folks down this way, they don’t like change.

Am looking forward to Kaitlyn visit. Kaitlyn now lives with her father up in Baltimore. God bless he did bring her down here yesterday to stay with her mother, right at the beginning of the storm. He’s struggling to raise Kaitlyn and when I tak to him he always sounds tired. I try to help him as best I can, buying Kaitlyn bras and such.

Anyway, thanks for assurances that I won’t go to hell for no church today. I love going to my church weekly and it’s not something I really want to do.

But common sense takes over.

Hi Onyx,

Hope all is well with you! I’ve been meaning to tell you that I really enjoyed your posts (and the other FReeper that you stayed with - can’t think of her name right now) from the Trump at Miss rally. Sounds like you had a super time and it was so cool that you got to shake The Donald’s hand.

I was reading the Cruz-Beck rally thread earlier this a.m. and had to get off. That one person - Hoosier something or other IIRC was so darn rude! Someone took up for you and I left the thread. The bashing was ridiculous and totally uncalled for!

Why Cruz would have Beck with him is beyond me, I guess a few people still listen to his program and read his posts.

Hope you have a better day on FR today - you know you’re with FRiends here! :-)

BTW - I let Nikos (who starts most of the Trump rally threads know yesterday that CSPAN will be showing a Trump rally today. Can’t wait to watch as I’ve had problems trying to watch the ones on You Tube - they keep buffering and it’s really frustrating!

Here’s info on that thread:
LIVE THREAD: Trump Rally Sunday, Jan 24 1:00pm EST on C-SPAN Muscatine High School, Muscatine, IA

Here we go again. Donald Trump will speak Sunday, January 24, 2016 in Muscatine, IA at Muscatine High School at 12:00 PM CST. I will post additional Live Feeds. Mr. Trump will be attending church services this morning at New Hope Christian Church in Marshall Town, IA. I think it would be over the top for the media to be filming this. Mr. Trump will do TV shows via phone today as well: CBS’ “Face the Nation”: Trump will call into the show to gauge his chances in the Iowa caucus, with Sanders speaking afterwards

Best,
SC

I don't think any scientist has ever said oil comes from dead dinosaurs. THAT came from the press back in the 1930's, and then the Sinclair Oil Company used it as their logo.

It is pretty much as you say--a matter of decay--of organic matter being consumed by anaerobic bacteria.

In fact, some scientist say that the amount of anaerobic bacteria in the Earth is staggering--that the total weight of them is greater than ALL the organisms--us included--on the land and in the ocean.

Some scientists have looked further into this and many believe that this ancient organic matter can be changed into oil--and is still ongoing--by this anaerobic bacteria even today!

Thank you onyx, it caused quite a stir. You could tell who all the scientists were and they got pretty upset. Point is you cannot trust science anymore than you can trust politicians so why believe any of it?

Evolution is a farce and the entire science world is built on top of it. Your F story is very typical. The same thing happened to me when I challenged Marxism in college.

I saw a thread on FR and they mentioned on FNC this a.m. that Bloomie might run as an Independent. IIRC the thread said he’d make a decision by next March.

I have Meet the Depressed on in the background and not really listening to Hillary! but she just cackled about something - ugh!

That’s not true, AB.

As a child I was taught that oil came from the remains of the dinosaurs.

Sounds like you understand what I’m saying with that compost pile but why do you think they call it “fossil fuels”? It’s not from the fossils of dead animals, it’s from that breakdown you and I understand as the gardeners we are.

I’m jus’ sayin’.

You beat me to it, and far more eloquently. Your CO2 numbers need correction, though. Total atmospheric CO2 is now about 0.04%, and humans have added a little over 0.01 of that.

No problem, it is probably the farthest out into the 4th dimension I have gone. You are right, how do we know how God did anything?

What if we spent as much time exploring God’s miracles rather than proving he does not exist to promote their Godless Marxism. Imagine how much farther we would be?

How many onyx’s received F’s for disagreeing with their theory and how many talented people were not allowed into science for that crime.
